The owner is very helpful as well as her staff. Many encouraging books representing all walks of life. Our school book club gets it's books from here. Love that it's local.

I was extremely impressed with the variety of book. I had never heard of this store. Made some great purchases for my granddaughter. Will be coming back soon. The store needs to advertise outside of this area. I have shared my experience with friends who plan on making purchases. Keep up the great work!

My family and I recently went to the Multicultural Bookstore and Gifts. We were greeted immediately and felt at home. Andrea was extremely knowledgeable and personable. They have a great variety of books to choose from. I highly recommend taking a trip to 260 Broadway in Richmond, CA. Totally worth the trip.

I used to find myself in awe browsing through the colorful aisles filled with children's books at the Hilltop Mall location, and only recently found the the Multicultural Bookstore's new home by the Richmond Civic Center. This place is an ABSOLUTE LOCAL GEM. It's located in the heart of Richmond, near the Civic Center, City Hall, Art Center, and all. Growing up in the Richmond/San Pablo area, the values of diversity and all the experiences of various identities were instilled in me -- I was fortunate enough to have teachers who taught the histories of Native American tribes, friends who shared about their Southeast Asian refugee roots, Latin American immigration stories, and local Black culture. I'm even fortunate to have had mentors who taught me about disabilities and ways of making able-bodied experiences accessible and inclusive to such. When I came to the new location of the Multicultural Bookstore, it reminded me of all these things I was able to experience because of community while growing up. I'm in my late 20s, and the sense of gratitude I feel for this space is so strong especially because I consider myself a huge supporter of Ethnic Studies, regardless at what age people learn/read on it. The store provides everything from books on race (each with their own section) as well sections on things like history, disabilities, and even foster/adoption experiences. This is incredible considering that the books included are great resources for adults who are either raising or teaching youth and want to provide the mode of story telling to present certain concepts to them. I love this because it makes conversations about identity easier to process since young kids have tremendously imaginative minds. Recently my sister and I were in search of Filipino books to buy for our niece for Christmas and found exactly what we were looking for here - the books "Filipino Friends" and "Matulog Ka Ng Mahimbing, Panda." They had beautiful visuals, provided content around Filipino culture and the Tagalog language, and were useful for people beyond childhood (AKA a good teaching tool for her mom too!). The staff working that day (I believe her name was Andrea), was so welcoming and friendly. My sister and I told her how we knew of the place and how much we appreciated the business, especially as a community asset. I'm so happy that it didn't go away after Hilltop Mall started closing shops! I hope I can continue to buy more books here, especially in the future when I have my own children!

My first time at the Hilltop Mall and I stumbled into this store. I was super excited because I’d rather buy local than always have to find multicultural books on Amazon. The staff was amazing. Diane took great care in wrapping up 2 art pieces that I bought- above and beyond. I really just went in for books but fell in love with the whole place. The vibe, the quality of books, puzzles, and artwork and the friendliness of everyone there were all factors in making this a place I want to visit Often. I can’t wait to bring my grandson for story hour next week!

I needed some books with characters that look like the kids I'm reading to, and this place made it easy to find them. New first floor location is larger than the old location. Helpful staff who seem to love books and kids.

We just bought a book today. Very friendly. The space has a tiny little kids space with tiny stools, some toys, chairs, and floor pillows. Has different aged kids books. Just found out they have Saturday Story Time. And they will have (mid June-summer 2019) daily events such as projects, games, etc. I will be checking them out again soon.
