Edit: Took away stars, I had shirts and a pair of pants waiting for pickup when Mathea moved and the new person said they didn't have them -- zero effort to make it up. I doubt Mathea took them.Great store and experience: Mathea knows her suits and will have you looking your best. As a Stanford researcher in engineering I find myself needing to wear a suit more than I'd expected. Mathea knows the Silicon Valley style and I follow all her advice.

Purchased a suit and shirt and I'm extremely pleased!There's a large selection of fabrics for multiple price points, but the real value to me was in the fitting and style assistance. I'm oddly proportioned, so I can't wear anything off the rack, even with alterations. Made-to-measure suit purchases from popular stores and websites have been hit-or-miss.Hoa helped me choose a fabric that fit my requirements, took care of a bunch of style options/details for me, and most importantly, took the time to get the fit absolutely perfect. I never felt like I was being pushed into a purchase, and Hoa explained how each of the smaller details needed to be changed to fit me. I got the suit and shirt within a month and didn't need any last-minute alterations at all. Everything looks great, but more importantly, the whole ensemble feels amazing to wear and move in, which is something I'm not used to from anything other than gym clothes.The store itself is on the second floor of a small building; I'm not sure if there's elevator access, but the store is clean, spacious, and well lit. Visits are by appointment only.I highly recommend the Palo Alto Hall Madden location for men's dress/professional clothing, even if you're just shopping for work shirts. The price isn't much higher than an off-the-rack price and the fitting adds tremendous value.

My first experience at HM with was underwhelming. The custom suit I was fitted for did not arrive as expected with the first person who fitted me. Luckily, Hoa came to the rescue and fitted me correctly the second time around! The suit arrived on time for the big day and my second experience was pleasant and informative! Highly recommend!

Very good experience with Hall Madden. Everyone is so patient and professional, helping to measure my size and choose fabrics. It took overall 6 weeks to get my three piece suit. And it fits really well. Definitely recommend.

What an amazing experience from start to finish! Working with Lorenzo and Hall Madden makes me want to buy a customer suit once once a quarter.I really appreciated how kind and caring Lorenzo was throughout the entire process. Last summer, before I got married, I wanted to find a shop where I can buy a suit and look the sharpest for one of the most important days of my life.I actually had two weddings, one at a church for close family and one at a country club for extended family and friends. Since the weddings were on the same week, I needed two custom suits; one formal and traditional and the other more fun and personalized.Mathea was exceptionally professional, accommodating, attentive, and knowledgeable about her craft and catered to my needs. She helped me design 2 custom suits. Each suit was designed with every detail that I had in mind. She took dozens of measurements to ensure that my suit would fit my body perfectly. These suits were made in Italy and are very high quality.Mathea and Hall Madden have hundreds of fabrics and design patterns for suit linings, ties, shirts, and pocket squares. You can even add embroidered custom initials onto any item you are designing.She was also accommodating when one of my button-down white shirts was not able to arrive on time. She drove out to my home and personally hand-delivered a backup shirt to ensure that I had a button-down shirt for my first wedding.I highly recommend Mathea and Hall Madden for your wedding.

Do not go here, especially if you're a part of the queer and/or BIPOC community. My partner had a terrible experience with Mathea, which I witnessed. I'm not sure why Mathea has such mixed reviews on Yelp, but my partners experience with her was horrendous and incredibly offensive. Either go to another Hall Madden location, or an entirely different custom suit company. Spend your time, money, and energy elsewhere.

I had the worst experience I've ever had with a business here. Mathea not only failed to provide me with custom suit I was fitted for, repeatedly lied to my face, wasted hours of my time, and left me with no suit 3 days before a wedding I was a part of. I would not recommend this business to anyone. Seeing as Mathea came highly recommended from Hall Madden S.F., I can only conclude that she judged me based on appearance of being a queer woman of color, and thought she could get over on me. full story... 1st appt - measured, picked fabrics and details, paid in full. Mathea told me a 7 week turnaround time was no problem. Nothing spectacular, nothing wrong. I did notice that Mathea seemed hurried, or distracted, not really listening to me and brushing off my questions. I thought she either had mimosas all morning, or was coked up! I called Mathea 10 days out from the wedding, she told me the suit was ready and we scheduled a second fitting. Mathea called 1hr before the second appointment asking to reschedule, stating she was not feeling well. I was a little apprehensive because this pushed my pick-up date to 4 days before the wedding, however Mathea assured me that I might not even need any last minute alterations; and if I did it would be a quick 48 turnaround. I agreed and rescheduled. Mathea showed up late to second fitting, and everything that happened next was unprofessional, baffling, and downright insulting. Mathea instructed me to put on a wrinkled pair of pants that were laying on a stool, and a mis-matched black jacket hanging on the mirror; the began measuring me again. I was SO confused. Why was this suit not pressed and in a garment bag? Why was it black and not navy blue as ordered? Why was it 3 sizes too big? Where was the colored jacket liner ? Stitched initials? Belt loops? Pocket square? Literally nothing was correct. I specifically asked Mathea, "Is this my suit?", and she answered "yes". I was still SO confused. Why are you measuring me all over again like its the 1st appt. That is when I realized that Mathea was blatantly lying to my face, and trying to gaslight me. This was clearly not my suit, but a showroom template; and she was starting from scratch. I asked Mathea again more directly, "Are you sure this is the suit I ordered because it feels like a template and nothing about it is correct ''. Mathea looked me directly in my eyes and doubled down on the lie, not only telling me it was my suit, but also stating that it "just needed to be taken in a little bit" and the tailor had been "messing up on the womens template". I'm sorry but "custom" suits don't come back 3 sizes too big, wrong color, wrong fabric, wrong details, with no customization. Here is where I felt insulted. What judgements was she making about me to think I was d*** enough to believe what she was saying. Mathea was given every opportunity to come clean, yet she chose to stick to lying and repeating catch phrases such as "client satisfaction", "making it right", "complimentary shirts", etc. The fitting ended with Mathea telling me that she would either FEDEX me my suit the next day or drive it to me personally. I was so baffled, insulted, and frustrated, I just said okay and left. After processing what just happened on my hour drive home, I realized that no WAY could I trust Mathea to make good on her word when she had no problem repeatedly lying to me. And, it was impossible for her to produce what I ordered in 24hrs. I sent her a text message telling her I was very disappointed in the service, that I believed she was being dis-honest, and I did not trust she was going to do anything she said she was to correct the situation. She responded via text stating she could make the black template suit work. FINALLY, she admitted she was lying. However, in what world would I want a black suit, when I'm in the wedding party and the color is Navy blue!!! And to try and give me a used template in place if a brand new custom suit.

I had an amazing experience w Mathea at HM in Palo Alto this winter 2022. She made me feel welcomed and i had a great experience I ordered multiple shirts and shoes and pants. They were an amazing quality and came in on time. Mathea literally gave me white glove service and she her attention to detail was impressive.Great place. Great service.
