I enjoy Nathan & Co when shopping for a last-minute gift, but I was disappointed at their customer service during my last experience. During the holidays, I bought a bunch of gifts for my in-laws in New York, and it turned out that some of the items were expired! When I brought the item back, the cashier did not offer an apology until I expressed the embarrassment of gifting an expired thing. The lack of accountability and nonchalant-ness is unfortunate when I've spent so much money at that store.I went around and checked out some of their other perishable items and noticed that they, too, were expired. Nathan & Co, step your game up and get better employees that actually care about being there enough to check inventory & provide decent customer service.

It is really unfortunate to have to write this review about the Piedmont Ave store, as Nathan & Co is one of your favorite places to shop. Today at around 3:45 my sister and I came to the store, which was completely empty. We walked in and no one spoke to us- a young Asian girl looked at us and continued texting on her phone though she was sitting in front of the register. There was a young white women sitting behind her also in her phone- she didn't even look up. When I said hello to the young Asian girl, she said "What?!" I said -" we just said hello since no one acknowledged us" She rolled her eyes and continued to type on her phone. We felt unwelcome and uncomfortable and left- also confused by the aggressive and unfriendly behavior. Unfortunately, my mother sister and I have always received this kind of reception at this location. It's unfortunate to receive this kind of treatment, especially given, for years to have spent a lot of money there to support local business. (We had actually just come from the college location after buying over 100 dollars worth of jewelry... ).My mother has met Nathan and we know he would not approve of this, so we thought that it was important to shed light on the fact that this has been the documented experience of several Black women at the Piedmont Ave location.

Wow, saw a pair of earrings ( small hoops) they cost $64 in store, on the designer's website $49. Ridiculous. I get mark up but that's just ripping people off. Glad I checked, I'll be giving my $49 to the designer!

They have a LOT of gift options, and you can order completely online for delivery or pick up. I did pick up, and they call you when it's ready. You go up to the door and ask the person sitting there for your order, and then you are done! This is a typical gift store, ie cute stuff, but none the less STUFF. They are unique and do have useful gifts, but just wanted to warn y'all that would rather give useful things and not just cutesy "idk what to get you" gifts.

Clean and dirty drinking? Is this possible? Yes, I learned, after flipping through a mocktail/cocktail book here and buying it for a gal-pal who throws some enchanting shindigs where dirty nicknames were once awarded with mock shock, mine landing on the chopping block, to go 'longside my fruity 'rita, on the rocks. I stumbled onto this stylish, feminist, educational, saucy shop, oh so glacé, of gifts and wares for nearly every room in the home, after my dinner at Belotti Bottega on the same street. The owner/buyer has my tastes in mind, it appears. There seems to be an emphasis on kitchen accoutrements here. I bought some wheet-wheeyoo! whiskey glasses here. Chemistry molecules? A few: C5H4O2, furfural, for almond, caramel taste, particularly in single malts. C10H8O4, scopoletin, for a sweet smell that comes from oak barrels. C8H16O2, ethyl hexanoate, for apple, anise, fennel aroma. Begone, C2H4O, acetaldehyde, responsible for hangovers and a granny smith apple flavor. Dang, I wish that I had not sold my 3-D organic chemistry molecule kit decades ago. I will use these as juice and water glasses, predominantly. Thanks, genes. :-/ I morphed into that tiresome she-beast who shops 'til she drops and her husband or other companion keels over with open wallet wounds. Quickly, I was doomed; I was forced to curtail my buying. I even left behind, in my hotel room, 8-yr-old kinda gaudy pajamas and a tight ratty workout tee, too worn out for Goodwill donations, to make more room in my bags for the goods I bought here. The children and baby section is decently stocked with fun books, puzzles, toys, and clothing. Humor mixed with seriousness. The young woman working here was very service-oriented, and she handled herself with composure and politeness when the store was getting crowded with folks lining up to buy multiple items, like me. This lady wrapped a few of my gifts most expertly, not the way I would. It was free. Be warned that it can take several long minutes for your purchases to be rung up and ready. It's worth it, to me. Now, if the store fills up, it can get harder to move around. You may well know this is the norm for shops in Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco. For faster, usually solo shoppers like me, that does not pose a major annoyance. I found that the prices here are on par, and in many instances, a little less expensive, than comparable shops across the nation. Shop online at Easy FIVE stars!! Nathan & Company, let's make plans for when I'm in Oakland next year.

Great gift shop with many creative and funny gifts.Of course it comes at a premium price but if you are in hurry and like some souvenirs for your guests, definitely must try place! They also gift wrap it for you with attention. For my Indian family I was specifically looking for California or USA (in general) souvenirs and not Berkeley or Oakland, so I really felt they didn’t have a lot of options ?I wish they bring in more CA stuff ??

This delightful shop has the most beautiful, delicate textiles, jewelry, and kitchen wares. Everywhere I looked was something special: a Moroccan-style wool pouf here, a set of bamboo salad spoons there. With local cookbooks and unique ceramics dotting the shelves, this is a go-to spot for creating a sustainable home and garden. (And it's awesome retail therapy.)

Nathan & Co. is my one stop shop for bdays, holidays, and treat yo'(my)self days. There is literally a gift for every occassion. The staff is really friendly and helpful when making recos. I always ask whether earrings are gold plated or gold bc i have ears that turn green and they're never annoyed looking up the brands to make sure. The only downside is that you can definitely end up walking out with way more than you went in for bc whoever their buyer is knows what's up and the place is full of all the things you never knew you wanted/needed. I love this place!
