Drivers are great in comunicating and service. Beware of random “service charges” with no documentation or in person contact as well as “minimum use” fees if you do not use enough gas.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was treated very poorly by their customer service person in the office. JS West is much better.

I wouldn’t recommend them. They are very expensive. They left the valve turned off after a fill up . Cost me 400. For a heater repair to tell me what the problem was. They wouldn’t acknowledge or reimburse the expense.

Charges extra fees. When asking about those fees they change it up. They don't check the tank like the contract says and if you run out they charge extra. Prices are much higher than other businesses.

Notes / Timeline RE: Van Unen Propane – Ripon CALast update 10-18-23Wednesday 10-18-23: Sarita called me at work (first time I was the recipient of a call from Van Unen) and informed me my check was mailed from Chicago on 10-12-23. Haven’t I heard this before wasn’t per Lada, Rosa, and Jerry already mailed on 09-29-23? (see below)Friday 09-08-23: Change service companies - Kludt tank setup.Monday 09-11-23: Called Van Unen terminated service.Wednesday 09-13-23: Received Van Unen Tank retrieval InvoiceThursday 09-28-23: called spoke to Lada, was told my paperwork had been sent to Chicago and it would take 6-8 weeks to get my refund. I complained and stated that was unacceptable. Lada said she would look into it and get back with me later that day or the next.Friday 09-29-23: Lada did not call back by 4:00PM the following day, I called and was told (by Rosie or Rosa) the account was noted that Chicago had been contacted and the check was being mailed today the 29th. During this call I asked to speak with a manager and was told he likes to leave early on FridayThursday 10-05-23: I contacted Van Unen and was again assured the “checks in the mail” that Chicago had expedited it and it was on its way.Filed complaint with Better Business Bureau – BBB has forwarded my complaint V.U. they have 10 days to respond to BBB.Tuesday 10-17-23: PUC has no jurisdiction over Van Unen referred me to Western Propane Gas Association.Monday 10-16-23: CFPB Responded Van Unen not in their system referred me to Legal Services CorporationTuesday 10-10-23: Again in a phone call, Lada assured me the check was coming it must just be held up coming across the country.Thursday 10-12-23: I again called Lada and explained that per the USPS web site it should have taken no more than 5 business days for a first-class letter to come from Chicago to my house in Valley Springs. Again, I asked to speak to the manager, this time he was not in at the moment, but she would leave him a message.Later in the morning Jerry Behlen, general manager for Van Unen propane returned my call. Jerry stated how sorry he was about the check registry problem he was having at his office. That he had a bunch of vendors to pay and a lot of upset people. There was no mention of Chicago. I asked what was the story about Chicago; I thought my check was coming from Chicago? That must have been some mix up in the office, but he was going to work hard to get the registry fixed by the end of the week to get the checks out.Friday 10-13-23: I mailed a registered letter containing a memo to Jerry Behlen & Van Unen et al formally advising them that I have terminated my service and that under “United States Code of Federal Regulations (CFR); 12 CFR Part 1026 - Truth in Lending (Regulation Z) Subpart B - Open-End Credit § 1026.5–§ 1026.16r “ they have one week from the day they receive this notice to return my money. I also requested a closing statement along with the money.I called Lada later in the day and asked again about the Chicago business and she said it must have been something she heard around the office.Tuesday 10-17-23: I spoke to Rosa and informed her on advice of counsel I was now recording all calls with Van Unen. I informed her I was made aware by Jerry last week that there was a problem with the electronic check registry – had that been fixed? She stated they don’t print checks in Ripon, all that stuff is now done in Chicago. I then asked if they received my registered letter.Sarita came back on the line and stated she did not give her consent to record; I stopped the recording. Sarita identified herself as the Customre service lead. I hear a lot of placating statements and apologies, and a promise to contact Chicago via email and get back with me tomorrow – Wednesday 10-18-23.A copy of these notes, my letter to Van Unen, their Invoice, and my August statement will be emailed to Western Propane Gas Association with whom I left a voice mail earlier.

Recommend this place over Kamps. Filled my spare 5 gallon tank and service was quick with fair pricing.

I would not recommend this company to anyone. When I decided to switch companies for a better rate they charged a ridiculous amount to come pick up their tank. The new company I switched to transferred the left over propane in tank and set the tank aside to make it easier for the pick up person and they still justified their charges. Do not use them!!

Was offered a payment plan in the past or an extension. Had a family member pass so our money was tied up. Called to ask for a two week extension and was told by some snobby lady that under new ownership they “just don’t do that anymore” lol. So we paid off our balance in full. Called today to see why our tank hasn’t been filled and was told that now we have to pay before they come out and fill the tank even though we’ve never missed a payment or anything. What a horrible way to treat people, you must not have any other victories in life to treat people like this when you feel like you can. There has to be someone else we can speak to.

We've been offered a payment plan or an extension on our bill in the past even though we did not need it because of an error on their end that left us without heat or gas in freezing temperatures. Had a family member pass so we called this time around to try and take advantage of that because our money was a little tied up. Was met by the rudest snobbiest woman who says she's in charge now under new ownership and that that's never been a thing lol. This tyrant made it seem as if we were problematic and couldn't afford our living expenses although our history of payments tells a different story. We paid that balance off in full even after being threatened to come home and find a lock on our tank if we didn't pay it off lol. This time around we noticed our tank is running low so we called to ask what was up. Come to find out now we have to call to have it serviced and we have to pay beforehand, under no foundation of this decision. We've never missed a payment. Have called once to see what our options could be lol. Was never told about this choice. So you mean to tell me that you were just gonna let the tank run out so we could find out about this? You were just gonna wait until then and have us scramble to get it serviced? Now this woman whom you can tell her family hates is being dodgy and won't get on the phone. Her underlings sound stressed out and as if they're running out of excuses and explanations for her avoidance. Say that that's probably all she's going to say without any rational explanation. There's no possible way owner's are ok with this woman representing their company. Utterly shameful to say the least.

This place is literally the worst. I've run out of propane four times with our 500 gallon tank. And each time they assured me I am on a service plan. And each time I run out and they can't fill me up until the following day. Only this time I ran out when it's 32° outside. Worst customer service, just unbelievable anybody would stay with this company.

Had them for nearly fifteen years with no issues. But now that I'm moving they decide I don't deserve any special treatment. Charging a lock off fee, refunding less than half the price per gallon, and no break on two tank rentals. I hope I can convince the new owners to use a different company. These folks don't care at all about their customers.

Horrible experience. First I was able to make payment arrangements and had my payment taken then get shut off two Weeks later and told sorry the guy was new. Then when payed in full they would not come out until the next afternoon. Was overcharged by like $150 and can not get a response to my messages. I will definitely be using any other company in the future
