We loved this place. We went in February 2023 and knew ahead of time that many of the local places were closed and that service would be limited, but we needed a quiet retreat. the grounds are lovely, we only heard one other person and listened to birds and nature. We had booked a private tasting at the Lichen Estate, which is nearby. This was fantastic. the Accommodations at the Madrones were quite comfortable and lovely. We stayed in the Kitchen Room, which was large and commodious. The beds were comfy, the heat was perfect. I would definitely visit again.

Buyer beware: if you book this hotel and cancel your booking, even well before the 21 day cancellation deadline, the hotel will charge you a 50.00 cancellation fee. Not only is their cancellation policy unusually strict - 21 days before the date of the trip to receive a full refund, but it turns out that the so called full refund isn't truly a full refund given the 50.00 fee. That feels like a real rip-off.

Beautiful inn! Great property, really lovely staff! We went a bit off season and midweek so the restaurant was not open, check their hours if you want to enjoy it as well it has very good reviews. The apothecary was a very beautiful and fun add on. Highly recommend!

This place was super cute nestled off HWY 128 as you start to enter the red wood forest. The gentleman who helped me was knowledgeable, friendly and was really excited to share his passion for his bud with me! I recommend trying the Spiritus Mundi and enjoy taking a look at the grounds of this beautiful gem!

Popped in here on a whim after eating at Wickson. The selection was not up to the dispensary in Mendocino, but adequate. Bought some pre-rolls in a nice tin. Worth knowing about if you're in Philo.

This place is a real find. If you are wanting an overnight stop on your way to Mendocino or simply going wine tasting in the Anderson Valley, this is the spot for you. Indian Creek Park is right next door for hiking through the redwoods and several wineries are nearby, including Goldeneye (directly next to it) and Long Meadow Ranch tasting room, on the property. There is also a dispensary, on-site, for those desiring a different type of mind-altering experience. Wickson restaurant (by the reception area and gift shop) serves excellent pizza and appetizers, as well as offering numerous wine options including both Anderson Valley and Iberian specialties. Staff are welcoming and helpful, and Blanche, the house cat, will cozy up to you for attention and pets. The grounds are beautiful, even in the winter with a lack of full vegetation. And then there are the rooms! Some are in a two story building at the front and there are a few that were created from a former house that is on the property. We stayed in The Kitchen (former identity but now a guest room). It is spacious and cozy at the same time. High ceilings, it's own deck, lots of windows. It has two queen beds which are super comfy. Nice bedding and towels, antique wood furnishings. The bathroom and shower are also large with marble floors and a skylight. Malin and Goetz face cleaner and lotion are provided. They include a cold breakfast (yogurt, milk, juice, walnut bread in the fridge and granola and coffee/tea), a microwave and coffee maker. I will definitely return!

I’m in love with this place. It’s an awesome and unique stay in the Anderson Valley with so many vineyards to explore. The restaurant at the Madrones had kind of short hours for us as it closes pretty early, but it was a truly cozy spot with great food, excellent wine and such a great staff (across the whole place, not just the restaurant). What made the Madrones the best was the on-site weed dispensary with excellent products and the sweet cat who roams the place. It’s so picturesque. We stayed at the Brambles and the main resort and loved them both. It’s a sort of laidback luxury that’s hard to find. Definitely planning to return in the near future.

My wife and I have been to the Madrones several times in the past to visit the excellent Wickson restaurant, but we recently stayed overnight for the first time, in the Garden View Room. We loved the whole experience - the room was very comfortably appointed, the setting on the garden was beautiful (more so than was evident from the room photos on the website), and we enjoyed the overall chill vibe. We brought our small dog with us, and we appreciated the dog-friendly room options with modest pet fee. The location in Philo is quite convenient for wine tasting in the valley and visiting Boonville and Hendy Woods. The key thing to be aware of is the relatively low-touch Agriturismo style of the property. It's not like a full-service hotel with lots of staff always available to respond to every need. We knew to expect that going in, and it wasn't a problem for us. We will definitely be back!

Many years ago we stopped for lunch at the Madrones and loved the concept and space. We made plans to come back to the area and stay and finally had a chance to do that this summer. The Brambles is situated a short ( less than 3 minute ) drive from the main property. We stayed in the Back Porch, nestled in a grove of Redwoods. The Back Porch includes a living/dining area, kitchenette and bedroom with en suite bathroom. The kitchen has plenty of space to prepare light meals. The space is stocked with breakfast items including house made granola, yogurt, juice, fruit and bread. The Back Porch is situated further away from 128 so we weren’t disturbed by road noise. My husband is an extremely light sleeper and slept well both nights. Just in front of the Back Porch is a sunny lawn area with Adirondack chairs- a gorgeous spot to read a book and look out at the Redwoods. Over the course of our two night stay we saw deer and fox. This is an ideal spot for an individual or couple looking to get away for restoration. Highly recommend Philo Apple Farm for ciders, juices and jams. Off Spring and Wickson for pizza. Check out Hedgehog Books for new and used books in Boonville and Disco Ranch for snacks, wine and other nibbles. We visited mid week and while options in Philo and Boonville were limited, there were many options for dining, wine tasting and shopping to easily fill two days. We can’t wait to come back!

This is a very special place with a comforting ambiance and delightful sense of seclusion, just what we needed for the start of our NoCal vacay. The handful of accommodations are tucked around a truly magnificent rose garden with hundreds of mature rose bushes in every color imaginable-- what a surprise, what a delight!! That alone will bring us back. But in addition to the gorgeous gardens and pathways, the room itself was comfortable and appealing, the atmosphere secure and quiet, and the patio restaurant had some simple and tasty fare. There is indoor and outdoor dining, a little gift shop and a cannabis dispensary. The proprietors were so kind to gift us with a lovely bottle of local wine to welcome us on the first night of our wedding anniversary trip. What great people! We will definitely return!
