They are very welcoming and can provide good advice on repairs/ work on your model trains. They have a great selection of books and dvds to assist you on your model railroad adventure. They don't have a lot of N scale rolling stock or buildings. Despite the minimal N scale, if that is a scale you are working with, they do provide some basic things like couplers and track to assist you on your journey. For other scale they have a lot of things to get your started or help you continue modeling.

the owner said hi to me so I continued the conversation just for him to tell me not to talk to him until he finished his task? I was already awkward so i wasn't gonna start the convo. That was one of the weirdest encounters i had. It was so cringe i just left lol.

This is one of few model train stores business left in the southland. Bring up my childhood memories about the hobby story, and I used to put small model cars, trains and planes together. Luckily it locates around the corner and the owner is talking very friendly. They have plenty of train sets and accessories in the selection. Highly recommend to train hobby lovers.

Terrible customer service. You will truly feel like a thief shopping here. If you ask a question, you'll get a rude response. Young model railroaders look out! This place will eat you alive and spit you out.

This is a super chill gym. Love the atmosphere and the outdoor machine area. Early morning here is the best time

This shop has a great inventory of scenery and parts, especially for H0 and N trains. If you're looking for super detailing or a specific scenic product, this is a great place to stop by. The selection of actual trains, however, was sparse. I mostly do O gauge, of which there was barely anything, but even the smaller scales had limited inventory. I came in hoping to browse a section of freight cars, but there were very few. Of the tens of train cars, I sadly did not find one that struck my fancy.

Don’t take young train fans here. Very gatekeepy with subpar service.

I visited the shop in April 2023 to help my 10-year-old son gather materials for his school Mission project. We ended up purchasing around $100 worth of landscape materials, plastic roofing, pre-made trees, etc., some of which I was certain we would not use. The employee who helped us informed me that anything we didn't use could be returned as long as we had the receipt and the packaging was unopened. No mention that the refund would be store credit.Cut to yesterday, May 20, 2023, when I came back to return $68 worth of unopened pre-made scale model trees. The same individual who helped us before was behind the counter, and was quick to point out the the refund I was asking for would be store credit only. I responded that he made no mention of the 'credit only' policy on our previous visit, and that I would not have purchased as much material if that policy had been made explicit. He wouldn't budge... and lost a future customer. While I appreciate the range of products available here (which is why this isn't a 1-star review), I concur with previous reviewers that the customer service here is very hit-or-miss and often not very professional. Case in point, I came in a second time not long after our original visit and had to wait over five minutes for someone to pull themselves away from a conversation in the back room to perform checkout duty at the register. Disappointing.

Got my first model trains here 20 years ago. It's exactly how I remember it and it brings me the same joy now as it did then. This place should be a historic landmark.

The Whistlestop has the biggest and greatest selection of model train hobby supplies in the world. If you need it for your layout, it will be here! Plus everything you may not need. Wonderful guys helping other enthusiasts too. Fred, the owner has 40 years under this roof. He let slip that the Gucci patriarch has a huge layout and he has visited. Worth a road trip if trains are your thing.

Way over priced, but I guess when you are brick and mortar you have lots of overhead.
