Stayed three nights in the balcony room - an absolute dream way to spend our 25th anniversary. Location is quiet and right near the water. Breakfast is amazing. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Green Gables Inn was absolutely fabulous! Yes, it was expensive, but definitely worth it. The location was great- within walking distance of many attractions and right across the street from the ocean. I loved sitting in the common area to eat breakfast or just hang out. There were often harbor seals playing in the water. There was plenty of free street parking. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and afternoon cookies were great. They also serve wine and cheese in the afternoon. My niece and I took this trip as a gift for her graduation. Her name is Lacy, so we booked the Lacy Suite. The room was beautiful. It had huge windows, lofty ceilings, a fireplace, pocket doors, and all of the old charm from an 1800s home with all of the amenities you would expect from a hotel. It is beautifully renovated. I would love to go back in the off season when the butterflies overwinter in Pacific Grove!

5 star experience! We stayed in the Balacony Room (1) and couldn’t have loved it more! You are overlooking the ocean across the street and it is the most stunning view of Pacific Grove! The location is right next to a 18 mile trail called Monterey Bay Costail Trail and will take you through to Cannery Row and the Aquarium (12-15 minute walk) or you can take the trail the other way (towards Lovers Point) and continue on the path until it ends near the Beach at Spanish Bay for the most gorgeous coastal views! Typically I never like to spend time in a hotel room and yes technically this is a B&B but I found myself wanting to come back to this room and chilling with a glass of wine and just listening and watching the waves crashing onto the rocks, it was magical to me!
They do have an excellent breakfast and wine and cheese selection that I was also racing back for each evening! I couldn’t recommend this place enough!
Our room did have a separate bathroom across the hall and it was private (just for us) and I see people leaving reviews about it but it was in the details of the room and honestly it was a gorgeous and big bathroom and I actually liked that it wasn’t in the room because sometimes your partner can really stink it up, so I really appreciated that it was private and not in our room!
Anyway, I found it hard to leave this little slice of heaven and would highly recommend this as the perfect place to stay! The staff was also very helpful and kind! They wanted to make sure our stay was beyond expectations and it truly was!
We came the end of April/first days of May 2024. The sea otters had their pups and they sun bathed on the beach directly in front of the inn. Also we did see a whale twice from the view from our room!

The Green Gables Inn is one of our new favorite places in Pacific Grove, and the area in general. We will definitely stay at GGI in the future!

This our second time staying here and the first since the renovation of the inn. So let's get started.
We stayed in the Sandpiper again. This is listed as an ADA room. It is to an extent. The room is nice the renovations are nice. The bed is lower and the pillows and mattress are very comfortable. The bathroom did not get an upgrade. It still has the tall jet tub that may not work for some who have step up issues. There are hand rails for sitting and turning into the bath. Most rooms I have seen that have gone ADA have gone to walk in showers with a seat and some with assists. My daughter stayed in the room next to this one and it did have a walk in shower. Room amenities were nice as well. The fireplace and thermostat heat were nice.
For ADA, there is still no access to the main house via ramp so mobility is needed. This is too bad as the views from the dining room are beautiful.
Breakfast. Breakfast was wonderful every day and changed. From Mexican eggs and potatoes, to quiche and pancakes. Oatmeal, granola, baked breads, sourdough toast, wheat toast muffins, cereal, bagels, oat milk, milk, tea, just a bunch of yummy. If you have dietary restrictions like my wife, no worries, just talk to the staff. They made egg white scrambles for my wife.
In the evening, the wine and cheese with salami and crackers was nice. If you are not a wine drinker, there are mineral waters, coke, and diet coke. These are also available all day.
Staff. Amy, Lis, Carla, Lia are wonderful.
Nearby activities: Cannery row, The Monterey Bay Aquarium within walking distance. Fishermans Wharf. The Customs House. Old Monterey. Pacific Grove, Pacific Grove History Museum.
Safety: Very safe. Very touristy.
Walkability: Easy walks to Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Fisherman's Wharf and old Monterey. To Pacific Grove and Lighthouse point.

My husband and I spent two nights here. The property has been recently renovated and everything is beautiful. The common areas and breakfast room overlooking the ocean are stunning. We watched otters play and dolphins swim by at breakfast and happy hour. The wine and cheese was great, and so was the breakfast. We stayed in the balcony room which has amazing ocean views. We slept with the windows open listening to the ocean. My only complaint is that the private bathroom for this room is across a shared hallway which is pretty inconvenient and awkward.

We have stayed before. It was disappointing this time.
Rooms: the bed was old, lumpy and hard compared to our last visit. The window frame was off the hinge and the heating inadequate. the decor was updated to modern, there should be antique style furniture to compliment the Victorian feel. it was ugly.
Food & drinks: very disappointing. the quality and quantity has declined. the wine hour had a sad looking cheeseboard and breakfast had greasy dripping potatoes, cold coffee in a carafe, dried out breads and little selection.
Noteworthy details: The dining area remodel was cramped, ugly and cold. Oversized chairs were comfortable but took up so much room you could barely get around if anyone was sitting in them. The modern decor Everywhere did not compliment the beauty of the architecture of such an historical house. Sad.

We had a relaxing extended weekend here, during the off-season, which was wonderful. Very quiet since it was not summer (our preference). Breakfast was great (Richard, one of the chefs, kindly accommodated an allergy for our party). Location is right in front of coastal bike/walk path, which was amazing to enjoy as there is no gym on-site. Our party had one couple in the carriage house and another in the main house. We would recommend the main house (Jennifer Room) over the back house (Carriage House), though there are pros/cons for each of the spaces. Bikes available for residents, which is a nice touch. Enjoyed the living space which faces the ocean — great views all around. Would stay here again, in the main house.Rooms: Our party had one couple in the carriage house and another in the main house. We would recommend the main house (Jennifer Room) over the back house (Carriage House), though there are pros/cons for each of the spaces. Beds are softer in main house. Environment is quieter in back house.Noteworthy details: I would not bring children here.

Cons :The website photos would have you to believe the house is on the beach ; it is across the street, and the cross walk is far from the hotel. If you have a dog you are not allowed in the house you see online . You will be staying in the barracks behind the main house .$600 a night , no beach access , just a short trial along side the ocean. No elevatorPros:Cheese and crackers and beverages in evening.Partial ocean viewGreat breakfast ; brought to room since dogs are not allowed in the house .Room has fireplace

Wife and I celebrated our anniversary with five nights at the Green Gables Inn. We were extremely happy with the entire experience. There are two buildings on the property, the main front house with a wonderful sitting & small dining area below and a few rooms above. Also a rear building with three floors. They are both older structures but have been recently remodeled, and feel nice, new and very welcoming. Parking is on-street but was never a problem. Our room was immaculately clean and very well laid out. Bathroom had two sinks, a stand up shower, a jetted bathtub and a separate toilet room. Bed was very firm but comfortable. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Food at breakfast and happy hour was fresh, home made and very good.Location was central to everything we wanted to do in Monterey and Carmel. Loved being right on the water and walking/biking trail. They have two OK bicycles available for use for free. You can walk across the street to the Monterey Penninsula Recreation Trail for excellent walking & bike riding for miles. The Only negative comment / suggestion would be to get a top floor location as we could hear every movement of the guests in the room above us.We would for sure return. Highly recommended!

Beautiful and quaint. Located across the street from the ocean. Walking distance to many places. Clean and spacious rooms. Would definitely stay again!

Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Pacific Grove, the Green Gables Inn is a charming escape that captures the essence of coastal living. During my recent stay, I had the pleasure of experiencing the epitome of relaxation in The Balcony Room. From the moment I stepped into the inn, I was greeted by the warmth of the staff and the timeless charm of the Victorian-era architecture. The Green Gables Inn exudes a sense of tranquility, making it a perfect retreat for those seeking a peaceful getaway. The Balcony Room, in particular, surpassed all expectations. Opening the door to this well-appointed haven, I was immediately drawn to the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean from the private balcony. The room had more than enough space for 2 with a comfortable king-sized bed and a twin bed near the windows. (the bed was raised so not sure if it would be suitable for young children. The bathroom was across the hall but private for our use only. The water took a little time to warm up but that was expected due to the age of the house. One of the highlights of my stay was waking up to the sound of crashing waves with panoramic views of the ocean. The Green Gables Inn offers afternoon wine, cheese & snacks as well as a well rounded breakfast in the morning. The inn's common areas, including the beautiful garden and inviting sitting rooms, provide additional spaces for relaxation and socializing. The Balcony Room had the best view. There were other rooms but with partial views and some rooms with no views so select carefully. They also also dog-friendly rooms too. The room was a bit on the expensive side but considering your across the street from the ocean it was worth the cost. We stayed at the end of October and the room was a bit cold so we used the heater and it worked well.In conclusion, the Green Gables Inn, and specifically The Balcony Room, met our expectations. Whether you are seeking a romantic getaway or a peaceful retreat by the ocean, this charming inn is a gem on the Pacific Grove coastline.
