Usually a fast grocery run for essentials. Nothing too fancy about this Safeway. It is small. Picked up 2 sandwiches last time. Not great...slow staff and no one seemed too happy to be there. Sandwiches didn't look like any of the pictures... that for sure!

It's an old stuffed to the brim store, so it's an unpleasant shopping experience even in the best of scenarios. We have so few shopping choices in Oakland, there's no incentive to do better but this store is still the worst in Oakland.... with the rat trap right outside the front door, only one set of doors unlocked during business hours (seams like a fire or safety violation), mediocre customer service & cashiers, & to top off this latest visit, that prompted this review to be written today.... turns out my Safeway card didn't register. Do not recommend

I bought a google play card gift card with an order that happened to be a scam who pretended to be my boss and I wanted to return even before I left the store at Pleasanton but they refused return of purchase. This is so fishy that makes them look like they are working with the scammers

Terrible customer service here. I was in line waiting for the customer before me to finish up packing her stuff and put in her cart while my items were finished scanning by the clerk (Susan, according to the receipt.) Since my items are already done scanning by the clerk, I put my credit card in the machine which probably made the customer before me unhappy (she might think I was rushing her.) The clerk then said to the previous customer "I know, everybody is in a rush." I didn't realize they were upset about me trying to pay before she left. I just kept hearing the clerk saying I know, I know loudly to the previous customer but in fact was being sarcastic to me. After my transaction went through, as I was waiting for my receipt, the clerk stared straight at me with her big eyes and no smile for a good 5 second as if I did something so bad that I should be penalized. I gave her an awkward smile as I didn't even realize the situation until I left. For a big chain like Safeway, it's hard to imagine they would put this kind of people as first line workers that face customers everyday. Definitely feels like there is zero customer service training. Will never visit this store again.

Friendly staff and more personal than other supermarkets in area. Reasonably priced. Plenty of parking on the roof garage.

Just moved back to the area and can confirm the reports that this store has gone downhill. Staff are rude and selection is limited.

Found some vegetarian frozen meal options that I couldn't find at the other local grocery store. Good selection of produce.

Lived in Montclair for over a decade. This Safeway used to be great, however the quality of this Safeway has tanked starting some years back. The employees are often rude as can be, stand around talking usually, putting their jobs second (slowing down efficiency), and today some cashier named Erica copped the biggest attitude I’ve ever seen out of no where because I asked if they could split my payment method so I could get rid of some cash on hand first. She looked at me as if she’s never heard of doing that before and adamantly refused saying stores can’t do that while continuously laughing it off to other employees and gossiping.Moral of the story, all stores CAN and do split payments into cash/card payment, and this store truly unfortunately needs an almost full restaffing.

This is for the DriveUp & Go service. I’ve used it 3 times (today being the 3rd time), and it’s been an awful experience each time. This will be my last time. The point of Drive & Go is to save myself time and from going into the store, for various reasons (need to get home for caretaking, COVID safety), and every time I’ve had to wait 15-20 minutes and I have to go into the store to get someone. Their phone also doesn’t work. Truly disappointing.

I've had some unsavory experiences at the Safeway closest to my house (Grand Ave), so I go out of my way to visit this location. Although it's a smaller store, it has everything I need and always has great deals. If you have trouble finding something, ask one of their super helpful staff. I really appreciate the kind and accommodating people who work there. I've noticed their employee, Aaron, going above and beyond. It is truly heart warming to see someone go out of their way to help an older customer out to their car.

Moved to the area two years ago, I repeatedly tell myself when shopping here, you must remember never to shop here again. The issue is the clerks. They are rude and at times I wonder what type of drugs they are on, making weird "hyena" noises, avoiding eye contact with customers so they can not ask for help. One lady was sitting at the register with her light off indicating she is not open, I took the courage to ask, and she replied, yea I'm open! What the heck! I feel like they play with their customers . Also, the African American clerks are talkative and nice to African American folks, white people do not get treated the same here. This is why I'm taking my business elsewhere.

UPDATE: I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE REACHED BY THE DIRECTOR...I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM ANYONE REPRESENTING SAFEWAY YET. SAFEWAY JUST ISNT SAFE ANYMORE!SAFEWAY EMPLOYEES HARRASSING LOCAL CUSTOMERS.My wife went to the store only to get harassed by a Safeway employee that was very persistent and would not leave her alone, even bought her flowers told the other employee to put it on his tab.My wife is not going there anymore, neither will I. I will take my business to a more professional grocery store.
