I feel a little bad about leaving this review, because this salon was able to fit me in last-minute before upcoming travel. But when I went to a different salon to ask about fixing the cut I got here, and the owner showed me a photo of the back of my hair, I was upset enough to leave feedback.I walked into Phoenix Rising with hair styled exactly how I wanted it already (just longer than I wanted), showed Rachel a picture of a similar layered style, and asked for 4" off. Leaving the salon, I did not have anything like my previous layers, which had an elegant tapered look; this is an uneven blunt cut with a bit of feathering.I like to let stylists use whatever product they want, because sometimes I find new interesting things that way. This time, I walked out with so much perfumed gunk in my hair that I knew I'd be distracted at my next work meeting, and had to race home to wash it out beforehand (one of the products I didn't love the smell of and can still smell faintly now after two attempts to wash it out). When I see bad reviews for hair salons, I always assume it's in part because the customers are bad at communicating. I'm sure I miscommunicated here, but I haven't had a bad haircut in 12 years, and I don't think I've ever had one this obviously uneven. Everyone has bad days, and I have friends who've gotten great haircuts from this salon in the past, but I probably won't be coming back.Service: Haircut

Rachel has done a great job in touching up and lightening my bangs. I originally went to a salon on Piedmont, but the hairdresser ended charging mean extra $100 than, promised and barely met my needs in terms of the look I wanted. Rachel made it all better, and really cleaned it up. Definitely going back.

if you don't mind a rushed hair appointment then go there. The skill set on haircuts are dated. you get your hair spritzed with a sprayer then you get a 15min haircut. you go home and realize one side is shorter then the other. you are better served at super cuts.

Had such a great experience with Phoenix Rising. They were able to get me in at the last minute with an amazing hair stylist, Raquel, who did a fantastic job on my hair. I felt very listened to & I love my new haircut.

During COVID, haircuts and color were a thing of the past! Once Phoenix Rising reopened, however, I decided to go back. Cynthia, the owner, had all the precautions in place so it felt more than safe. Beyond precautions, I'm always so happy when I leave. Cynthia is a master stylist, and has great "hair vision." (Is that a thing?). Today I'm sporting a new take on my old style and my color is fresh and natural! Go try her out!

I think I may have paid 45 bucks for them to line my neck and trim my ends but saw barely any hair on the ground. Note, most of the revenues are old. I should have looked at that before making an appointment.

First haircut and blowout since pandemic and I've never felt better. COVID precautions are strictly being met so you will feel more than safe and welcome. Cynthia the owner is wonderful as ever and it's great to see business picking up

ATHEENA has been my hairstylist/friend for years! I literally will follow her anywhere. I been seeing her since she was in San Leandro back in the day! Sheesh! Time flies! She's literally the sweetest. She's so ethereal! I love her vibes and you will too. She also offers lash services. Ask about her deals :)

My wife told me to get my haircut there because the place I went to before botched my haircut. Cynthia, who is also my wife's stylist, was great and did a good job fixing the mess. This will be my go to place for haircuts from now on. Highly recommend.

I've been a client of Cynthia Black, the owner of Phoenix Rising, for several years and highly recommend her. She's a very talented hair colorist and stylist and is a warm, fun and friendly person. Cynthia asks for your hair color and style goals prior to her service and will provide her feedback before and during the appointment. I was delighted that Phoenix Rising and other hair salons were able to open again this week after Covid closures. This salon is practicing physical distancing and health safety protocols. Styling chairs are covered with disposable covers for each client, an air filter is in use at her chair, temperatures are taken, and chairs are set up outside for arriving clients. I had only a hair cut today after 6-1/2 months (last appointment was in February!) so that I could consult with Cynthia on how to colorize my new grey hair growth without covering completely. We have a strategy for my next visit. Thanks Cynthia!

Need a wax. Kim is the BEST in the WEST! Cannot wait until this lock-down ends so I can get back to my 6 week routine.

Jasmin is GREAT! She fixed my botched haircut, touched up my roots with beautiful rich colour, blew dry my hair. I was so happy with my new doo and will definitely go back.

I had such a great experience with Jasmin today, look forward to returning. She is very friendly, funny, and took the time to understand what I was looking for in my cut - she pretty much "got me" right off the bat. Throughout the cut, she even provided education about hair styling and maintenance of my hair type... she's very knowledgeable and passionate about her craft, and I learned so much from her in one session! My cut turned out exactly as I wanted, if not better - a perfect A-line medium length bob. Definitely recommend her!
