At first I was happy to get a good rate at a convenient spot, so close to the BART and everything. Now, my situation is that my license is expired by a few months, and I've been unable to renew it because the DMV has been closed for a long time now due to COVID 19. Every other hotel I've had to stay at has been totally cool and understanding about this. I have plenty of cards and everything to identify myself. We show up to check in and I give Anthony my cards and he says, "do you have a valid ID?" "Well, no I don't because the DMV's been closed for months but I have other stuff in my name to help further prove who I am.." "Unless its a valid and current ID, don't bother." I call customer service in front of him, they say to show him the expired ID to which he says, "Maybe you're better off somewhere else. There are plenty of affordable hotels in town or across the bay bridge in Oakland

I stayed at the Imperial Inn this past weekend for one night. It was comfortable, spacious, and decently clean. The owners were kind and understanding; this alone made a much better experience compared to when I stayed at The Broadway Motel, which is located nearby, a few months ago.

This place is horrible. Please do not stay here. Bad area, bad vibes, horrible service. Our car got broken into on their own parking lot and when we asked the owner/manager for help they didn't want to do anything about it. Apparently the security cameras do not work (how convenient). Decided we did not want to stay there and asked for a refund but they made it super complicated. Of course we didn't want to stay there after getting broken into plus all of our belongings got stolen. Not sure how this business is still open. I'd rate 0 stars if I could. The worst experience I have ever had.

Pros: great location and friendly staffCons: our room was not probably cleaned when we checked in. Room furniture was old and dated. Rooms don't have much insulation. We could hear the upstairs guests walking around. For ~$350/night we expected a much nicer place!

I stayed for one night and wasn't expecting too much. Although a little old, the rooms were clean and well furnished. Also the owner, Suzy, is the best host ever and she is very accommodating to her guests! Would definitely recommend

This place looked clean, simple but basic. We did not have a problem until I went to the bathroom and there was stands of hair in the tub. Then we look at the bedding and see that their is a burnt spot on the sheets. Hair (not from) mine in the bed and the pillowcases that has several spots on them. I called down to front desk and the guy tells me that he will send housekeeping to the room tomorrow morning at 10am. Not sure what was going to do since I was only spending one night. The front person was not helpful and I was disappointed that he didn't bring new sheets. Never again, poor service.

Terrible stay. Room stank like cigarettes, BO and gas station air fresheners. Questionable stains on the sheets. The light in the bathroom was out, staff never brought me the replacement lamp the two days I stayed there despite asking each day. The door didn't lock properly and the atmosphere is sketchy AT BEST. -1/10

When I checked in, I requested an upgrade to a double because we had an extra person, I requested to not have the upgrade charged or the entire weekend in the room charged on my card as the funds were insufficient. I provided a different card for the upgrade and advised them that the other party was paying for the entire stay on another card. The next day, I woke up covered in bites of some sort, when I complained to management, they were immediately overly defensive and confrontational, then tried to spin it that I was dirty and the bites were my fault. After that uncomfortable interaction, they decided to go ahead and charge my card anyway creating $364 in overdraft fees two days before I was even checking out. When I asked if they could reverse that charge and apply it to the correct card, I was met with more hostility and refusal. Their entire attitude is to blame the consumer and accept zero responsibility for their questionable business practices.

Looks like they upgraded a little since I stayed here 4 years ago. It's a nice place for $110 a night IMO. The beds are comfy. It's clean. There's a mini-fridge, hairdryer, and even an iron and ironing board. The staff is super nice as well. The only real drawback is that it's not super close to the action, but that's certainly not the fault of the II. It's super convenient if you're going to the Burger Boogaloo, but word has it that this was the last year for that festival.

Took zero responsibility for over 100$ worth of belongings thrown out by cleaning staff. It took hours to speak to the manager and days to find out they'd do nothing. They said they checked the security cameras and didn't see anyone who shouldn't be there- which proves it was the cleaning crew. My room was made up as if they thought I had checked out- I believe they incorrectly assumed I was not returning and threw out my clothes, food, and marijuana. I went to Oakland on a business trip and the Director of Operations at my job attempted to contact the managers of the inn- nobody ever returned her calls. They outed themselves by saying nobody suspicious was seen going into the room- and nothing was taken until I removed the "do not disturb" sign. I barricaded my door every night and carried everything with me after that. I resent their delayed, unprofessional and sketchy establishment. Do not go there.

Not in the best area and no elevator for our 3rd floor rooms. It was mostly clean but night table had something on it that looked to be dried liquid of some sort. No lobby or anything extra in terms of amenity so it's just a place to sleep and get out. Probably would not stay here again and would rather pay a little bit more for somewhere nicer.

Worse freakin place ever don't even bother at this placeThe morning of our 1st day stay the front desk lady walked in our room without notice while my family was still in bed sleeping for one that's so unprofessional and rude Then we where left with no water since 11am called and they kept saying 30 mins it will be up and running 250pm still no freaking water. Our whole day plan ruined because of no water to shower or anything. I'm beyond livid with this hotel waste of money.

Very clean rooms (ours over looked the central courtyard and water feature) , and nice ambiance in a good location for eating, shopping and leisure. Small side note: this business will suck money from you where they can. Ie: they charge for the ice machine, which is the strangest thing considering MANY other places of higher quality as well as lower quality do NOT (not a big deal because it didn't even work and they tell you to go to the store for ice.) The first night we got two rooms as friends were coming into town.the first room was a king bed for three ,the second was the two queen option. The key didn't work for the room of course and my very ill mum had to walk down two flights of stairs at 3 in the morning because they wouldn't let her company go and get a new key from the office because his name wasn't on the room, which makes sense but is still very unnecessary. Which was weird because they offered him a key to the room when he came earlier in the day. The younger gentleman in the office maybe he is the manager? Resolved everything for her no problem. But if we want to get down to why I took to yelp over this business is customer care. Let's just say customer service at the imperial is anything but imperial when it comes to the owner and his attitude towards paying customers. The older gentleman that runs the place is horribly terribly rude, and inconsiderate. I am a cigarette smoker and deserve to enjoy my cigarette regardless of how anyone feels about it, It is my right. I try not to smoke where common areas are out of respect so I smoke on the sidewalk and throw the butts in the trash. The second night I went downstairs to the front sidewalk to enjoy my cigarette with my sister. And the man was in a car with his companion. The older man watched us from the car parked out in front of the office. He proceeded to wait until we were Done and checking out the (limited) vending machine (which btw they should really add juices to the drink one) to then exit the car along with his golf clubs and aggressively interrogate while his friend aggressively voiced his opinions in their native language. which is understandable due to the area. But still took us by surprise. But once we explained we were actually renting from him he did not let his guard down. I tried to clarify to him that we did not want to cause problems only there to relax and enjoy the weekend he responded with (actual quote) " you cannot give me problems, only I can cause problems for you here!" I pointed out that he was being very unprofessional and was unnecessarily upset He then called my sister and I anti queer slurs. I honestly don't want to make this the highlight but I have a hunch he was upset over the fact that my sister and I are transgendered. At this point I walked off because I was not going to allow this man to belittle me and ruin my night. Plus he looked pretty foolish if that's how he wants to represent his own business. My sister stayed and tried to disarm him and asked about his golf clubs even. I came back to He then took out his phone and pretended to call the police which was super immature and random following us and again cursing us calling us "mother-f*ckers." (Again he was supposedly on the phone with the police) We went to our room and didn't hear anything from him for the rest of the night. We left early and checked out of there this morning and checked out of there for life!!!!. Again I would recommend this place for the rooms but if you need to talk to staff, avoid the older gent with the glasses. The young handsome one (his son?) is very efficient and sweet. And house keepers are nice also. Maybe we caught the man on a bad night but then again he was cold the day we checked in.Thank you to all Imperial staff not involved in aforementioned story
