I avoided leaving reviews on yelp all of my adult life. Shopping color coded is great for clothes, NOT BOOKS! A bibliophiles worst night mare!!!!! And it's sad because you have a very large book selection! More people would probably buy from y'all if they were categorized by genre, like every other collection of books. AND you dont have a public restroom. 0/10

I've been donating at the Oakland location for years but the last time (and I do mean "last" time) I was there, the employee went through my stuff as if it were a consignment store - accepting and rejecting things based on I don't know what, since I only donate things in good condition. Out of the Closet is a great charity, so I didn't want to give up on it. I've since been going to the Berkeley location which has been a much better experience.

They no longer have fitting rooms to try on clothes and do not offer exchanges or returns. This is a ridiculous policy for a used clothing store. I want to support local businesses that purportedly do good work in the community but this policy does not serve or respect it's customers.

I work in HIV and I am pleased about this agency/retailer meeting and giving back to the community in a practical tangible way. The color-coordination and organization is extremely pleasing to the eye, making it much more easy to shop. Items are great quality, it’s clean, and spacious. My kids like thrifting so this is a great choice.

My first time here from out of state, thought I’d see what the thrift scene is like out hereI found 2 jackets and when I went to pay the cashier looked at me with a nasty attitude and then looked at the tags on the jackets and claimed they had the wrong tags on them and the price for them wasn’t correct so she made up some prices on the spot and wasn’t trying to hear me out that I found them that way. I ended up leaving with just one jacket priced $20 higher than what the tag said because it was chilly out but I couldn’t help but feel taken advantage ofThis was my first time in and never even heard of this store till this visitNot sure if I’ll return to this location again in the futureIt’s not my fault your employees couldn’t tag an item properly and I shouldn’t have to pay for their mistakesAbove all they had a semi-decent selection of clothes, prices were whatever some higher than what you’d find for the same item online but I guess that’s how they do things out here

Decent selection, but they don’t have a fitting room, everything is final sale… and the prices are too high to justify buying without trying ?♀️ big ‘ol bummer

Sadly their prices are too high! I would be fine if they were true to their mission or reasons but I came in to buy a table that has a few scratches here and there. Would not tell me the price because they're closing early due to painting the store. Called today and asked about the price $125 was what the person told me but my fault for not asking for their name I guess. Came in today price is $175 would not negotiate at all lol. Would you pay $175 for this? I don't think it would have hurt anyone if I took it for $125 and some might say that is too high of a price for a used small table.

Not what I was expecting! I figured it was going to be just another high priced thrift store in the city. But, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the prices were AMAZING, and the clothing was in AMAZING condition. Clean and well organized. I found a pair of Levi shorts (maybe worn twice) and my boyfriend and I each found a pair of pants for 30$! Love every piece we found! Will definitely be going back. Shout out to the girl working, Ellen, she was so helpful and just super cool. They even offer an excellent rewards program. Thank you Out of the Closet, for everything that you do for our community.!!

I bought some shorts here and couldn't try them on in the store (no dressing rooms). Ok since I still had the tag on. I asked to do an exchange or refund and was told no. They said I need to try them on over my clothes. For running/gym shorts?! There's no way to try them on over my clothes. I guess I'll just dispute it with my credit card and stop coming here.

Fun, cute experience at this thrift store. There was a variety of designer clothes and lesser known brands. Prices were still around $20-30, so they were not as cheap as I'd like, but they had good quality items. We managed to find a good Swiss brand coat for my husband, which was a decent price. I found a long sleeve blouse for myself as well for $9 I was happy with our finds.

Stopped by with my teenaged daughter to find "the dress" for a party. Found something we thought may work but discovered there are no dressing rooms and all sales final. Whaaaat?!! Seems unfair and nonsensical. Who would spend 15 dollars on a dress that may not fit and can't be refunded? Not I. Too bad really since seems they have some good stuff...

I love this thrift store! It's one of my favorites in Oakland (maybe tied with the Salvation Army in the area). The selection is great

I called and spoke to someone to let them know I had school/office supplies and books for donation. They gave me a different phone # to call and arrange pickup time & place. The number they gave me was to America's hottest talk line to meet hot ladies and interesting + exciting guys. I'm going to continue looking for an org who will accept these items but I'll keep the 877# they gave me, you know... just in case :P Your loss Out of the Closet!
