We were rudely yelled at for trying to find a place to park.
The studio is in the back of someone’s house so there’s that. Our class was held in a garage. There is very limited parking.
Overall the pottery store and the people who work there are nice but it’s not an ideal location for a studio

Fantastic . Recommend a weekday class which allows more hands on instruction. Learned the history of pottery in the region. A great class with shipping for out of town visitors

The customers park on our property and block our view from on coming traffic. We have asked them numerous times to please stop blocking our view. One of us will get hit it’s going to happen and maybe then the see the severity of the problem

Great place to learn or perfect your pottery skills whether a novice like me, or experienced. Very reasonable rates, helpful people, and an inspiring setting.

We had a great time at Firestick! Really talented staff and awesome to see the advanced work that they have on display and for sale as inspiration before the class. They were very hands on and helpful. Took the class with my six-year old who had a great time and loved learning about the pottery wheel. We used the option for staff to finish the pots and glaze them, and then they were shipped to us. They turned out even better than I expected, and it was like Christmas for my six-year old opening up the package when it arrived. Highly recommend. Thanks!

I had a great time playing with Clay.
I made 3 small shallow bowels, which was harder than you'd think.
They also had beautiful succulents

Mixed rating because I had a very mixed experience at this studio. My husband and I absolutely love Ojai and travel there often. On one such trip, we decided to take a beginners class at Firestick. That experience was great. Upon arriving to the cozy studio, we were given a tour of the facility by the owner, which included the kiln and glazing section, as well as the gallery of work done by some of the members. Our teacher Esteban was attentive and helpful-- he checked in with each student consistently throughout the 2 hour class and made individual suggestions as we went on. The beginners class allows students to make up to 5 pieces each (a good deal at $50 per person), and at the end of the class you can choose which ones you'd like to be baked in the kiln for an additional $15 a piece. We were told that the studio could glaze them for us, or, that we could come back once the pieces were baked and take a glazing class and do them ourselves. I asked our teacher if I would be able to glaze them vase I made in purple (my favorite color) and he gave me an enthusiastic yes. My husband and I were pumped. We each purchased two of the pieces that we made in class with the intention of returning and doing the glazing class together at a later time. That was a great experience, and we left the studio looking forward to coming back and finishing our pieces. Unfortunately, our second experience at the studio was not a good one. We went in on a Monday after a long weekend and were (eventually) greeted by an employee named Jen, who did not seem at all happy to see us. She immediately told us that she was busy and asked if we could wait a for her to help us. Sure. I'm not sure what it was that she was busy with, as she just seemed to be walking around the studio, but eventually she made an attempt to look for the pieces that we had made in our previous class. She asked us three times if we were sure of the name that we had signed our pieces with. We were sure. On the third time she finally found them. She walked us to the back of the studio, where they do the glazing, and almost immediately told us that the majority of the colors on the wall weren't available. The choices we had were like an ugly, brownish color, sort of muddy blue, and a weird gray shade that no one would ever want to paint anything with. When I inquired about the purple, she immediately told me that the color was ugly, and didn't work well in the kiln, and then told me that I couldn't use it. Her rudeness and short temper didn't just extend to my husband and I, she was training a girl who I could tell felt anxious by the way that she was interacting with us. The trainee tried to intervene and be helpful at a couple points, but was basically shushed by Jen, who I saw shoot her a very dirty look after she commented on the piece I was glazing. Jen was also curt and rude to another employee who asked if she could help him with some thing the following day. She responded that she would be busy teaching a class, and couldn't do it. When he pointed out that, the "class" that she would be teaching would only have one student in it, she commented that she "still had to teach" and couldn't be bothered. She rushed us through the experience and made us feel burdensome and uncomfortable. Stopping at the studio was the last thing that we had planted do on our way out of town, and this interaction with her honestly put a cloud over our entire weekend. If we hadn't already paid for the pieces in advance, I wouldn't even bother to go and see how the glazing came out. If you do decide to go to the studio, make sure that Jen isn't your teacher or anyone that you have to interact with in regards to the pieces you create.

Best birthday activity! I took the 2 hour class with my husband and I was so enthralled the whole time. I learned so much from Riley, our pottery leader, during the tour of the facility. I learned the different pottery firing methods and clays and kilns and so on. There is so much to the world of pottery and this was a great introduction. Then getting to throw 5 pieces on the wheel was so special and fun. My husband and I both totally dove in and learned quickly and made some awesome pieces. Riley was very attentive and great at providing the support and guidance we needed and so pleasant to have as a leader. And before I forget to mention, I think the experience is priceless and Firestick offers this class at such a deal of a price. I think I found my new birthday tradition :) absolutely love this place and can't wait to come back. Might start the monthly membership...I think I caught the clay bug :)

Lovely people and at $15 a piece it’s a great price to get something you want in your home. If you’re okay with getting a little dirty and working with what you get out of the clay, then this is a fun, fast 2 hours.

We had a great time taking the 2-hour class which was $55/ person. $15 per item you want them to glaze and fire for you, and $22 shipping if you cannot come pick up. If I lived closer I would come back for sure!

Fun date night activity whether you're a local (in which case you have a 2-day experience of making your pottery and then returning to glaze them) or visiting from far away (our case!) Call directly to schedule to avoid additional fees. They were very accommodating. Make sure you start on time - another couple was late and missed the tour. On the tour we were able to see some of the amazing and distinct pottery pieces made by members of the collective. Very impressive. There were 2 instructors for our course. Since many of us were new to pottery, everyone in the group could have used more guidance throughout the evening. The addition of another instructor would have been very helpful for completing more pieces. That said, this is an experience. Enjoy the time you have! Get to know your fellow attendees and instructors. Get dirty. Laugh! Maybe have your own Ghost moment on your date! At the end of the session you can barter some of your items for the pottery studio to sell. I parted ways with some pieces and was able to get a discount on our class! Since we were for out of state, at the end of the session we were instructed to select 1 glaze that would be used for all of our pieces. A few weeks later they were shipped to us with no breaks! Everyone was so nice and helpful. If I lived nearby I'd be coming as often as possible. Highly recommend.
