Don’t know how to get started!? Shopped around looking for my 90%. Most everyone was at 22+. Called Steve and he said 20%. Spot was at 30. Walked in and nothing fancy, just business. And what is wrong with that? I mean if Steve was a hot 23 year old female, well then I’d have to pinch myself. Again, nothing fancy but quite unusual that a dealer was selling me 90% $2 back of spot. Get there are he let me count and choose my coins! Say what, normally they throw the bag at you:)! Came home, went through the goods and found some beautiful 65’s and 69’s , went back today and he replaced them with some Franklins. BYW, spot is now at $30.70. He sold me $160 FV at 20 times. Are you serious? Yes I am. Have been jumping in and out for about 10 years and I’ve never have that happened to me. To Steve it was like everyday business, and to me, he assisted me in my journey like no other dealer has! BTW after a few days, and he still sold me $160 FV @ 20 times!!! Get out of here, this shop has been the best to me ever. So, not only could I pick my coins but they offered me an ashtray! He said we are going to be here all day, so take your time!!!

Echo most other comments, smells like cigarette smoke inside the store.
The store sells rare coins, supplies, jewelry, collectibles, and old stuff. There were coins and old paper money bills available for sale.
The store buys coins, paper money, scrap gold, sterling flatware, pottery, fishing equipment, post cards, old photos, and various other items.

I always make sure to drop by whenever I am in town. Great little coin shop in the area. I always leave with something I need for my collection.

I called to see how much they would give me for a certified NGC Silver coin that sells for a least for $45 dollars on eBay. - The Old man sarcastically, told me $15 dollars...so this place is a rip-off ! - Do Not try to sell your collectibles at this coin shop, because they will rip you off -

Some of the reviews made me nervous, but the man is perfectly nice and they seem to pay the highest prices around for gold and silver. Yes, there's a guy in there who's smoking, but it's not as if the place is filled with smoke. I recommend this place.

These guys were great to work with and guided me to get top dollar for my ancient coin collection. I had an offer to purchase my collection from a coin shop in Alhambra. I came to Bob for a second opinion and he thought my collection was worth much more. And had some choice words about the shop that made me the intial offer. He admitted he wasn't an expert in ancient Roman coins so he directed me to an auction house in Orange County. He even made the call to connect me.Long story short, I put my coins on consignment with the auction house and earned 3x what that other coin shop offered me.Bob didn't make a dime off of me but it shows his honesty and wanting to do what's best for the customer. I hope that I can do business with him at some point. In the meantime I wanted to leave a great review because they deserve it.Oh yeah, the comments about the smoke is true. But hey, nobody's perfect. LOL They're honest and great to deal with.

I really like this place, other than smelling like smoke when I leave.
My brother and I have been here several times now. We did several months of research about where to go and decided to visit Universal Coin Galleries.
For the most part, we knew the value of what we wanted to sell, and I believe that helped during negotiations. Knowing something about what you are selling and being able to ask questions about condition and quality let them know you have at least done some homework.
We have worked with Bob and Steve individually and found them both fair and extremely knowledgeable on a wide range of collectibles. Steve is very knowledgeable about the history of Pasadena and Altadena.
During out first visit, Bob surprised us when he valued one of the items we were selling at $200 higher than what our research had led us to believe we might be able to obtain.
Most of the items we had to sell, we received the amount we expected, but we also received higher than expected valuations for quite a few of the items we had under valued.
They are older men from my parents generation, where people said what they wanted to say. If you are someone who has extra sensitive feelings, you should probably find a different place.
During our most recent visit, Steve showed us an old, dirty, used military jacket that a homeless person had just sold while we were entering the store. The homeless person needed some money so Steve bought it from him. It had no value to the store, and Steve said he would take it home to his wife and see what she could do with it. I asked him how much he paid for it, and was blown away, because he paid very, very generously over it's real value. When I asked why he had paid so much, he told me why the person needed the money and why he helped them out. I was humbled because it was a very honorable thing to do, and I knew I wouldn’t have done it.
When it comes to business, they will tell you what your selling is worth, what they are willing to pay you for it, and you can take it or leave. They are fair and friendly. They are a business, so they are not going to pay you above their return on investment valuations.
My brother inquired about investing in some silver and Steve gave him some good advice about what kinds of silver to invest in, how they buy silver, and how they price the silver they sell.
We intend to return to sell additional items.

They were super nice and knowledgeable about the coins. There was an interesting selection and they were very fairly priced. Recommend stopping in here for sure if you’re visiting Pasadena.

My son and I stopped by, and it was a great experience. People were friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming and supportive. They encouraged my son in his numismatic pursuits, let him look through their offerings at his leisure, and gave him great prices on the items he chose. I’d go back here any time, and would recommend this shop for all coin collectors, near and far.

This place really does feel like an old coin shop, they have a good selection of American type coins and all around this seems like a great place for American coins. The big issue is the fact that the owner smokes in the building (when I was there, he was sitting behind the counter smoking a cigarette) which makes it smell like a giant ashtray in there.
