If you're a gardener this place has a plethora of pots. Potting soils and fertilizers. Plant and flower selection is nice. Staff helpful and knowledgeable.

“Haas had a romantic and warm soul. Perfect spray for the funeral I am hosting. I feel very happy for my loved one, as a immigrant, he got such a beautiful flower spray from a 70+ old man. When I first come to the store, it is a bit dark, and does not not look as morden and beautiful as other florist store. After double check, I found that Haas store flowers inside fridges here and there. And the flower is amazing, I love the color tone, it is perfectly matched, white, but not all white, very elegant, shows his taste. Also, I did not image that he would use as much as 92 flowers for the spray, much more than he committed. During this sad time, I really feel the sincere caring from a professional florist. He may look casual, but is really an expert from 40+ years practice. Also, he stayed up late to deliver it on time. I find I trusted this right person. If you are new to spray and wreath, like I was, you can check with florist about the numbers of flowers, the dimension of the work, and the condition of raw flowers in the store to see if the color and freshness is as your expected. hope that works. I compared several store, Haas had the best offer, and he deliver more than he offered. I hope he can make more pictures for the flowers he had made, so that it helps customers understand his capabilities, rather than miss this hidden gem by the store decoration.”

Best yet are the second or third generation owners of the place who really know what they're talking about.

Maybe not the best prices, but you don't go there for the best prices, you go because they know what they're talking about.

Bonus points dare: think of four different kinds of plants. Every 5 minutes, pick one in your head, go up and tell them you are having trouble with your plants looking weak. Ask what kind of fertilizer you should use.

“I came in out of curiosity and was amazed by all the diversity of beautiful plants. Now it is one of my favorite places, although sometimes I just go to relax, everyone is very friendly and every time I go I am surprised because there is something new.”

“My wife and I were married at the San Mateo Arboretum in June of 2019, it just occurred to me I should post a review! We were very happy with the venue, we had the wedding out in the garden with about 52 people. We used the Pump House to stage things, and had the buffet tables outside. We were able to bring in a catering truck with a pizza oven, and the caterer provided the servers to stage the food and serve the drinks. Our contact helped us with the logistics and was there for the event, when there was an issue with another event in the park blocking the access she quickly worked it out with them and got the path cleared. There are some limitations to work with: no real kitchen for cooking, no dishwashing, and the interior would be cramped for 45 people, so hope for clear weather and bring a mobile caterer. Don't expect to play really loud music or have a big dance party on the grass. But for a small low-key wedding the garden is fantastic, and makes a wonderful backdrop. The price is very affordable, and we were able to book it with 4 months notice, so it was a very good option for us... Highly recommended if it fits your needs!”

“Don’t let the location fool you. These guys know small motor equipment. They had the parts that I needed to repair my wood chipper. I had a good discussion about the design and issues with my model with the salesman. I’ve been here before and I’ll definitely come back in the future.”

I believe I know all the outlets for native plant sources in the SF Bay Area. This one is always a rotation of fresh surprises and for myself. over time, a learning and experimentation experience. Along with Google as a source, Judy always has good insight and instincts WRT the parameters for native gardener interest - a plants: deer resistance, drought tolerance, lighting requirements, soil types etc. Prices here are also very competitive which one would not expect given the "Palo Alto" address.”

Rick Moore and Florence & New Italian Art went above and beyond to address my concerns and ensure my peace of mind. Their delivery team was refreshingly honest and transparent. They pointed out the crack in the fountain upon delivery, which allowed me to thoroughly inspect it before accepting the product. Although the crack was not in an obvious place, it was tough for me to assess whether it would get worse over time. I expressed my concerns about its potential to worsen beyond the warranty period. Rick displayed exceptional professionalism and a genuine commitment to my satisfaction. While in his best opinion, the crack would not worsen, they were willing to exchange the fountain or offer an extended warranty specifically addressing any potential worsening of the crack. This level of commitment and willingness to go the extra mile distinguishes this operation as a top-notch establishment. They genuinely care about their customers and, at least with me, strived to build a long-lasting relationship based on trust and integrity. “Great place to exchange co2 tanks for beer brewing. As of the time of this writing (Oct 2023), it costs $25 to exchange a 20 lb tank instead of some ridiculous prices at other places. The people have always been very nice and friendly. Thank you and keep up the good work!”

“I have purchased over 40 orchids recently from Brookside. I am so impressed with their orchid health and quality. I recommend their orchids without reserve. I had them shipped to Florida. They wrapped each orchid carefully and lovingly. The orchids came larger and healthier then orchids I have received from other well known vendors. These people really care about the orchids and their customers. I couldn't say enough good things about Brookside. I actually ordered a second time and now own every orchid in their inventory. “We are 2 years into a home remodel project. Not everything has gone ..... (cough !) smoothly. There have been a lot of ups n downs on this merry adventure of financial insecurity and anxiety. But ! Throughout all of our successes and some of our "oh shit ! " moments. Home Depot in San Mateo has been right along side us. They've never given us grief with a legitimate issue and they've always been polite , prompt and friendly. Todays Yelp is a direct result of an interaction that my wife and I had with Steve in the return department. He may not remember me but I remember him from several prior interactions with him over the last two years. Steve is polite , friendly , articulate and genuinely kind and helpful. We had made a serious mistake and bought a very expensive item that was essentially entirely useless to us once we discovered our blunder. I was so relieved to see Steve at the counter. He didn't make a big fuss about our return or ask a bunch of questions to force us to admit that we'd screwed up. (We did. ..) he didn't "oh I need a manager for this .." or act like we were doing something shady. (It seems to me that these days most retailers make the act of an exchange or a refund feel like you're committing retail fraud. It's icky out there folks !!!). Nope. Steve honored the spirit of Home Depot's policy and he helped us fix our blunder quickly and efficiently with a solution that was acceptable and let us feeling valued as a customer. Service like he delivered took away a touch of the angst and anxiety that I have been almost constantly feeling for two years. I might even sleep a little tonight. Thanks Steve !! I hope someone at Home Depot reads this and gives you a bonus or a raise. At the least a cookie !! I appreciated being treated like a human being.”
