One person wondered why all the great reviews. If you notice, the great reviews are all more than a year old. None from later in 2020 to now are good. My experience with DVOH was abominable. The oncologist was acceptable, but her staff was impossible to deal with, and since one rarely sees the actual doctor, it is of utmost importance that the staff is top notch. My first complaint is I couldn't get a question answered no matter how many ways I phrased it. E.g., I asked the infusion nurse if the type of chemo I was getting caused chemo brain. Her answer was that there is no laboratory proof that chemo brains exists. Well, it may not be able to be reproduced in a lab, but ask the 10s of millions of people who have it if it exists. Interestingly, the oncologist I see now is internationally known for her research on chemo brain. Strange coincidence, huh? I wasn't told, e.g., that blood draws are not done on the same day as the chemo. Was I supposed to know that because, well, everybody knows that? I had an appt. for a blood draw, which if by coincidence I hadn't spoken to the oncologist, I would have gone to for no reason because I didn't need a blood draw at that time. So, if I went, either (1) my blood would have been drawn for no reason; or (2) I would have driven the 22 miles (round trip) from home to their office for nothing. Either way, I would have wasted my time, gas and/or blood, and that is not acceptable. When I asked the doctor why it was on my schedule if I didn't need to go, she told me it is just standard practice with most chemo, but the kind of chemo I was getting didn't require it. Well, thanks a lot! I had an appointment with a Nurse Practitioner for nutritional information, but when I got to the appt., it was for chemo instructions. I chose that particular NP because she is a nutrition expert. Because I thought I was going to a nutrition "class," I didn't prepare any questions for a chemo "class," making it a waste of all of our time. Ultimately, I was banned from seeing the oncologist's staff for reasons which I was not allowed to know. I was told it was because I was too "aggressive" and stepped over the nurse's boundaries, whatever that means. But I think it was because I asked too many questions, all of which seem to have been unanswerable by the staff. So after being banned from having contact with the staff, I found a new oncologist. I have had every one of my questions answered at the new practice, get along with everyone and except for cancer and the trauma of dealing with such uncompassionate and inadequate support as I was at DVOH, everything is now fine!

Not sure why all the great reviews. I was given the wrong dose of chemo for my stage of cancer. I was so ill to weekly abraxene as opposed to every 3 weeks I had to go to ER more then 3 times and could not function. It is as horrible. . It caused me to have other issues related to my treatment. I was told by DVO that my symptoms were not due to chemo. . Even my allergist knew they were due to chemo, and my cardiologist and PCP. . DVO refused to treat me as an individual. They never DNA tested, as they said they would. They have no symptoms management program, no nutritionist, no integrative medicine program. They weren't willing to adjust Meds for the individual. Obviously they didn't want to be bothered. Just infuse everyone the same way. They even wanted to ignore possible an allergic reaction. Most of the infusion nurses are rude. I have little to say that is good about my experience. The techs were all helpful and courteous. I'm now with a different facility. It is so much better. I still have issues with chemo but I'm much receiving better care for myself.

Dr Matthew Sirott, Mariya Ryazantseva and the rest of the staff have been awesome. I give them sooooo much credit for extending my wife's life to over 4X what her old doctors said she'd have a when first diagnosed(8+ years vs up to 1-2 years). This is such a difficult job, dealing with patients who quite often won't be around too long, but the nurses, assistants and doctors all tried everything that my insurance would approve. There were a lot of times that treatments or procedures were denied. My wife's cancer was vicious and aggressive. She tried every probably every chemo or immunotherapy on the market, did radiation multiple times, did infusions, had surgeries, and they always did their best to keep her truthfully informed, and keep her spirits up, even when the news wasn't good. Now my wife generally hates going to the doctor, but a trip to Diablo Valley was more like talking with friends for her. Now I will say to ask questions, and get all copies reports for yourself, so you can go home, and read and learn about what is happening. I think it was difficult doing this, but made everything make sense about what was happening. When you have a little knowledge about your treatment and conditions, the decisions are much easier to make in my opinion. I will miss my wife more than I can explain, but I truly believe they did their best to take care of Jerusha. Rest In Peace.

The staff at Diablo Valley Oncology is nothing short of incredible. Without exception, everyone who works there is kind, caring and always professional. There is a warmth that radiates from each and every member of the staff. They really know how to make a very difficult situation as pleasant and painless as possible. THANK YOU!

Maria the NP for Dr. Kao is a complete idiot. Rude and unprofessional doesn't begin to describe her.

This practice was outstanding prior to become a corporate entity that now takes responsibility for nothing, its all about money! When you make mistakes, own up to them. I loved this practice but a revolving door of staff and people unaccountable remains a problem you need to deal with!
