On my way home I became concerned about my tires on my truck. Saw this place had good reviews for female pres. folks and went to ask for a safety inspection. Middle of the day, and even though they were busy, the techs very kindly did an inspection for me with no appointment so I could be informed of the things that needed repair and be on my way. They did not try to upsell me on anything or push services. Very honest, respectful, and knowledgeable. Hard to find a mechanic that listens and they were very patient and took into account what I knew about the truck already. They even helped me safely back out of the shop because it is on a busy street. Definitely recommend.

These guys were amazing! Had a water pump fail on my way to drop off our daughter at Cal…landed on Sunday night without a clue! Called these guys on Monday morning and they had it ready, including tracking down a back ordered hose, by my daughter’s dorm check in time of 11 on Tuesday morning!Such good people and talented too!?

This review is much delayed - - we went to Stauder for years. The 3 brothers always took great care of our cars. They would take the time to explain the issues to me, and present the repair options. They would let ME decide, and I never felt over-sold. As a woman, this wasn't always my experience. I was so sad to see them go, but this tradition of honest work has been maintained by Sheaff's service manager, Val, and the lead mechanic, John.

Stauder's has been sold to Sheaff's. Same location and some of the same mechanics. Still recommended.

Although I did not end up getting my car repaired here, I am leaving a review because of the fantastic customer service I received. From the get go Val was extremely invested in making sure I got my car taken care of in the best manner. Without ever meeting her I had no doubt she was very sincere. Had the car taken elsewhere because the work was a bit more involved, but will be coming here in the future for maintenance needs. I even called Val to update her on what happened with my car and with good news regarding the repairs to which she was very excited, which I really appreciated :)

The owner of Stauder retired, and the garage has reverted back to its original name Sheaffs (circa 1952). I think most, if not all, of the same people are there. And same friendly service.

Yelp reports Stauder's has "closed permanently." I was just there Thursday and it was most definitely open for business as usual, as it has been for decades.

Excellent customer service. Trustworthy and reliable. No delays in getting work done on time ( I've had many disappointing experiences regarding delays elsewhere). Close walk from Rockridge Bart. Actual cost was less than estimate (when does that happen?) since one repair was not needed. I live in Walnut Creek and I will be taking my car to Stauder Auto for everything!

I took my car in to have an inspection for a coolant leak. I also asked them to change my brake lights which were burnt out. They were able to do all the work in a couple of hours and were very upfront and straightforward with the work needed. They did an excellent job, and did not try to nickel-and-dime me whatsoever. (In fact, they threw in a free bulb for a light in my back window I didn't even know existed.) All of the work was completed without issue. It's difficult to find trustworthy shops but they left a very positive impression.

I've been having serious battery problems in my relatively young car. Subaru Dealership in Oakland told me it's normal for a modern car battery to go dead after two days of sitting unused, which struck me a serious design flaw. I got frustrated with the dealer and came to Stauder as my mom's gone there for decades. Stauder diagnosed it as the car overcharging the battery and said that I was still under warranty, so should take it to a different dealership. He said I shouldn't pay them money for something that was still covered elsewhere. Now THAT is how you create a return customer!

My family has been taking cars of all types to Stauder Automotive for repairs and maintenance for almost 40 years. They always do a good job and seem equally familiar with modern American and Japanese cars. And as an added bonus, if you have an older car or classic they can work on those too. When dealing with us, they've always been straightforward about whether repairs need to be done immediately or can wait. If you're looking for a reliable, trustworthy mechanic in Oakland, I would highly recommend Stauder Automotive.

Want to share my experience -- had an odd bumping/shimmy of the car on the way home, and felt scary enough to stop and have it checked out. Google recommended Stauder as the nearest place. This is 3pm on a Monday afternoon. The people at Stauder were amazing, taking the car for a quick test drive in the shop and then putting it up on a rack to take a look. Turns out the shop that had done previous service had not tightened the nuts on the front tire sufficiently and we had lost 3 out of 5nuts -- I can't imagine if we had lost more. HOWEVER, Stauder redistributed the nuts on all four tires to ensure we could drive the car safely, and did not charge us anything for the work. I am very grateful to Stauder Automotive for this and would heartily recommend them to anyone in the area.
