Stepping Onto Phil Mickelson's Turf: A Review of Del Mar Country ClubNestled amidst the rolling hills of Del Mar, California, lies Del Mar Country Club, a golf paradise that wouldn't feel out of place in Phil Mickelson's trophy room. As one of the club's esteemed members, Lefty himself has graced these fairways countless times, leaving his legacy etched in every birdie and every epic sand save. But is Del Mar simply a playground for golf royalty, or does it hold charm for mere mortals like us? Let's tee off and find out.First Impressions: The moment you drive through the gates of Del Mar Country Club, you're transported to a world of manicured greens, shimmering ponds, and ocean vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see. The Spanish Colonial clubhouse, reminiscent of a hacienda estate, exudes an air of timeless elegance, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.Fairways Fit for a Champion: The 18-hole championship course, designed by the legendary William F. Bell, is a masterpiece of strategic design. Rolling hills, cunningly placed bunkers, and undulating greens challenge golfers of all skill levels, while breathtaking ocean views from every hole provide a constant source of inspiration (and, perhaps, a little intimidation).Beyond the Green: But Del Mar isn't just about chasing birdies. The club boasts a plethora of amenities to keep everyone entertained, including:Sparkling swimming pool and jacuzzi: Take a refreshing dip after a hot round or simply soak up the California sun.Tennis courts: Challenge your friends to a friendly match on the club's pristine clay courts.State-of-the-art fitness center: Stay in shape with the latest equipment and expert trainers.Fine dining: The club's restaurants offer delectable menus featuring fresh, local ingredients, with stunning views as the perfect accompaniment.Vibrant social scene: From member events to casual gatherings, Del Mar fosters a warm and welcoming community where you can connect with fellow golf enthusiasts. The Lefty Effect: Of course, being Phil Mickelson's home club adds a certain mystique to Del Mar. Walking the same fairways as one of golf's greatest legends gives your game a touch of magic, even if your swing is more reminiscent of a windmill than a graceful arc. You might not be sinking eagle putts like Lefty, but you'll still feel the thrill of playing on a course that's hosted some of the game's most iconic moments. The Verdict: Del Mar Country Club is more than just a golf course; it's an escape, a playground for the senses, and a chance to step into the world of golfing royalty. The immaculate course, world-class amenities, and captivating ocean views make it a true golfer's paradise. While the hefty membership fees might be a hurdle for some, the experience undoubtedly justifies the cost for those who can afford it. So, whether you're a seasoned golfer aiming to channel your inner Mickelson or simply seeking a luxurious escape, Del Mar Country Club is sure to deliver an unforgettable experience.Final Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This is one of the prettiest golf courses on earth. Whoever designed the clubhouse deserves an award. It feels like a little castle to walk into. The course is a great north San Diego 18 hole private course that is wonderfully maintained. I even got to play on the Steinway piano before the round. The Del Mar Country Club is an 11 out of 10!

One of the best golf days ever. Dan, our caddie was a great addition to our group. The course is immaculate and made for a great playing experience. Thank you to the Torrey Pines concierge for providing the opportunity.

I read some of the negative reviews about DMCC on Yelp. DMCC is indeed privately owned and is not institutionally operated like some other private clubs. Having been a member at both Santa Luz and The Farms as well, I think all 3 clubs are great. I will say though that when I was a member at DMCC a few years back it was a pleasure. The golf staff never hassles you, the course was great, food above average for a private club and my wife who does not golf loved to go out every weekend for breakfast and lots of Friday dinner meals. In my opinion the owner, who is frequently at the Club DOES care about the members, the golf course and the experience. She took all of the members who wanted to go, to a private movie screening in La Jolla and also puts on some great Charity tournaments. DMCC is not for everyone, but it is a great place if you want a casual golf/lifestyle experience. I moved to Scottsdale, but my wife and I miss San Diego and DMCC so we are rejoining as National Members.

Amazing time @ Del Mar Country club. The Course was amazing and we had a great time with Tom as our caddy. Ended the round by having lunch at the club house where the food was amazing!!! The staff including Fer and Austin were amazing. They catered to our every need and were super friendly and courteous. Definitely looking to come back. We were having such an amazing time that the club house provided a champagne bottle to end our lunch... love love love it here!!!

Easy parking. Tastefully decorated, like an English hunting lodge. Dark wood, substantial furniture, lots of artwork. Attentive service, excellent food and drinks. Amazing location.

So the Course is great and the head pro is great but the ownership of the club and everything else is a total joke.... interesting like basically every one of my friends has left the club... and when I left in September not one single person asked why??? that is because no one cares about the membership and the owner does not care for any member !!! DO NOT JOIN THIS CLUB until ownership changes !!! what real private golf club has mats and will not open up a huge grass deck !!! Del Mar Country Club because the owner does not care about golf!!! SHE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT GOLF !!!!!! Im joining another club for more money because DMCC is a total joke,,, $1,100 per quarter food minimum + plus 25% service charge + tax and tip !!!! and the food is not any good!!! The owner does not understand business at all... why would you go and spend more than your minimum when the food is low quality and more cost than any top local high end restaurant.... she has absolutely no clue how to run a country club let alone a restaurant!!! such a total total joke and someone needs to speak up -- just ask anyone in the San Diego golf community and they will tell you the exact same thing !!!! great a below par burger for $30 !!! true it is a totally joke.... to bad the owner won't sell to one of a number of people who would run the club like a great Country Club.... !!! so sad --- and again everyone knows how terrible DMCC is managed !!!

As for the course, it was wonderful. But I have a huge problem with members. I understand you paid for this and you deserve to get what you want at the course to an extent, but I am not going to respect people who don't respect others and treat them terribly. The fact that we couldn't pass simply cause they are members and would piss them off is horse. We were on pace for a 6 hour round and it took 14 holes for them to let us through. Huge disappointment. Moral of it I hope you learn to respect everyone no matter a member or guest. I don't care how much money you have

Amazing experience, I could never afford to play this course without assistance from the Mercedes-Benz function I was involved with. The clubhouse is incredible, there is a bar in the locker room. A bar! The course itself is tough the first time you play it, target golf with lots of blind shots. But it was perfectly manicured and a treat to play.

As we passed through the security check point, confirming our reservation, we were in awe with the lush landscaping throughout. We agreed to meet some friends here, both who are members of this country club. Saturday afternoon was quiet, no hustle and bustle, and ample parking. As you enter the front doors, the entryway is picturesque. The clubhouse was quiet with opulent yet comfortable furnishings and a live tree in the middle! Immediately you feel calm, relaxed and unbothered. There is no reception for your cell phone here, I think mainly so that you can fully enjoy the grounds and company. We were lost so we asked our friends to help guide us to the lunch area, tucked in the back past the gift shop. I did appreciate the multiple military paraphanelia lining the walls as we headed to the dining area. Service is great, food was affordable and I loved the Avocado bowl that I ordered. Avocado bowl was filled with corn, black beans, salsa, cheese and brown rice with a big portion or salmon. I seriously could not finish this dish, it was alot. I did have a taste of their steak fries, which was lightly salted and perfectly crisp. It was not crowded which is nice because you can fully relax. You also are not rushed out because people are waiting, because there are no people waiting. Definitely, would return for relaxing breakfast or lunch.
