Maggy Hawk Wines Tasting Room
9001 CA-128, PhiloChad was a phenomenal host. We were there during a very rare downpour so everyone was inside, but Chad rolled with the punches and the wine was great. Fellow patrons were also fabulous and there was a great vibe. Highly recommend.

Goldeneye
9200 CA-128, PhiloMost know Goldeneye, whether it be from your local grocery store, wine shop, or just plain word of mouth. I was excited to finally visit the actual facility where they serve some wine that is a bit harder to find elsewhere or only distributed to their club members. The property is located in the beautiful Anderson Valley with stunning views from their back patio. As for the inside of the tasting room, I'd say it's pretty standard, but that is completely fine by me as I am there for the vino! Tasting format is heavily geared towards Pinot Noir as the valley is well know for it based on it's cool climate. All of the wines were superb, there was not one I did not like to be honest! Being out of the usual tourist stricken wine regions nearby offers a more affordable price point, but there are some higher price items on their menu, but well worth it. I'd happily recommend this winery to anyone looking for a spot in Anderson Valley!

Toulouse Vineyards & Winery
8001 CA-128, PhiloReally enjoyed the wine and the tasting room. Cool staff who were friendly. The wine itself was excellent. It's been a while since I've been to a tasting room where I loved the entire flight. We enjoyed the estate pinot enough to walk away with s bottle, along with a bottle of dry riesling. We're going to have to come back again in a few months to see if we love it again so we can consider joining.

Handley Cellars
3151 CA-128, PhiloService was really great and staff was really friendly. Wines though just weren't our style, much more fruity than we typically like (at least Pinot wise). Atmosphere is really nice and relaxing with some great view.

Wickson
9000 CA-128, PhiloWe have eaten here before and it was good. We came again for Easter dinner and, oh my goodness! There has been a staff change in the kitchen and it was a change for the better. Everything was so delicious and creative! We started with a quartet of deviled eggs that I thought was an interesting and cheeky nod to the holiday. Each one was different and beautiful. There was smoked salmon, caviar and I'm not sure what was on the other two but, they were delicious. We also had the Papas Bravas, and a stuffed artichoke that was so scrumptious I didn't want to share but, I did. For our main my husband and me both ordered the lamb shank. Mmmmmmmmmm! I arrived looking beautiful. I gave the shank bone a little tug and I slipped out with no resistance leaving the lamb retaining its shape. That's a good sign! The meat was soft and juicy. The potatoes underneath were velvety. The whole dish was so comforting and tasty. This was our favorite visit to Wickson. The whole place is run by women now and has such a joyful vibe. I think it makes for such a great experience when the kitchen and staff are happy. We felt so welcome and the food tasted like it was made by happy people who love what they do! The only thing that could make this visit to Wickson better was to get a room. Luckily we did! Thank you The Madrones and Wickson! We'll see you again soon!

Roederer Estate
4501 CA-128, PhiloRoederer Estate is one of the three major sparkling wine producers (Scharffenberger and Domaine Anderson being the others) in the Anderson Valley that are owned by the champagne house, Maison Louis Roederer, the producer of Cristal among other things. In my opinion, they produce the best wines of the three, so we stopped by at 11 AM without a reservation for a mid-week tasting. We were the only ones for the hour or so that we were there. The tasting room is currently being renovated, so we sat outside on the patio that overlooked the vineyards. They offered two tastings:Classic Flight for $25Brut MVBrut MV from a magnumBrut Rosé MV2020 Clark Road Single VineyardExtra DryL’Ermitage Flight for $45Brut MVBrut Rosé from a magnum2017 L’Ermitage Brut2006 L’Ermitage Brut Late Disgorged2015 L’Ermitage Brut RoséThey requested that everyone in the party drink the same flight, so we went with the L’Ermitage Flight. It was more expensive, but it was worth it just to try the three wonderful L’Ermitage wines. To be fair, older vintage champagnes (2006) might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was fascinating to taste the effect of aging - think caramel and brioche notes as opposed to fresh fruits. It was getting close to lunch, so we also ordered the eggs mimosa and the lavender honey and goat cheese crostini. Both were delicious and paired very well with the wines.Afterwards, you have the opportunity to not only buy a wide range of library wines from the Roederer Estate, but also from Maison Louis Roederer including several older vintages of Cristal at pretty reasonable prices. We opted to go with the 2006 L’Ermitage LD Brut ($120) and the 2003 L’Ermitage Brut Rosé ($140) because I doubt that we will come across these wines anywhere else.If you enjoy sparkling wines, this might be an excellent stop as you make your way through the Anderson Valley. It will probably be even better when the new tasting room opens too.One last recommendation - go to the bathroom. Really. In order to get to the bathroom, you get to see the wine storage area, the fermentation barrels/tanks, etc. Pretty cool to see.
