My stylist is IDO aka Amy. She is great with my hair care by making sure that my long hair is trimmed at the proper time, conditioned, and looking beautiful at every visit. I love that she has early morning hours and there is no wait. She is excellent in her field and you can’t go wrong by selecting her to care for your hair.

First, I am VERY selective in who I choose to care for my hair. I've been going to Idowu for nearly 18 years, and her attention to hair care (healthy hair!!) is what attracted me most and why I will not allow anyone else touch my hair, seriously. Idowu keeps her knowledge and skills up-to-date, so if I desire the latest new hairstyle, she can do it...though generally, the most adventurous I'll get is a blow-out/flat iron...silky smooth! I believe what's also telling about a seasoned stylist are the compliments one receives while going about business as usual. I love when strangers approach me stating/inquiring "Your hair is so healthy" "What do you use?" "Who does your hair?" The answer is consistently: IDOWU at True Essence Multi Ethnic Salon in El Cerrito Plaza. Idowu is a hair magician (not exaggerating), has a loyal client base (when you see new faces leave her shop as you wait your turn - sure, that's a good sign. However, when you see the same faces leaving or coming - to me, that's an even better sign!); Idowu has a long history/ EXPERIENCE in the industry, is warm and welcoming, actually listens to you (and likely the hair nightmare you had prior to finding/being referred to her...insert facepalm emoji), but most importantly, she delivers! Idowu is simply the best at her craft, and wherever she goes, so will I! Trust me, Idowu will not disappoint and you would be doing yourself a HUGE disservice to not make an appointment. Oh, and please feel free to personally thank me later, because I'm confident you will return (which means we'll probably run into each other at some point). No direct service on the phone or on the website. Prices are unclear and do not reflect special requests you want. Calling the store you get directed to use the website. Then you have to sign up JUST to look at their prices. Like $60 to shampoo but NOT dry your hair. Dont bother with the janky web chat either. For a new shop in the area its NOT ok to pass potential needs clients to the website for pricing and questions. Not good customer service.

If you're looking around for someone who has experience, does great work, and cares about her clients, look no further! Nobody leaves Jem Studio until they're 100% satisfied. Patricia puts 110% into EVERYTHING that she does. She is kind and passionate and frankly, if you're looking for a good deal but STILL want amazing results, THIS is the place for you! Additionally, I don't know anyone more talented and passionate in makeup than Patricia. She knows all of the makeup trends yet, can do a simple classy makeup look as well. Book her to do your wedding makeup ASAP! Parking is easy and the area is well lit and extremely clean. Idowu is a true hair magician! I came in with a couple of pictures and chatted with her about the general direction I wanted to go in and she totally intuited what my hair needed. My hair is super thick and long and I've had more than a few color mishaps with my hair over the years, too ashy, too brassy, too streaky you name it, after my balayage session all I had was admiration for Idowu's beautiful work. She mixed me up a custom blend of color for my shadow root and then balayaged and toned my hair to perfection. If you're looking for a stylist that will listen to your needs and truly deliver on them, look no further than TEME salon! Can not recommend enough!
