as soon as i knew i was going to be in berkeley, the first thing i thought of was ”i need to go to sleepy cat books again!” :) it is simply the warmest and coziest little indie book shop that feels like being wrapped up in a blanket with a hot cup of coffee. if no one stopped me, i could spend hours browsing the impressive postcard and sticker collections, as well as the very skillfully curated staff pick tables! definitely a must visit if you are in the area and want to get a bit of an escape amidst all of life’s chaos as both the owner and lyla are very sweet and welcoming :)

Small selection, staff NOT friendly at all, not worth ur time, go to Moe’s or Pegasus or Half price books instead.

Cute little book store down the street from Moe's Books run by Lyla the cat & her owner, who are both soft-spoken. Had fun browsing thru the extensive postcard selection.

I love this bookstore !
When you walk in the atmosphere is so friendly and warm, I just love it. The owner and his cat (who is in the store) are very friendly and sweet.
Good selection of books but I personally like looking at the art prints. Perfect place to go to chill at during a rainy day. Highly recommend!

The place feels so gentle and as if I got up from my bed to then pet my cat and return to cuddle up with a great book. They had good recommendations and decently priced used books. But of course this would not be a good review of Sleepy Cat Books without mentioning the adorable rescued cat who is the real draw of it all :) worth going to nab a photo with her and the trademark bookmark!

What a serene and charming bookstore! It is so quiet and cozy inside, and I felt like I could stay in there for hours…I honestly didn’t want to leave lol. There’s a great selection of books and postcards, and the owner and Lyla (the store cat) are so kind and sweet!! I will definitely be coming back as it has become my favorite bookstore. I recommend for anyone to give Sleepy Cat Books a visit.

Despite their hours being clearly posted, they had multiple impromptu “be back later” signs up every time we tried to visit.
We would walk away for an hour or so to give whoever was working time to get back/get it together, but that clearly didn’t work.
Two stars because the place looks cute and has cats (allegedly).

Very reasonable pricing of books, wonderfully wide range of genres and topics, and fantastic staff picks. The owner has a very calming presence, and the shop's atmosphere is very relaxing. If I could give five stars to the sleepy cat herself, I would. Lyla is such a cutie. This is now my go to book shop.

A small yet mighty bookstore. It has a great selection of books despite its petite size. They have a range of self help, fiction, philosophical, poetic, and nonfiction books to select from. The owner is very nice and he has a cute cat that you may pet with his permission. He also has used and new books to choose from. Their used books are cheap and the prices are fair. I usually leave with $20-$40 worth of books. The layout is reminiscent of a bookstore in a movie, and it's so cozy and welcoming. Definitely wished it was open when I was still a student.

What makes an excellent Indie bookstore? It's in the name. Sleepy Cat Books was something I happened upon while adventuring in Berkeley. You should adventure too.Happily I found a copy of the international bestseller, The Travelling Cat Chronicles. I finished it yesterday. If you have not read it, do! For me it was as if I was revisiting my time in Japan.It's as if the bookshelves know what you are looking for and provide the answer. It is important for me to spend dollars when I am in another city. How fortunate I feel to be introduced to this shop.

I have never been to the US nor the Sleepy Cat Books but I had a chance to see a picture with a cat sleeping by the window made me love this bookstore so much. Hope one day I can visit your bookstore physically kkkk.
