Very low frills hotel with exceedingly helpful, pleasant, and down to earth staff. Basic continental breakfast with yogurt, coffee, tea, wrapped pastries and a few other items. The room was small with the sink in the room instead of the bathroom. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Everything was clean. We mainly stayed to have an inexpensive and convenient place to stay after a concert at the arena. It was a very safe and quick walk from BART a little before midnight.

Make sure to check your reservations and make sure it's for the dates you are staying and the staff very helpful and friendly. It's a safe place to stay, and there is night security/staff there to help you out. The lobby is very chill and comfortable as well.Rooms: The rooms clean.Nearby activities: Walking distance to Fox Theater.Safety: The door closes after hours, but there is staff/security there very safe.Walkability: There are coffee ☕️ shops and several restaurants and a meat delli in walking distance of the area.Food & drinks: I was told by staff that there's continental breakfast but didn't try because I woke up late.

This place was cool a long time ago. It's now dirty, worn out, dark and dingy. The AC didn't work, drapes were all torn, windows didn't shut, paint dirty, stains on the wall, the bed and pillows were hard and worn out. It has good bones, but needs an overhaul top to bottom. I travel a lot and this ranks in one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. However, the staff is great.

DO NOT STAY HERE! We lasted less than two hours. The desk clerk was no help when we asked about eating places. The bar tender couldn't bother to even take our order for burger and fries (she was too busy gossiping with people who there for a comedy night show). The phone did not work at all. The TV was set on hispanic channels. There was a bad odor and something spilled on the carpet in front of the TV. The desk clerk actually walked out the front door, went down the block and never returned before we walked out. The only positive I can say is that the bathroom was clean but there were several broken floor tiles. The taxi driver who brought us there said that daytime was safe but do not go outside of the hotel at night. We had to ask for a coffee maker in our room and we were the only guests there. This is not a good place to stay.

Good room but the step down in those rooms is dangerous.

Very quiet and looks very victorian. Love the look, but the rooms smell like cigarette and the carpet looks dirty. Downside is, no hotel parking, but parking structure across the street. Plenty of parking there but you pay about $50.

I can't get over why this place was so mean to me. They had me playing piano while the staff insulted me. I received endless compliments from the guests. The staff offered everyone a drink but me. I was a paying guest there for over a month. They kicked me out on the fourth of July. I kept that place safe! When a guy trashed it before I left, I told him to clean it up, and he did. They brought q cop to my door to check my eyes, and I never use illegal drugs or drink. The cop pushed my door against me, and I didn't do anything illegal! The maids refused to clean my room, and I got warts all over my feet. Why would they be so abusive to someone who chased off multiple carjackers and thieves? They said they kicked me out for accusing a staff member of stealing my phone. I never accused a staff member of that, but someone did. I filed a police report, and they returned it. They tried to throw me out stranded with nothing, no phone even. I never partied; they were the ones partying all the time! My focus is purely helping the hotel and community.

I picked this place because I was interested in staying in a historic building with old fashion charm. Unfortunately it just seems like it’s been neglected for a few decades. And not in a charming way. The worst thing was a mildew smell in my room, which I could also smell throughout the second floor corridor. I usually would not be so critical of an old hotel, and would expect things to be less comfortable than a modern one, but the smell was so bad it kept me up. I do struggle to place the blame wholly on the hotel, as most of downtown Oakland seems to be in a similar condition, par for the course with many post-pandemic metro areas. I’m sure it’s hard to find the clientele, money and motivation to do upkeep when downtown areas are becoming tourist destinations of yesterday. Evidence of this can be seen in the almost sad hotel lobby which brought to mind images of music, drinking and laughter from the roaring 20’s, only to exist now in a state of disuse. Bar glasses put away, dust gathering on counters, and liquor shelves being used for storage.

This place is just plain gross. My bathroom floor was moldy, the sheets and towels had holes, everything was stained, scuffed, or looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year. It was a good location but other than that I can’t say too much more positive.

5 star motel, 3 star hotel :/Kept having issues with the internet dropping out, which is my biggest complaint. My friend and I picked the placed because it sparked joy, it looked very cozy in the pictures and it was nice and quaint, but I don't feel like I got what I paid for.

This place has sooo much potential for events. I only come here for comedy shows and have never stayed in the rooms. From an events perspective, the bar and food offering is pretty minimal but the service is good. I only get the 1 drink and 1 food option that I like. The chicken strips are actually nuggets but are tender and delicious. They aren't overly greasy or salty. Very good with ranch and fries. My partner doesn't like their fish option so he usually only gets fries with his martini. They do make his traditional martini well though. The bartenders are really fun and really nice. We also were here when a random karaoke night popped up. It was dead so we made the most of it. It is conveniently located and has a good amount of space so it could be a great spot for nightlife. Wish it offered more, but we come here often for a chill night out.
