Wish I would have read reviews before renting. Total scam. Charging for gas when we filled right down the street. I usually always take pics when returning but the guy said I was good so I had left before doing so. Not that I would get ahold of anybody even if I did though. Guess this is the world today! Shameful, just charge the price they need for the car to begin with instead of scamming for gas and every other unthinkable charge.

I filled my car and returned it to them on time. The lady who accepted the car checked everything and agreed the tank was full and there was no damage. A week later a charge of $33 showed up on my credit card. They are claiming that the tank was not full. I filled the tank from a gas station just down the road to avoid this. Avoid payless. They do not answer the phone. This is theft. I will file a complaint with the DMV and other regulatory agencies in California, This is theft.

Zero stars. Be aware that unlike some places, Payless doesn't do a walk around of the cars to check for damages before you chance lot. These people are SCAM ARTISTS.The car I received had a bad battery and had to be jump started 2 days in a row. No one would answer the phones so this can be reported. I let them know in person upon drop off, spoke to 2 managers and they decide to give a partial refund to appear in 3-5 business days.I called 10 days later when no refund was received and customer service apologized and again said it would appear in my account in 3-5 business days. After the call, they fraudulently charged $10 to account that eventually went through!!!!! I had to call my bank and report them AND STILL NO REFUND!Avoid this place at all costs. The cars are raggedy, calling customer service is frustrating and they representatives are always confused if you ask something off their script and they will do what they want to your credit card.

Took over an hour to get a car. Employees are so slow and dont even try to make the process go faster. The line is never short because the employees take so long to complete the process that the line just increases. They keep trying to promote unnecessary upgrades and add more and more fees. When we finally got to the counter the employees computer did not work and we had to wait while he restarted it. The employees are so incompetent and slow. They take AT LEAST 20 minutes just to get one person a car. There were no cars available even though we reserved one ahead of time. They offered us a minivan or convertible but of course they charge more for the convertible. The van itself did not look bad but on the inside it smelled terrible, as if something had died in it. We bought air freshener, but it barely made a difference.

Can I give zero stars?I travel weekly to this area so sometimes i have to take what's available. These cars have way too many miles on them. 50K? You have made your money- buy new ones! The new car lots are full at the dealership so please dont blame Covid.The service is slow- plan for 20 mins at the counter. Today no computers- so the women was handwriting everything. No issue there but she did not seem to have any sense of urgency. I had to use another carrier but since it was last minute- I paid a 50% prem for it.

After I returned car, and being told all was good, claimed I left some liquid in car. No leaks in bag and did not consume beverages in vehicle. Charged extra $125.00 after I left airport. They say they have photos, but could not produce. Used my distance from airport since would cost more to prosecute snipe charge. Dishonorable business, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere for car rental.SHOULD BE A ZERO RATING!

I rented a car online to pick up at Denver airport and specifically asked about extra insurance. I had paid for additional insurance online and asked for more when I picked up the car. I was caught in a hail storm and there was damage to the car. I called Payless and spoke to 5 people, none of who knew what to tell me to do "just return the car". Needless to say, they denied coverage and automatically charged my credit card nearly $400 for damages. I've placed a claim with the additional online insurance company who require a copy of the incident report from Payless. You guessed it - they are not responding to my request for a copy of their incident report. NEVER use Payless for a car rental - walk or take a bus.

DO NOT use this company. They charge a $250 deposit for old and damaged vehicles. The headlights were so dim I had to use the bright lights at night just to see. There was literally a hole in the passenger side floor board. They will not return your deposit for 7-14 days after you return the rental car without any issues (aside for the mess you pick up). However, I just got an invoice that said a deposit wasn't obtained so presumably it will be returned when the guy said at drop off, 7-14 days or when my bank finishes the dispute if they try to not return the deposit. I will NEVERRRRR rent from them again regardless of the price. I will pay $100 more per day for a reputable company before I'd ever book with them again.

Will never rent here again or refer to this company. We left two empty plastic water bottles, empty paper cup, one empty plastic bag and empty golf ball box in car and food crumbs on the floorboard. Two receipts shown in their photos were actually Payless receipts from other prior customers that were already left in the car and not ours. When I turned car in I gave three unused water bottles and Gatorade bottles to attendant for him to drink to be kind on a hot day. Asked him where trash can was so I could throw out the few trash items in the car. He told me not to worry about it. Nothing on their contract that says I can’t leave some trash items to be thrown out. No sign at drop off that says you must clean all trash items out of car. No warnings whatsoever. A few days later they sent me photos after I turned in car saying they want to charge me for cleaning. Car was not full of trash. This is a money grab and I am not paying. Also, as an attorney I can tell you they do not mention trash left behind in the contract and the contract exempts normal use, wear and tear. Our two week use and the way we left the car is conforming with this. We left behind a few items of trash which I offered to throw out but was told “not to worry about it” by their own employee. Nothing was soiled, stained or torn. No half eaten food in the car or liquid left in the cup. All it required was a trash can and vacuum which is what they do with every car returned.

Didn’t have the 15 passenger van that we reserved over a month before for a funeral service so the older family members didn’t have to drive but was told at pick up they only had a 12 passenger van and they gave very little difference in price adjustment. Van was dirty with a used tissue shoved in the A/C vent and windows streaked because they didn’t have time to clean it. Very disappointing since we reserved it a month ahead of time.

If someone rents a pickup truck from Payless Rentals, know that you require two forms of government identification. They failed to provide this information in their terms or the reservation confirmation. I had to wait almost 2 hours to get the 2nd form of ID. The staff and Management need more training in customer service.

Theifs!!!! They took the payment from Priceline. Charged me again as a walk in customer! Phone number on the website is bogus no one ever picks up. You guys cheat people of their hard working money. Shame on all you guys! POS!

I rented a car within 17 minutes the tires going 70mph on the freeway. I pulled over immediately and replace with spare tire and came back, i was helped personally and told i would get an exchange and not be financially responsible for it. I was told i was not responsible by 2 employees and then during the weekend I got damage claim email and when i came in Roy told me I was financial responsible and that he can't help me get employees name
