My husband and I stumbled on this amazing little shop about 2 years ago when we were on vacation. Last week, we went to Occidental on another vacation and came by to visit our new favorite shop. To our surprise, they were closed the day we were there -- but it didn't even phase my husband. He decided we had to come back the next day when they were open because his vacation wasn't going to be complete until he got to visit his favorite shop. And boy.. I'm glad he decided to come back! Not only did we load up with a bounty of amazing t-shirts, stickers, and whatnot... the super amazing woman who works there actually remembered us from two years ago! I wish we had shops like this where I live. Every single item is so unique and fun. We had more fun shopping at Hinterland Empire than anywhere else on our entire trip. See you soon, Hinterland friends!

if you haven't bought an article of clothing from these women, you don't know what you're missing. they have the most deliciously warm and cozy stuff. i love their sweats so much i wear at least one every day (now i have three such magical unicorn fur items). not exaggerating. i almost don't want to admit how much i've got. plus the designs are unique and often offensively blunt (yaaaaaassssssssssss). not for the faint-hearted, and there's nothing wrong with that. i love the non-clothing items they carry, too. prints, patches, and stickers, amongst a myriad of offerings from other local artists and artisans. there's also the extra added bonus that the owners are two of the most bad-a** people i've had the pleasure of meeting. i absolutely love hinterland. worth the trip when i can, and definitely getting my continued support via online purchases.

Shops like these are the gems you are looking for. Not just another shop where you can buy the same stuff you can find everywhere else. Run by locals that produce their own unique goods and also showcase other unique talent. I really like their art - it has a proud, do-the-right-thing feel to it that is the opposite of 'bland'.

I will absolutely point people here, no matter if just on an afternoon trip or on a long vacation. A great part of defining what West Sonoma county is.

Take a road trip and aim for Hinterland. Hands down the best clothing, art, gifts and jewelry to be found in a 100 miles radius are all here. Don't go if you like the mass produced, China made, over priced stuff everyone else has.
