Stephen’s March 7 lecture at PhotoOp 20 in Salt Lake City was impressive and inspiring. The history and depth of his work in digital photography over the last 25 years are formidable. His eye for beauty and knowledge of the technical aspects of photography are prodigious. I never would have known that wearing a gray shirt while looking at computer screen would improve the color balance in my images. And there were many tips and takeaways from the lecture that will improve my photography. Thanks to Canon Explorers of Light for supporting the PhotoOp 20 program.

Stephen's color printing workshop helped me tremendously in deepening my understanding of how to most efficiently optimize printing images. Stephen's teaching style is most patient and very professional. I highly recommend this class to any one interested in taking their images to the next level.

I have been an amateur "struggling" photographer for 20 years. I have taken at least 6 beginning thru advanced photo classes. I have really tried to put it all together in a way that made me feel good about my photography.....just to make me feel good. This is the first class where the teacher actually tied together photo taking, photoshop (in a way that I could understand), and printing in a professional manner. Amazingly it was just one teacher, Stephen, and he was clear, articulate, patient (even with me), and extreme helpful and available. My next class with be with Stephen again...because he just makes me a better photographer.

I just took Stephan's workshop on printing, I found it to be a very well thought out class, Stephan's calm and understanding teaching style was much appreciated by the students that were at varying degrees of knowledge. I personally had never opened Photoshop, but am proficient at Lightroom. Stephan was very methodical on showing us the capabilities of PS and how to use it to make better pictures. I have constantly had trouble printing at home always having to dark of prints versus what I saw on the monitor, i used to waste so many sheets of paper to try and get that perfect print. Stephan showed us how to get around that obstacle and what tools we need to be able to make great prints. I am happy to say my prints are coming out the same as on the monitor! I highly recommend taking his workshops, I will be taking more in the future.

Stephen is an incredibly talented photographer and master printer. His workshops are legendary and he is considered by his peers to be one of the best educators of his craft. He teaches photography classes and workshops on many different topics including Fine Art printing as well as location photo shoots. More than anything, Stephen is a wonderfully sweet and creative guy who makes his students feel comfortable and relaxed for a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

I should have known that making the trip across the county to Pacifica would be worthwhile to learn Fine Art Digital Printing. Stephen Johnson has been working with pioneers in digital photography from the beginning, and being located adjacent to Silicon Valley has afforded him access and insights into this world as a photographer, teacher and technician. I took my digital inkjet printing to a whole new level after spending four days in Stephen's teaching studio learning about color management, consistent workflow across my devices & software, software printing controls, intricacies of various color spaces, viewing light, and most importantly - the making and managing of paper-specific printing profiles. Also, Stephen is just a very nice person to work with. The course was very well structured and he kept to his learning outcomes, while also managing student questions and requests. You won't be disappointed.

I was extremely fortunate to have attended Stephen's digital printing workshop this past weekend. The breath of knowledge and care shared with the class was absolutely wonderful....inspiring and exciting. Stephen is a wonderful teacher and master printer. He is exceptionally patient and articulate in Making sure to all questions are answered and provides and exceptional road map to successful confidence in printing that one can take home with them when they leave. If you have been thinking of attending this workshop...stop, and just sign up. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from a genuine teacher

Just finished a classroom workshop, "Image Editing Intensive" and it was! I was a bit leery of taking on four full days in a row of Photoshop, but it was worth it. I have primarily been a Lightroom and Nik user. I have consistently heard the message that Photoshop is the place to be if you are a "serious" photographer so I spent many hours with online tutorials, downloaded instructional packages, read manuals, and attended field photography workshops that had some processing with Photoshop. None of these helped me to see Photoshop's place in my workflow except for some minor functions. Steve has forty years of experience in all aspects of photography and thoroughly understands all the tools that are available to photographers and how they were developed. He also has spent many years honing his teaching skills. This is far more than a Photoshop how-to course. Steve explains his own aesthetic and how it informs his use of Photoshop. He explains the technical reasons for his processing decisions and how they preserve the maximum amount of data and further processing choices. The class helped anchor many of the skills I had begun to develop, and gave me a clear idea of how Photoshop could fit in my workflow.

Just completed my second workshop with Steve and already signed up for a third. I took printing and image editing workshops and loved them both. Steve is amazing-- he has the depth of knowledge of a true expert and the patience and sensitivity of a great teacher. He is also extremely receptive to feedback and eager to make adjustments based on students' needs. After taking digital photography classes from several teachers, I can say there is simply no one better to teach you digital photography than Steve.

Since Steve is an expert on photoshop and camera raw, and because he happens to live very nearby, I signed up for 20 sessions of individual tutoring. He is such an expert that he is able to explain almost anything about photoshop... in very simple terms that even I can understand. He will do it on my laptop, and then watch as I practice doing it myself. He is extremely patient and seems to enjoy teaching. Also: he is a wonderful landscape photographer and you can visit his studio to see the very large, detailed prints that he has for sale,
