Excellent work, I was told they were going to beef up my transmission on my Ford diesel. It's been 18 months since the repair and it's still runs like a timer watch. Thank you Sean.

Had them regear my car, pick it up was leaking fluid, took it back they “fixed” it, turns out it was still leaking, dropped the car off for a 3rd time and when driving home my head gaskets went bad, had to have a the engine replaced. Called them they said there’s nothing they can do. DO NOT EVER GO HERE

While looking for a transmission repair shop in Morro Bay to repai transmission cooling line to auxiliary cooler, i located Gars Transmission in Paso Robles. I talked to John and he indicated that they where busy but he would squeeze me in. Had to have F350 towed to his shop and only waited a few minutes before it was pulled into repair bay. Repair was completed in a timely manner at a fair price. I was more than pleased with complete service provided by repair staff, John and office staff. Highly recommend Gars Transmissions. John: sorry this review tookk to long.Services: Transmission

Honest and honorable people who do great work!! I should NOT have had warranty coverage because I didn't follow the checkup schedule, but Gars stood by their work anyway and paid for repairs!! I'm still kind of in shock.Gars rebuilt my 1996 Dodge 2500 46RE after it failed catastrophically about 18 months ago. During the job, their customer service was excellent. I paid $6500 for a complete rebuild, upgraded torque converter, new catalytic converter, and some electrical diagnostics. I was very happy with their work, and they gave me one of their t-shirts for spending so much!Since they're ATRA certified, all of their trans work is warrantied (if you follow the maintenance/checkup schedule, which I didn't). My van drove like new for about 25k miles before the torque converter started to fail. I took it to a shop on the east coast, and I called Gars when they found brass in the pan. Gars worked with them and paid out about $1300, which they weren't obligated to do! I continue to wear their t-shirt with pride!Services: Electrical

Gar's Transmission has restored my faith in a mechanic shop. This is a family owned business and they treat you like family. Gar's transmission holds themselves to high standards, integrity and honesty. I have absolutely been blown away by the customer service I have received at their shop. I had a minor issue with my truck not shifting perfectly and Sean reached out to me personally to fix the small issue. Sean is extremely knowledgeable and will take the time to talk with you about your needs. Seans sister and John behind the counter are just some of the nicest people you will meet. John left detailed messages throughout the process to let me know exactly where we were at. Just all round home town service!! In my opinion hands-down the best transmission shop on the central coast if not in California. My Dodge 2500 is now a beast and I feel like I could pull a bulldozer up a tree. Thank you so much Gar's Transmission!!!

I've had my truck into gars twice in the last 4 months. The first time it was there almost 3 weeks and when they gave it back to me they said I would have to come back after the holidays to swap out my torque converter for $125. Since then my torque converter went out or something. It's been at the shop for 3 weeks again and they keep asking me about a water pump and oil leak. And they haven't even got it in the shop yet. Best part is in November when they didn't have time to go through my transmission that they installed in 2019 was still under warranty. Now 4 months later it's no longer under warranty and they are most likely gonna charge me an arm and a leg to repair something that should have been covered and taken care of the first time I was in there. Unless you have a lot of money to rent a car for a long time I don't recommend taking your vehicle here. I've already spent more than the trucks worth just on rental cars while my truck just sits in their yard and I havent even gotten the bill yet.

Had my 2006 Ram 2500 48RE transmission rebuilt roughly a year ago. After finding a overdrive direct clutch pack snap ring in the pan I called numerous shops. I ended up driving 200 miles out of my way to take it here. Sean was very knowledgeable on these trucks and made me feel very comfortable on spending good money for a transmission rebuild.

Ok guys. If your transmission gives up in the Paso Robles area and you want a great repair (and not looking for cheap or quick) Gar's is the place. Family run business with a great (well earned) reputation. Very responsive to us and our 03 Ford Excursion. Built a great tranny for towing and helped troubleshoot some after repair issues. Very easy to work with. I'm lucky I found them.

I brought my truck into have the transmission rebuilt. I informed them that the 3rd gear syncros were out and repair those and anything else that was needed. They did only part of the repair. When I called to talk to them about my issue they took my info and said they would have the owner call me back. It has been at least a month and no return call. I do not recommend them,

Took my 2001 Toyota Tacoma V6 3.4L in for a clutch change. I provided all the parts, even the oil and gasket maker. These guys did a phenomenal job. I also had a stripped differential fill plug, and a stripped bolt of one of the 4 that held down my shift lever retainer clip (an aluminum gasket for the shifter). They got the diff plug out with no problem. For the retainer bolt, I asked them ONCE in an email if they could replace that bolt and I forgot to mention it in person when I dropped it off. When I cracked open the shift area to replace a gasket on my transfer case months later, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they HAD replaced that bolt for me, even though I forgot to remind them. That's the kind of stuff that makes you want to go back to a mechanic.I'll be seeing if they'll want to do the rebuild when time comes.Service: Clutches & transmissions service & repair

The Guru of Classic Car transmissions is in Paso Robles, Ca!I took my 1953 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn with a factory four speed GM style hydramatic transmission to Gars for service. The transmission was having what seems to be a linkage problem. This style of transmission is robust, but does have its quirks. Only a seasoned and knowledgeable transmission expert has the skills to work on such a complicated piece of machinery. The experts at Gars quickly diagnosed the problem and executed the repair. The Rolls now operates as if it were new. Best of all the cost was minimal considering the potential for what could have been at a lesser shop that fiddled around until finding the solution. if you have a classic car, with a vintage transmission that needs service, Gars is the shop that can do the work!
