I love First Republic Bank but not the Redwood City branch. I came in to deposit checks and Paul, who is apparently the manager, did not want my business and did not want to help. He had me sit at his desk for a few minutes as he finished up his last transaction (to intentionally waste my time). I could tell he didn't want to be at work today. My guess is that he was short staffed because he was working with one other person. He proceeded to tell me that he could not deposit my checks, which was odd since I've done the same deposits over 100 times with different employees at different branches and at the same branch with other employees. When he realized I was upset, he then said he could do it. I didn't like how I was being treated so I took my checks and left. Will not be returning to this location ever.

The Best Bank Ever.Great service always. I stayed with them even with others panicking because I didn't want to be part of destroying the only bank I've ever found with terrific customer service. Now that it's been taken over by Chase (which broke into our safe deposit box without notifying us, even though those fees had been regularly paid, and sent everything to the State as unclaimed property,) I can never trust that bank again. Another problem with the big banks is that they have a single phone number--you can't call the branches--and are faced with a confusing, multiple-guess menu with many barriers, if you can even get to a live person. If you do get someone live, it's likely they'll be in some foreign country and have limited English proficiency, and I don't want my banking information accessible to people who aren't even in the United States. Sad that depositors panicked and destroyed this wonderful bank. While I'm glad Chase will evidently protect my balance, their terrible customer service means I will bank elsewhere. I feel awful for the employees whose lives have been upended and hope they fare well.

What a scary time the last 2 weeks. I'm a senior who had first hand experience and went through the WAMU debacle in 2008. So when things started to turn upside down last week I panicked like most who had life savings with FRB. With significant savings at FRB I withdrew funds and didn't really care about penalties for early withdrawal. Regardless of which branch I went to I was always treated with respect and assured I really shouldn't worry. Easy to say but still a few sleepless nights. I was always given options of how to title our accounts to maximize FDIC coverage but still I turned a deaf ear. After doing a bit more due diligence I realized I may have acted a bit too quickly in my decision to close several accounts. Yesterday I dropped by to ask a question about how my penalty was calculated. Surprisingly, branch manager PAUL said if I wanted to change my mind he could reinstate my CD's , retitle them to max the FDIC coverage and waive the early withdrawal fees as though the closed transaction never occurred. Hard to believe but I took up his offer. Needless to say I was there this morning and worked with his associate ARNO. It was a process that took awhile but I walked away in a confident comfort level. So about an hour ago which is after banking hours I received a VM from ARNO....he just wanted to let me know everything was processed as discussed and promised. All I can say is FRB is the place to be. As a retiree from the Financial industry this is the type of service from an organization I would highly recommend. As a side note and from a marketing standpoint, the best way to get depositors back is to publicly announce what they are willing to do. I doubt my case would be isolated. I'll,sleep well tonight! Horrible experience. I call first republic to open a business account. They inform me that I will get a call from someone at the local branch. But no one does. So I go there in person. The person helping me(1) does not know what paperwork is required to open an account.(2) what type of things I should consider(3) worst of all pulls the information of someone else's company and is using that to fill my form. This is probably the worst banking experience I have ever had. How do you pull the wrong information of a different entity and then use that ?This review should count as -10 stars. Because if you are going to get your customers information wrong you shouldn't be in the banking business.

This bank is garbage honestly I wanted to partner with them and open up a business account their standards for a business account were extremely ridiculous honestly they want you to have 30 k minimum balance every day I told them that's ridiculous if you go under they keep charging you every day until you bring the account money back up ? This bank missed an opportunity to become partners with blessed electric read my Yelp page I have nothing but 5 star reviews from costumers and I'm one of the best electricians in the Bay Area honestly.

It sounds a bit dramatic, but I love my bank. I ALWAYS...no really... always get great, personal, professional customer service. They don't just talk about customer service, they actually offer amazing customer service. How refreshing to walk into the bank and immediately feel like your business matters. Thanks First Republic Bank!

At first it was a problem to cash a check using a government issued tribal id card,Paul called around and verified they can accept a tribal id like all the other banks accept, then called around to find the funds, the only thing with this Bank is you haft to call ahead to cash a xheck,I find that very strange being a bank then they haft to call around to find the cash. Strange thanks for helping us out paul..

After a lot of expensive and underhanded business practices by a bank whom I won't name but rhymes with Hell's Cargo, The Wife and I decided that we need to move our assets and banking needs somewhere else. We had First Republic recommended to us from friends and while I was a little uncertain because they are not a nationwide chain, our friends are savvy and we gave them a shot. We were seated in the small lobby and offered fresh, soft chocolate chip cookies. Sure, I thought, butter us up with chocolate, sugar, and butter. You're not fooling me. Paul was our representative and he opened up with a statement of how the bank seeks to serve the customer first and the products of the bank are designed with that philosophy. Internally, the cynical side of me is thinking 'Yeah, and Burger King does the same thing, they even have it in their song.' but as my loathing for Hell's Cargo rose to a frothy boil, we knew we needed a change so we agreed to move. Paul set us up with our checking account and The Wife's business account and I baited him asking about credit cards. "We don't have a credit card business, we want to make money with our customers, not from our customers. Let me get you in touch with our assistants, they'll help you set up your bill pay." Hmm, that's not common. Perhaps this was a customer first environment after all. We had other savings accounts that we wanted to move into a single entity, so we asked to set up a meeting with their wealth management team. It took a little bit of time to schedule a meeting because of my calendar, but we made it and met Mark and Paul again to discuss financial plans. Mark opened up with 'The reason why my business partner and I came here is because the customer is first.' and in my head I'm thinking 'Hold the pickles hold the lettuce...' Paul then hands me a packet with our financials within it. I remark 'Crap, I forgot my reading glasses.' and Paul says, 'What kind to do you need?' I'm pause for a minute and say '1.75x'. He hobbles out of the room (he was using a crutch because of a leg injury and I felt awful for him doing that) and then a minute later he comes back with two pair, 1.5x and 2.0x. I'm floored, and I put on the 1.5x while Mark goes through all the details of our accounts, and we discuss the risk of the assets compared to the risk of what we want, and then we move into discussions about real estate, taxes, and financing that were so informed and helpful, that's when I realized this place meant what it said about customer service. So we still have a bit to do in terms of reorganizing our finances, but I do feel a lot more comfortable than I did with the other banks who really treat you worse than the numbers they bilk you for.

I can't say enough about the service I have received at First Republic Bank! My banker, Angel always greets me personally... There are no teller windows, this is like being in your own living room. No matter how complicated the banking issue (and there have been many) Angel and her organization are most competent! I hope you will give them a try, I have referred many friends who are very happy with their stunning service.

I had heard/seen the commercials but the reality was even better. This is how banking should be done. I have had some horrible experiences in the past with "big banks" and could not be any happier now that I am with First Republic. Manager Paul Chou made me feel more like a close family member than a "client" If you are frustrated/tired of how your bank treats you, I can highly recommend FRB. Give them a try!

This was my first experience banking with First Republic and manager Paul made a lasting impression. This is not your typical bank and I mean that in the best way possible. There are no bank tellers with glass dividers, just an open space with a few desks and someone to greet you right as you enter. Paul was kind and answered all our questions. He gave us a good breakdown of what to expect in the future and put us in touch with the right people. Looking forward to this lifelong commitment with First Republic!

Please believe the one-star reviews for this RWC branch of First Republic. I believe the white female rep who worked here on Saturday, August 11, 2018, is racist. My wife and I had tried to open an ATM rebate checking account. So when we entered this branch, both reps were either with another client or on the phone - no greeting such as "we'll be right with you. Please have a seat." So we had waited about ten minutes. Then the female rep grudgingly asked if we needed assistance. When I had asked about the bonus for opening an account, she proceeded to lecture about how they discourage clients to open an account simply for the bonus, that they are looking for long-term relationships so that clients can experience their full range of services. She wouldn't answer my question about what gifts they are giving out for opening an account because my in-laws had great things to say about their 24th Ave and Geary branch in San Francisco - about all the things that were given to them for opening an account. Needless to say, my wife got so upset with this woman's condescending attitude that we walked out. And she forced me to promise that we will never do any business with First Republic. They never gave us a chance to experience their "full range of services."
