Prints Old and Rare is a long-standing fixture on the peninsula and one of my favorite places to visit near San Francisco. Absolutely would recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area.

Very personable owner (has been doing business with prints for an estimated 50 years) and kind, helpful assistant showed us the enormous collection throughout the warehouse, they specialize in geographical prints both original and reproductions but carry many other types. I loved it and would go back, the place and people have lots of character. Drawers full of prints available but they lack a place to be seated and examine the prints which I thought they could use. I still recommend visiting however.

Excellent store - the selection of old books, maps, and newspapers is incredible and the whole collection of maps and newspapers is listed on the stores website. The owner of the store is also extremely nice and helpful. This place is definitely worth the visit, especially if you like history or are a collector.

Tucked near the end of a little industrial section not far off the 1, this little shop deals in prints and maps, and books. The books are a little challenging to browse given the cluttered nature of the shop, but I found several gems: Hutchinson's "Mega Brain," Hubbard's "Self-Analysis," and the movie tie-in "Conan the Barbarian" by de Camp and Carter. The price was extremely reasonable. Who knows what a little more time would yield! The friendly staff member told me that they list their stock on Amazon, AbeBooks, and so forth, so my guess is they get more Web traffic than foot traffic. I did not delve at all into the maps and prints, which appear to be wondrous. Worth a peek for the true book hound who's willing to go a little out of their way.

I was looking for a very special map as a present for my father's upcoming birthday. I heard about Prints Old and Rare from an old friend in San Francisco. What a treasure trove I discovered -- not only the map I was seeking, but two prints that I know he will love. The people are extremely knowledgeable, really know their history. The owner was very nice to work with and the prices were very reasonable. I'll definitely go back when I'm looking for that special gift. They have a terrific website which In would recommend to someone looking for maps and prints.
