This was my third time at carmax and sadly I was disappointed by my experience. I went to the palmdale location in CA. I felt as if they were just trying to get rid of me. I was there all day. No offer of food we were starving. They kept trying to get us to come back. Even the manager wasn't helpful. Not personable at all. The only redeeming quality was the young lady at the end named Helen. She was helpful and offered us vouchers for dinner. I don't think I will return to carmax...

Where do I start they helped us get in to a car but the first car had transmission problems and the driver seat was not latch the second car started to shake going past 55 mph and had us sitting and waiting and till the Insurance company was closed so we couldn’t get a rental

I found myself at this random CarMax because of a check engine light which came on in my very brand new to me car after a night or two in Palm springs california. So I traveled into the hinterland until I can could find a CarMax that was open... because, apparently, rich people don't like to get their car serviced on the weekend so no CarMax service department was open in SoCal on the weekend.
Monday morning nearing 10 am i entered the Palmdale CarMax and had over the course of the next 2-3 hours one of the best customer experiences of my life. After I explained to Laura Cortes, the customer advisor in the service department, that I had bought a car at CarMax in Nashville and was road tripping home to seattle, Laura graciously offered to have the text look at my car for the check engine light diagnosis, because although they were booked up she understood that I could not delay my trip home to Seattle.
Laura arranged for a Lyft ride to take me to and from the local mall, and she arranged to reimburse me for my lunch there, up to $15. What could have been a very stressful day suddenly turned into a little vacation from reality, and I was reminded of why I buy every car I've owned in the last 9 years from CarMax.
Joshua in the service department was also very helpful. Robbie and Samantha in the business office were exceptionally good at processing my reimbursement for lunch, and everyone there treated me like family. This is why I consider CarMax to be Church. My perspective may be colored by the fact that I am a chaplain in seattle, but I believe it's correct that CarMax maintains a highly ethical business practice and that they try every day to live up to the hype.
Should you ever be in Palmdale and have need of a car please visit Laura Cortes in the service department and ask her who to speak with in sales so that she can direct you to the right person. Trust me, she has pulse of that store under her fingers and she knows what to do to fix any service issue. She's amazing, talented, and very competent at her job even at a incredibly young age. Beyond that, Laura is absolutely deft at partnering with the other staff at CarMax to meet the needs of CarMax customers, EVEN WHEN THE CUSTOMER BOUGHT THE CAR AT DIFFERENTOCATION.
Today's experience in Palmdale confirmed for me that CarMax is a truly great brand, but also that people like Laura, Joshua, Robbie, Maria, and Samantha add tremendouslyvalue to that brand.

This place is horrible I took my daughter to buy a car told them I needed to find something the day we went and that I had 20k cash to pay and they took my # told us to go look outside for cars and that someone will call me in about 10/15 min so we looked around waiting and nothing so we decided to leave past by the lobby all employees were there conversating no other buyers in sight they looked at us pass by and leave and never called us!

No dirty sales tactics here and no pressure, plenty of vehicles and options, total freedom of choice, they will even transfer a car from another branch for you to see and drive, and with no obligation to purchase. If you are interested in car buying, there's no better place in town.

When you go to this place pay attention to the car you want. We were there 7 plus hours. We had a car we were going to buy but it had a nest of a bird or rat. And another vehicle that was making a noise. The manager asked us to let her know what it was so she could check it. Don't they check them before selling a car? I guess not because she the manager also told us we could buy the vehicle with the nest and have the mechanic check it for us and if it had issues we had 10 days to bring it back. So that means we have to pay for a mechanic just to see if there were any live animals or dead animals inside the engine, come on. Also, it seems the business dept doesn't know how to do paperwork. Eric did not do the job correctly. WE WERE THERE A LITTLE OVER 7 HOURS. In the end, we were not able to purchase the car with the animal nest because of Eric. the manager wanted to sell the car back to us. like how after Eric screwed up. For 7 hours I was in pain. there were times I wasn't able to walk did they care no. even opening the restroom door was hard for me. did they care no? it was business. I was crying when I left this spot because of pain. but their customer service is HORRIBLE. I had a walker you can tell I am disabled but remember this place cares about selling not about the person

I recently purchased a car from CarMax. After poor experience at a different car dealer, it was refreshing to meet Idris at Carmax Palmdale. He helped me through a car purchase from beginning to end, with all the paperwork, and was very patient. As I was from overseas there were delays with insurance/payment etc but he held the car for me, no problem. Thank you for the great service, if you go to CarMax Palmdale, ask for Idris!
