My family has been bringing our pets to River Oak for 20+ years. Dr. Shaner and staff went out of their way to save our dog, Pearl, when she was hit by a car as a pup. They performed extensive surgeries including grafting of skin to save her life. She has passed but her portrait is beautifully displayed in their office as is our cat, Moo. Since than we have had the our pets in the care of Dr. Chatfield, and Dr. Drew. Dr. Chatfield went above and beyond when my puppy Cody had ear issues. With her care, knowledge and guidance, he was able to overcome and did not require surgery. Most recently they went out of their way to get my Bailey in to confirm if she may have a problematic pregnancy in an emergency. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful we are that we have River Oak Veterinary to care for our loved ones in the most dire times. Despite the changes in vet staffing, the level of care has never faltered and I whole heartedly will continue to recommend and celebrate the entire staff of River Oak.

We had a very bad experience with a veterinarian in Pleasanton a few years ago so we decided to go to river oak because of their great reputation. We drive 2 hours every time to river oak because they do an outstanding job. Thank you so much!!

My cat is really sick. They couldn’t get him in until the next day. I waited. I was told on the phone my app was at 930am. Since it sounds like an upper respiratory infection they told me to go around back and call once I get there. I show up at 929am and call them. They said actually your appointment was at 920am and we can’t see you. I said are you serious?! It sounded like she said 930 on the phone. He said no our app is every 20 minutes. Like I’m supposed to know that! I said he’s really sick and needs to be seen. They didn’t care. Just said I can make another app. Even if my appointment was 920 they could have seen him! It was 9 minutes! I know most places have a 10 minute grace period. I loved this place and went for years when Dr. Hellman was there. But never again. They have lost my business. Heck when Dr. Hellman was there he would have gotten my cat in same day! This place is not what it used to be! It was the male who answered today.

Loved River Oaks for years. Our Capone received the best care, the staff was great and we felt like family. After several years, we adopted another dog. Her initial exam was hurried and I felt, less then thorough. Now appointments are 2 to 3 weeks out and the male that answered my call was rude. If the old staff is still there, thank you for the excellent care with our boy Capone, but we will be going elsewhere for Molly.

My little angel, my kitty Scout, became extremely ill. I took her to an emergency vet, where the experience was unpleasant. I went to River Oak Veternarosm the next day. Dr. Chatfield explained that her kidneys were failing with such kindness and in terms I could understand. She answered all my questions and kept me updated on Scout's progress. DR. Chatfield explained that Scout had kidney disease and there was nothing that could’ve been done to prevent it, and now her body is shutting down, in a caring nature, and made a difficult time bearable. My son and I decided to bring Scout home tonight, and sadly, she passed away tonight. I want to thank Dr. Chatfielf and Karen and the River Oak Veterinarian staff.

Dr Chatfield is amazing with my pup who is always nervous. She handles her with gentleness and care. I took my pup to 3 different Vets one of them was neurologist in Sacramento before seeing Dr. Chatfield. My pup is 14 years with recent sizures. In first 10 minutes with Dr Chatfield she went over details of everything those 3 diffrent vets told me. I am appreciative of her knowledge and expertise and most important how she really cares about my two dogs. Thank you and God bless.
