I recently had a very bad experience with Helen Woodard. I used this hospital for years when Dr. Carter was head Vet. Once she left the position I found it to be second rate and run improperly with less compassion and zero customer service at the front desk. I recently had an emergency with a dog (poodle) that had been struck by a car not more than 5 minutes from the hospital. The car left the scene and I called Helen Woodward as I was rushing the poor thing to the hospital. I was told by the front office the doctors were all booked. I said this was an emergency and could they please help. She said "we don't take emergency visits". I said where can I take the poor thing. The front office person said, "Google it" - I was so stressed I said "You should at least have a referral to emergency Vet if you don't take allow emergency visits!!". She had an absolutely flat attitude and I was left with a dying dog. I finely found a compassionate Vet hospital in Encinitas that took me immediately. It took me 20 minutes to get there, they were so wonderful with my situation and took the dog in to their trauma room but unfortunately the dog did not make it. Now, I am not saying Helen Woodward hosital would have been able to save him but they could have tried! Or at least have a compassionate attitude. I heard NONE of that on the phone. I will never return to that Hospital.

Poor care, expensive, inexperienced.. l have been going there 24 years just about. And most of the well seasoned vets are retired. And, there's little vet clinics to go to. l am so disappointed with the care and reception handling. l am hoping to find better care for my dog. Skip this vet clinic. Unfortunately, the clinic has gone down hill.

I really felt comfortable bringing my little pup here to take care of her teeth. Dr. Oviedo was very compassionate with both my dog and I. Great staff as well!

I wish I had found this wonderful veterinary hospital when I moved here almost six years ago. Jetta, my beloved standard Dachshund has IVDD. The care she recieved today was excellent. The building is very well taken care of, inside is comfortable and smells good!!!! Jetta was treated with such gentleness and they made me feel comfortable, something that is hard to do when my fur babies are hurting. I highly recommend that you bring all your pets here. I am so happy to finally find a great vet!!!!! Thank you for all that you do!!!!

Loved it! Damaris and Dr Garvey were so loving and reassuring to our furbaby. Dr Garvey listened and addressed our concerns They both gave impression that they loved their job. The space was spacious, clean, almost zen-like. So happy we made the awitch.

My husband and I both went in to adopt a dog at this location which we have adopted here before with our first puppy first time different experience lady's were so much help and nice this time today we were profiled and treated with much disrespect so many animals needing a loving home and this location just judged us saying we don't have a big enough space when they don't even know and said we wouldn't be a good fit ? Words don't come to mind how profiled and disrespectful it was even the lady waiting near us heard and said these animals need a home yet they profile people like they did to us this lady I didn't get her name but rude to say the least horrible employee and manager for letting this happen.

Best Vets in San Diego, and as a nonprofit the care is top notch while the cost is very reasonable.

I just saw a review of one star being posted and it reminded me to post about the horrible customer service and attitude from the staff year after year. Try complaining and there will be consequences. There is no concern for the paying customers here. Complaints to the supervisor goes no where..

Companion Animal Hospital opened in March of 2013 under the umbrella of nonprofit Helen Woodward Animal Center. They offer a variety of services to all cats and dogs. This includes orthopedic surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, laser therapy, preventative medicine, digital radiology, diagnostic internal medicine and routine care. My dog developed a skin growth on the outside of his leg that needed surgery. Initially I figured this was an easy fix. Just schedule the procedure then take my sweet boy home. Not so much, unless money is no object for you. The quote I received (from my local vet) shocked me. No way could I afford this. So began my exhaustive search. After many weeks I found Companion Animal Hospital. When I called them to ask for a quote they couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. Immediately they thought their price would be competitive however they needed to see my dog in person to verify. Upon arriving the receptionist and technician were very friendly and knowledgeable about dogs. I could tell every employee was genuinely an animal person. We went into a room right away and the appointment went really well. Both my dog Bear and myself genuinely liked Dr Garvey which in my book is a huge deal. Since my dog suffers from anxiety at the vet. She was very informative about answering all my questions and explaining what needed to be done. After the appointment I received a quote for the needed surgery and was completely relieved to see the price was four times less than the original quote at the other vet. So needless to say my dog received his surgery here, was in and out the same day with no problems or complications. His growth was benign so no worries about cancer, hallelujah. We returned a few weeks later for his suture removal. This was very quick and my dog was rewarded with the removal of the dreaded cone. I can't say enough good things about all of the staff here and Dr. Garvey. Thank you for saving my dog because essentially that is what happened. It may not have been life threatening at the time, however if I hadn't found you all then his growth would have kept getting worse. Potentially turning into a life threatening situation. I'm very thankful to everyone at Companion Animal Hospital and will sing your praises to everyone I know.
