BEWARE! I contacted Terry Tigh, owner/agent, of A.D. Dern Insurance Agency and requested to cancel my renter's insurance. Legally, a policy owner can cancel their policy at any time, for any reason. He REFUSED to cancel my insurance, citing he needed a letter of release of liability from my property manager - this is an illegal practice. After refusing to take a number of calls, I was able to speak with Terry. I explained that, as the insured, I have the legal right to cancel my renter's insurance and his only legal duty was to notify property management. Terry replied, "Listen, missy, you don't have to like my business practices. I am overriding your request to terminate renter's insurance". This agent actually stated that he was "overriding" my legal right to cancel renter's insurance?!?! Complaints have been filed with the California Department of Insurance, Better Business Bureau, and Progressive Direct at corporate level.My own property manager even agreed with me and said they did not understand why he was asking for these documents...and they also made a comment about his attitude!Nice to you when you sign up and pay but will become your biggest headache when you try to cancel.

BEWARE: NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL.Does not respond to phone calls, emails, or voicemails. Over 21 days of trying to get in contact with them- still no response.I have been with this agency since 2019 and I have not had any problems since everything is automated and I haven't had to make a claim. I recently reached out to the agency for the first time and spoke with Terry in regards to adjusting my current insurance policy. Terry was knowledgable and informative about the insurance products. However, it has been over 21 days and I have yet to receive any response to my emails or voicemails to follow-up with that initial discussion. This is poor customer service and unprofessional. Dealing with insurance is a serious matter that requires the support of the agent (and agency) that you are in business with. You will not have the necessary support, nor an ability to reach/communicate with this agency. Do yourself and all that is insured a a favor, and TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.

As an insurance broker, AD Dern is great. Finds the best rate and I had no trouble with the 4 accidents my families been in. Even helps mitigate and make the process easier when dealing with the actual insurance company.

Would avoid at all costs. Similar experience to what others have posted. Don't waste your time or money with this agency.

Over the past two years, A.D. Dern Insurance Agency has provided me excellent customer service with my auto policies. Recently, I contacted the agency to discuss a change in my auto policies due to upcoming life changes. Terry, one of the insurance agents, was professional, kind, and provided me with excellent customer service. He helped me explore my options and was attentive in communicating with me. Ultimately, we were able to revise my policy to best fit my needs and at a cost- efficient price point.

Ins, who thinks he knows it all and did want to listen it was water and would not file a claim worst and screemed at me I hung up even told him to calm down.

AD Dern Insurance is best avoided. As a client I did not receive basic customer service like timely and clear communication or even simple respect.
They do not respond to requests in a timely fashion if at all. When I then reach out again (after days or weeks of no response) they say the need more information to complete my request (this happened at least twice). I'm not a mind reader and have no way of knowing you need more information to complete my request unless someone communicates that to me.
When I then express dissatisfaction at the way my request or account has been handled I was told I'm "full of complaints".
Again, I highly recommend you go elsewhere for your insurance needs.

Terry is the reason why the industry invented and uses brokers. He and his company brings a personal touch to an otherwise faceless business and makes challenges look easy. Anyone can create a new policy, few like Terry can - and will- help you out when you encounter trouble.

If I could go lower than one I would. After leaving a message 3 to 4 weeks ago I decided to call again and actually on a recorded line since It was in regard to insurance claim. Terry the agent did finally get on the phone and matter of fact let me know that yes he did get my message that he made the decision not to return my call as he didn't have time. This is why people go to insurance agent so when they have an issue they have you to Advise them. Not only did you not call me back you admitted to deciding not to call me back and then you were rude to me and didn't answer my questions at all time to retire Terry
