I loved working with Matthew. He brought a lot of enthusiasm and joy to the lessons, which made me feel relaxed and eager to learn. It was an ideal learning environment for me. I appreciated how he followed my interests in whatever path or shape they took.

Matthew is a great teacher and really knows his craft. I’ve been playing guitar for 20 years but he was very helpful in understanding theory and giving me practical tips for practicing better. I recommend him if you want lessons at any level.

Got back into playing guitar after a 8 year hiatus due to life/grad school/career. MCH has been an awesome teacher and is helping me progress both my theory and technical skills at a rate I’m very happy with! Super easy to interact and talk to and an all around awesome guy! If you’re willing to put in the work at home, he’s gonna help you get to where you want to be as a player/musician. Can’t recommend him enough and am very lucky to have found him as a teacher!

Matthew is a professional musician and also a kind and engaged teacher. His dual roles made him inspiring and effective for my daughter who took lessons with him on a range of musical styles, focusing on jazz and rock, from middle to high school. I highly recommend Matt Heulitt as a guitar teacher. Matt was great at giving me the foundational tools that I needed to get started, and was fun to learn from. He encouraged me to pick songs I enjoyed to work with. Matt also seemed to understand me and how I operate. You won't go wrong with Matt, for either kid or adult lessons!

My teenager started taking lessons with Matthew over a year and a half ago. As an absolute beginner, my son progressed at a much more rapid pace than I had ever anticipated due to Matthew's personalized teaching.Matthew took the time to get to took the time to know my son, to understand what his musical passions were, and to adapt his lessons to fit my son's learning style while continually challenging him. Even more importantly, Matthew's positivity and encouragement allowed my son to see his own potential, not only in music but in life as well.Matthew's wealth of musical knowledge combined with his natural ability as a teacher is a perfect synergy. I highly recommend Matthew as a guitar teacher!

A great music teacher can come in many forms. A strict by the book academic to teach you technique , a coaxer who brings inspiration out of their students, a patient teacher that allows their students to develop on their time to grow organically into their own voice, a flexible accepting teacher who cheers you in your successes and your failures, and among many other traits a teacher who can surprise you about your own accomplishments that you may have overlooked. Matthew you are all of those and so much more! The Bay Area will miss your music, your heart and soul and your teachings.

I've had great music teachers in the past, but Matt is by far the best of them all.I have been playing and enjoying music since grammar school, playing the violin. Once I started my career in Science and Medicine I had to discontinue playing, but now that I have more time on my hands ( blissfuly retired) I decided to pick up the guitar. Having arrived at it from a high-pressure, performance-oriented career, I brought this attitude to my guitar playing. Matt, with his gentle and patient manner slowly nudged me toward a relaxed, zen-like attitude of playing music. The results have been phenomenal. Not only did I progress rapidly through difficult pieces, but I actually learned to truly enjoy my playing. Gone was the tension, the need to "perform". He worked on my head, as well as on my guitar technique and musicality. Absolutely the perfect teacher. I can't thank him enough.

Matt is an amazing guitar player, teacher, and human being. My experience with him was essential to the musician I am becoming. I wasn't a great student haha, but nonetheless his lessons really helped me to understand music, and ultimately navigate through its many subjects to find where I can best fit. He is patient, skilled beyond belief, gentle, and listens to YOU, facilitating YOUR goals. An education with him will set a perfect foundation for musical growth, it will be fun, and if you listen to him, you will become strong.

I’ve been taking lessons from Matthew for the past 18 months. I met Matthew when he was coaching my CJC blues ensemble group and I realized that I needed to reboot my guitar playing with some guidance from Matthew.The coaching from Matthew has been my best guitar investment in the last 15 years! He meets you where you are and he is quite zen like in his approach to making music and in supporting your personal musical journey.In short, Matthew is an awesome teacher!!!

My 12-year-old daughter has been learning guitar from Matthew on Zoom for a few months, and her sound is growing more musical by the week. She also says that he is the nicest person and the best teacher she's ever had! Very professional, kind, and great with young people. We look forward to her taking lessons in person someday soon!

It doesn't look like Matthew needs more rave reviews and I am sure people are lining up for lessons. But I wanted to chime in. I've had two guitar lessons from him and it's been life changing. I'm a songwriter and have always kind of strummed along with the guitar, literally never looking at my right hand while playing. He showed me the right way to strum which has steadied my rhythm. He gently encouraged me to try using a pic, giving me good reasons for trying it out. I get it now! Matthew is so kind and thoughtful. He took my 70+ year old self exactly where I was. He gave me techniques to practice efficiently. He encouraged me to work on my own songs right away on the guitar - without the voice and melody. I'm now hearing more possibilities that ultimately will enhance my songs. Amazing!
