When Pharmaca closed, I was reluctant to transfer my prescriptions to a large pharmacy dreading the impersonal experience. I was pleasantly surprised to find the staff helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Having monthly refills on auto refill and text messages provide seamless delivery.I highly recommend this pharmacy.

I got a RSV vaccine and was overcharged by my insurance company because they had not added this medication to their formulary properly. I went back to the pharmacy a week later and they were able to rerun the claim to the insurance company and refund the money I originally had pay. Thank you Tenzen for your great service.

It's hard to leave the building if you're not buying groceries. You must either 1.) wait in a checkout line, 2.) rudely elbow past the line, or 3.) trip the emergency exit alarm.

It's *really* difficult to find a pharmacy in the Bay--as it I think it frequently is in most urban cities/high pop. areas--where you receive kind, patient pharmacists/pharmacy techs who are helpful and understanding... In fact, the only other big pharm chain where I've found the staff pretty consistently kind, and appropriately helpful, is Costco. But this particular Safeway is a GEM. I've been really pleased with them the vast majority of the time I've been going there, and I've been a patient there for well over five years now. They are open on Sundays, a huge plus. And they are one of only two pharmacies (the other being, once again, Costco) that has been able to fairly consistently keep in stock a particular Rx that has been experiencing nationwide shortages for quite some time now. As such, they've absolutely been lifesaver for me, personally. Thanks guys, you work hard every day of the week to serve your customers/patients, and it shows.

Joseph and his staff are make up by the far some of the most incompetent pharmacy employees I have ever encountered. From not being able to manage a line of people, not ordering medication when they say they will, surviving understaffed with 0 interest in bettering their employees or their community. I strongly urge everyone to spend their time finding a local community pharmacy so we as a people can move away from big pharmacies and those who keep them running like dear Joseph who can hardly keep up his work day. I hope they enjoy spending most of their lives studying to spend all day inside of a grocery store staring at off brand tampons & diapers. Best of luck!

Good to see that they upgraded their security and got rid of the child problems outside and the mess they made, need more undercover security to keep the store secure and surrounding areas

Walked in on a Sunday to get flu shot. The pharmacist was completely overwhelmed, and the place was a disaster. After waiting for 20 minutes for two customers, he looked at me like I was crazy for asking for the vaccine. This location is consistently understaffed. I would avoid it if you are in a hurry or have any other option.

The website says walk-in covid vaccines are available and then the pharmacist tells us to go home and make a reservation. It was 9:30 AM. The pharmacy was empty.

Based on my experience today, I am convinced that this pharmacy staff has your back. Here's what happened: I went to pickup a prescription today and when the fellow rang it up he said "$140??? That can't be right!" So (without any prodding from me) he commenced with researching how to bring the price down. I didn't say a thing but was hugely grateful he took it upon himself to find a better price. He researched my (horrific) Rx insurance, then tried "GoodRx", and still the price was sky high. After conferring with the pharmacists on staff (there were 2), they found a workaround so I ended up paying only $4.50, for a total savings of $135 for the same medication. [Full Disclosure : the pharmacists determined if they filled the rx as a capsule antibiotic as opposed to a tablet antibiotic, the price dropped considerably. But they explained to me it is exactly the same medicine, just in a different format - capsule vs tablet) As a senior, I want to give this Safeway Pharmacy 5-stars for going above and beyond for the customer. Well done, team Safeway Pharmacy, College Ave, Oakland! You guys are amazing! Thanks especially to the fellow who rung up my order and started the process for saving me some bank. AND to the pharmacists on staff this evening, who gave the time to sort it all out. Very grateful. Renewed love for safeway

The pharmacist at the College Ave. store changes my doctor's prescription then delete the original. This is not an insurance company interfering; I pay full price cash for my medications. When challenged, she nearly shouts at me. She thinks she is entitled to practice medicine and overrule my doctor.
