I've been attending SCC for almost 6 years now, and have been so blessed to call it home. When I moved to the Bay Area, I visited multiple churches to find where God was calling me to stay. I knew this was the place after my first visit. I was welcomed by loving people from all walks of life with open arms. This church is a beautiful mosaic of different cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds where no one person feels less important than the other. I'm so glad I found a real community of believers, who I can turn to for anything, as we pursue our calling together. SCC is rooted in scripture, powerful worship and the belief in Christ as our savior.

Sequoyah is a fantastic community. From my first visit there, I knew that this was a community I wanted to be part of. It felt like people genuinely cared for each other, not just on a superficial level. My first impressions have been proven right since I consistently started attending. Leaders are Spirit-led and teach based on the Bible. There's something here for everyone and I truly love that it's a diverse community with the common goal of loving God and loving people.

Sequoyah was the first church I attended when I moved to Oakland; seventeen years later and I'm still here! This is a church where you can find authentic relationships, passionate worship, and some good preaching! I have gained some lifelong friends and this community has become family! I appreciate their passion for authentic worship, good preaching, and intention to serve and give back to Oakland and the world.

This church and it's people brought me back to our heavenly Father. The helped me purge my demons and leave it all at our father's feet. The prayers I recieved uplifted me. Restored me. I will always be grateful to Sequoia Church and it's lovely people. It's a special place and will always be for me. Love & light!Blessings

I visited Sequoyah early around 2018 while I was still in high school & was immediately embraced with open arms upon coming. Soon after I knew this would be my home church.Fast forward about four years, I’m a year from graduating the internship at SCC & have the privilege to serve as a youth leader here. My life has been impacted by Sequoyah and the community that has supported, encouraged and truly walked through such pivotal seasons of my life. But most importantly, the faith that’s so evident here has pushed me to go after my relationship with God more than ever.If you’re looking for a place of community, celebration, diversity, faith and healing—- I’ve found this to be the place.

I found Sequoyah in 2017 and I am so grateful I did. At the time I was very wounded from previous church hurt, so I was just looking for a safe place to land and people I could trust. I have found exactly that here at SCC. I've gained so much family here. They welcomed me with open arms. I've found healing here and so much more. Pastor David and the staff truly have hearts after God and a genuine desire to see God move. 10/10 highly recommend trying this church out!

I absolutely love this community. From the first time I stepped through the doors, I felt at home. The people are warm and welcoming and the teaching and worship draws me closer to the heart of God. The diversity of our community is truly a reflection of heaven and I love how we celebrate and honor different cultures. I still feel at home 12 years later and am so appreciative of how much I’ve grown in my faith and as a person being a part of this community.

I stumbled upon Sequoyah back in January 2015. Being new to the Bay Area, I spent the prior couple months church hopping. Not knowing what to expect, I arrived with a skeptical hopefulness and an open mind.Almost eight years later, and my faith is stronger than it's ever been. Sequoyah showed me a different way to experience church. It has the ability to skillfully weave together thoughtful cultural engagement, the word of God, and the power of Holy Spirit.Hard to accomplish in this day and age, but alas, the Lord's work is not done—as evidenced here.

I've been attending SCC for the past 4 years and it's my new church home in the Bay Area. I commute from SF every weekend because it's worth it! The services are powerful, the speaking is thoroughly researched and well presented, and the people are warm and friendly. I love how actively involved SCC is in community outreach and helping local organizations in Oakland. You can tell the staff really care and I love taking part.

This is truly Oakland's best kept secret, as far as churches are concerned! It's family oriented, and passionate about serving our community. I started going after my previous church imploded, for lack of a better word, and Sequoyah took me in and loved on me in some of my lowest moments. They were a family to me when the church family I'd known rejected me. It was a wild time for me, but SCC really loved me back to life. It's super diverse, in age and race. The worship is super passionate, and sensitive to the moving of the Holy Spirit. The senior pastor is down to earth, and a great leader. I really love this place! I currently am in ministry school in Redding, and SCC helped me get there! That being said, even though I am away, this is my home church, and it has my heart! I LOVE SEQUOYAH!

There's a reason half the church left. Very clique-y and judgemental, and overall petty. Feels more like I'm surrounded by teenage girls and not grown adults.

Talk about authenticity! Sequoyah is truly community. Dynamic music with a live band was so good. The people are so friendly and the message was relevant, practical, and inspiring. I also LOVE the multi-cultural and multi-generational feel. It is truly a representation Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area.

I first saw Sequoyah Community Church (SCC) driving by on 580 and it has been our church home now for several years. The people at this church welcomed us from the first day we came. I love many things about SCC, but especially the passion for God's presence, a hunger to know Him better and genuine love for the body of Christ. It is truly a multi-ethnic, multi-generational, Spirit-filled church. SCC focuses on PEARL: Prayer, Evangelism, the Arts, Relationships, and Leadership through a Bible-based foundation. The worship is Spirit-led, energetic and deep. The teaching is relevant and mostly topical. There are a variety of small groups meeting throughout the week. One of the key points of groups is to help you take your next practical steps growing in your faith. My faith has grown from coming to SCC and it has truly been a blessing to be part of this community. If you want a place to call a spiritual home, and people to call friends or family, this is your place!

I rarely write reviews, but I believe this is worth sharing!! I have been attending Sequoyah Community Church (SCC) since September 2018. Long story short, I was raised in a San Francisco catholic church, not meaning much other than going to church on Sunday's----I knew all along that something was missing, but I couldn't point out what it was. Like many, I left the church trying to fill a void and began living a life apart from God. Several years, and kids later, I found SCC, through a friend. Initially, I attended church by myself because I had little interest in taking part, or involving my children in any form of structured religion. But God moves through that church, and I don't mean the building, but God's church-- God knows there are some spiritual Giants there who seek for God's wisdom!! I went to many churches with the willingness to set the heart of my family in any church where we would "fit in", but we got more than that at SCC-- WE GOT CLOSER TO GOD AND HAVE FELT HIS PRESENCE, and for me in particular, the fact that my kids continue to receive love at SCC, is monumental!! I thank God for the people HE uses in that church, and my g'ness the worship team (some sweetly gifted voices), and most importantly scripture led teachings. I will never forget the second time that my dad joined me to church, he said, "you feel the love in here". Like I said earlier, I thank God for SCC, and encourage anyone who is seeking for a church, to join me along with every other member of the church in letting God do what HE does best--revealing HIS word while putting things together! Be Blessed!
