Not the most pleasant. Walked in and the only employee, an older fellx in a cowboy hat, just stared at me and so I asked if he worked at the store and he said yes. I asked him for arch support and dude didn't know where to direct me. Size selection and shoe selection limited. This is Piedmont so I don't expect a standing ovation when I walk in, but the place was DESOLATE. So I'm confused about the quality of customer service as well as the limited shoe selection/ insight about the selection.

Buyers beware: they do not accept unworn returns!Pics of the boots I purchased showing the bottoms unscuffed and clearly not worn aside from trying them on again in my house on the carpeting. They claimed they weren't sellable because they were "creased" , which I hadnt noticed when purchasing, but I pointed out 5 other pairs on their floor that also were creased, and that on my boots the right one was clearly the worse one that was on the floor vs the left being the one she pulled from the box. The older woman who sold these to me talked me into them for a discount even though they were a size too big, and now I know why!! Total BS.Although I also got a jacket and beanie I really liked here, I would absolutely not reccomend shopping here because of the awful customer service and being swindled out of $100.

100% independent woman owned business. Great shoes and great socks! They have a huge selection of the coolest socks and scarves. Plus great Oakland pride shirts.

I would definitely recommend this shop for all who want to learn about the right shoe for them and for expert advice. If you're already clear on what you want and how much space you need in your shopping experience, just politely let them know! Communication is more key than ever since we can't see any more than eyes and masks these days.

Have loved this store for a long time for their good taste in interesting feminine comfortable clothes. Clothes that can work in the office, after the office and some even good for biking to work. The shoe selection is ok. But now I guess they are suffering for cash because a third of the store where the funky clothes used to be is now cell phone accessories and Oakland themed t shirts :(. I hope they are able to stay in business and hopefully return more groovy feminine comfy float clothes.

They really have a great selection of clothes shoes and accessories I would have been very disappointed to terminate my patronage with them over a simply remedied situation. Thank you Ullah. I have had a vacillating experience with A Step Forward. It went from great to horrible and dismissive until Ullah stepped forward and saved the day! I really appreciated her taking care of the situation and refunding me. I did have some odd moments with some of the other staff but in the end it was made right.

Cool, good quality, eclectic clothes, accessories, and shoes. Great customer service and prices. Would give them 5 stars except for the fact that there is not much variety in their merchandise.
