“It's like getting into a treasure room. Jocelyn's (the owner) goal is and always was to have a free store, but she needs to pay the store's rent so she does plant sales. I don't know anybody more knowledgeable about plants than her, I got mine from her ages ago and they're thriving. Free UP is open only on Sundays now from 12pm to 3pm. Definitely one of my favorite places.”

“I would highly recommend coming here! The owner Michael is nice and the store is really clean. All of the clothing was sorted by color and it was very well organized. We liked looking through all the racks, all of the clothes were great quality and there was something there for everyone. The prices were also extremely fair. I will definitely come back the next time I am in Berkeley!”

“Great place to shop. Whenever I'm looking for something special, I go to the discovery store in Oakland. I am always pleased and amazed at the selection! Check it out!”

“A really wonderful local antique shop! They have so many unique items and something for just about everyone with great prices. The owners are super sweet people as well!”

“Hours on Google are usually up to date. Unbeatable prices for used children's clothing, socks, shoes, etc. They carry infant, toddler, and children's sizes. Located inside Harbor House. People who work here are so nice and friendly. I always find a handful of items to bring home for less than the price of one at a more "upscale" thrift store (and what's the point of thrifting if you're paying "new" prices for things?).”

“This store is a real asset to El Cerrito. Always nicely arranged and tidy. I noticed that they have an overabundance of outdated clothes that are very colorful. Seems people prefer black, grey and beige these days, so I hope they have an ecological way to dispose of them.”

“We were in the area and decided to stop by. It's not in the best of neighborhoods so I judged and thought it would not be good. First I walked in and everything is sorted by color to be honest I loved that. It was easy to find what you wanted. The closest were name brand and a lot of cute finds. There was also a lot of stuff with new tags. The prices were super reasonable. Definitely a hidden gem.”

“The perfect companion to the Turnabout Shop down the street with closely aligned limited hours and very similar selection, organization, and pricing! Friendly service and interesting options; formalwear gets a little pricier than I would like but regular clothes are reasonable. Books and knickknacks galore. Limited menswear selection. Don't miss for your thrifting day in the area!”

“Always some fun new rotating items! Makes me feel like I’m at the able sisters shop from animal crossing with their displays changing. The staff/volunteers are friendly and make good conversation. Decently priced home goods too!”

“DBFL is a wonderful place to shop for quality pre-owned goods. They carry women's, men's and children's apparel, accessories, home goods, toys, books, and a variety of other miscellaneous treasures. I always find the staff friendly and helpful.  It's a very fun place to shop, and best of all, the proceeds support the schools!”

“Great store, amazing finds, supporting an all women business is a win for me! Plus they had what I was looking for for my Christmas shopping list! It’s a circular economy- less waste in our landfill, affordable items for my wallet, repurposed items going to a good home and supporting single moms all while keeping our dollars in Oakland.”

“This is a nice thrift store with a range of clothing for both men and women, along with a good book selection organized by color, appliances, shoes, etc. The items are well organized and range from $1 bargains to more expensive items.”

“I work in HIV and I am pleased about this agency/retailer meeting and giving back to the community in a practical tangible way. The color-coordination and organization is extremely pleasing to the eye, making it much more easy to shop. Items are great quality, it’s clean, and spacious. My kids like thrifting so this is a great choice.”

“Be warned before coming here: This place is super small, I wouldn't call it a thrift store but more like a guy who sells used stuff. Don't get me wrong he's quite nice but if you're expecting clothes and vintage stuff don't come. It's mostly used applicances and used electronics. Still worth a visit if you're in the area”

“although smaller than the one in West Berkeley, it more densely packed; plus, the staff was very kind and patient as I tried headphones ‘n asked to see to the sizes of several shoes behind the counter. However, I reserve the last star for Out of Closet.”

“the staff was totally fine, maybe they changed? But the problem of prices seems to have occurred across all of the stores. $25 for worn out shoes. I thought this store felt less abandoned and more neat than the one in West Berkeley. It’s likely just chance. For the most part though, you might as treat yourself to Daiso for quality new Japanese goods at a cheaper price.”
