I have walked by this Johnny Was many times and not stopped in. I used to wear Johnny was decades ago when Cielo was at Kahala Mall and June brought in the line. Their things were always beautiful and so comfortable to wear. Today I stopped in and asked what they might have that I could wear. I'm short, barely 5 feet. Kim took the time to pull several things for me..mid-calf length. Nope, nope, maybe. I tried the maybe on twice. Kim and Poulomi both helped with suggestions on how to wear the dress. They were polite and nice without being pushy. Ok, I ended up with a new dress. Thank you ladies for being nice and helpful. They even gave me a really nice shopping bag that folds into itself!... and a little bottle of water.

The woman gets upset if we return, it's so lame. I guess their store gets dinged for accepting returns? But the return goes through. The Tory Burch store is the same way. One time, I never even got my refund, had to fight to get it. Will never shop at Tory Burch again, buy her products at the big stores instead.

I absolutely love shopping here! Poulomi and Kim are incredibly kind and knowledgeable. I love that Poulomi pats attention to your individual style and does an excellent job of making suggestions. Can't say enough good stuff about this location. I love Johnny Waas, but this is the only store I will shop in because the staff is warm and wonderful.

Fantastic brand, outstanding store. Sophisticated bohemian chic designs, very LA. Signature pieces with embroidery and all ultra comfortable. But what was equally outstanding, was the consistent care and guidance from Poulomi and Kimberley. We had so much fun - definitely a new favorite go to in the Bay Area!

Very helpful and nice sales women. If it is too expensive for you don't go in. Beautiful one of a kind clothing. Fabiola was extremely helpful. If they don't have your size in stock they Fed Ex it for free. There are not many stores left like this. Betty T

As soon as I entered the store, the staff greeted me with happy voices. Their faces were covered by face masks, but I could see their happy eyes were smiling at me. I purchased the most soft and beautiful face masks made in cotton and silk. The staff in the store are amazingly friendly and warm. Thanks, Fabiola and Poulomi for making an ordinary Tuesday preciously beautiful. I look forward to visiting you again for another extraordinary experience. Thank you.

Very strange, confusing and disappointing experience here the other day. I bought something online and because the company allows these to be returned in stores, I looked up their shop policies, which on their site in a big banner-like sign, they proclaim "Our Stores are open ... Welcome!" So okaaay, I make the trek down to Stanford mall, and get there, try to open the door, which is locked. I pull harder on the handle, thinking maybe it's stuck. But nope, it's locked. A shopkeeper from inside opens the door with a mask on (which is a good thing :-), and says to me, "Do you have an appointment?" I'm thinking, "A what?" I'm clearly confused about this, and say, "No." I tell her that their website simply says their stores are now open, which is misleading the customer to think that it's the usual 'walk-in' protocol. And if this is incorrect, they should advertise this as such. She says nothing to this. We have a bit of a back and forth, where she says everyone needs an appointment. I look into the store, which because the front is all glass, I can see nobody is in there. I say, "I need to make a return, which should only take a minute cuz I have the packing slip and ID." She says that I need an appointment, and I plead my case, which prompts her to tell me that she'll ask her manager. Off she goes only to return a minute later to tell me "No," I must make an appointment. The way they're operating makes me think it would be easier and faster to get a minor surgery done. I ask her when is the next available appointment, which turns out to be 35 minutes later. I cool my heels for half an hour, after which she comes back to escort me inside. Again, I'm the only person in this place, which they're guarding like a fortress. I hand over my return and slip. The entire process takes almost 15 minutes. Seriously. No joke. I'm not sure exactly what she and her manager were doing, working at a glacial pace, very odd experience. My husband joked that while were waiting for those 35 minutes, we went next door into Banana Republic, and in 10 minutes, he chose a shirt, tried it on, modeled it for me, and bought it in less time than the time it took Johnny Was to do a simple return, which warranted only for them to scan the barcode and automatically send me a receipt. This, btw., they apparently couldn't generate either. In addition to the email they sent me, I wanted a paper receipt, again this was a no go, proved to be beyond their capacity. Though the woman who initially greeted me was friendly enough, the manager was about as cold as they come. Not sure if she was having a bad day, but no matter: she ought not be in customer service. She cannot make eye contact, couldn't acknowledge me at all, not once, despite that I was the only one there. As for their store and merchandise, very limited meager inventory. I was shocked because their online stuff is so varied, though the fact they get sold out of a simple tee means they need to ramp up their supply. But back to the shop: tiny little place, artfully draped with gorgeous things, but very tiny sampling. Before entering the store, I was eager to hit their sale rack. But the whole experience as so bitter, I wasn't at all motivated to shop there and spend money over there, not to mention that their stuff is expensive. Still, I would've splurged had the atmosphere been good. The strange thing is they acted as if they do NOT want customers there. What with those locked doors and cold, off-putting service. This was in stark contrast to the rest of the Stanford Mall, where all shop doors were open, where they were simply requiring people to wear masks and maybe limiting how many people could be in the store at any given time. All this is totally understandable and justified, given the pandemic times. A gorgeous sunny day, people walking around with melting ice-cream cones ... and there's Johnny Was--sterile, uninviting, austere, cold, uppity 'appo

This review refers to Johnny Was online only. JW behaves like a company that's heading for bankruptcy. It's online sales are disastrously managed. Examples: * Sent a top with a hole in the sleeve that also reeked of perfume. Obviously it wasn't new merchandise * Almost never sent information about when the order ships or when it's likely to arrive * Since the pandemic started, JW seems to have disconnected its inventory from its online ordering system. I placed an order for 3 items. I received one quickly. After about 10 days, an email came saying the second item wasn't in stock. After 3 weeks, an email announced that the third item was also not in stock. * Giving JW one last try, I ordered two more items. Once again, after 2 weeks, an email said that neither item was in stock. So JW, one more customer is no longer doing business with you. This hopelessly bad level of service has ruined my trust in you as a viable company.

Johnny Was wasn't on my radar - think flowy beach clothes for women over 40 - until I was given a gift card from My American Express card for their store. I was at Stanford so I decided to check them out, and found a pair of sunglasses I liked, so I went to the cashier to purchase them. Even with the gift card I was spending about $80, and the store was empty, so despite having worked in retail myself for years I didn't feel like I was wasting anybody's time. The woman at the cashier did not know how to input my gift card, so she called someone else over, and after about 30 minutes of confusion on their end they took down my number and told me they'd call back when they figured it out. They never called me back. I waited around the mall for about 2 hours before I gave up and left. They still have my $100 gift card, which I am also apparently not getting back (and no longer would want anyways now). Super weird experience, and a bummer!

Amazing store with outstanding sales associates. Yes, the clothes are pricey, but they are unique and made extremely well with great fabrics. A lot of one of a kind pieces can be found here. I recommend stopping in while Shida is working, she will help you find just what you need and genuinely cares about her customers. She has a genuine love for fashion and makes the experience truly enjoyable. I do wish they carried more shoe sizes, there is a pair I've been eyeing for a month, but they are more than willing to order your size for you (I just don't want to wait! Plus more time to think about spending money...) I recommend checking out the sale section in the back, try on all you want and have fun!

Johnny Was wasn't cheap but everything they have is extremely flattering if you are into the gypsy traveller, adventurer, citizen of the world look. Boho-chic is no cheap, but any blouse or foulard you get from here will last forever. I have very few pieces but have had for years and never get old (plus that look is always in fashion anyways). When you want to feel like Kate Moss attending one of her music festivals...I can recommend you this store to find similar looks.

Nice clothes, extremely pricey and HORRIBLE MANAGER, Cynthiia. Decided to return all I have purchased within the past 30 days ~$600 for 2 items and never look back. Terrible experience returning a jacket I purchased 2-months ago. Told me there was a 30-day return policy that has NEVER applied in the past. I've spent loads of money in this store and stocked my closet with MOSTLY this brand...but based on today... ...kiss my shopping (in your store) goodbye. Sorry Charlene & Leyla! The two of you are GREAT!
