Great Place! I teach a class here (I am employed somewhere else). I see how the staff of Lao interact with client and their daily activities. I am always amazed at how much work they get done. Not only are they hard working but they greet and talk to everyone like you are the most special person. The folks who work here . . . they care!! They care a lot.I have seen them help people with taxes, distribute food, job search assistance, internships, English and math classes. They do everything. They have very high expectation of themselves and work hard to meet the needs of the community.

Unfortunate to say my experience was frustrating and a waste of my time. No current info on any websites and via DOL hotline so i had to go down to office.Lady at front desk was reluctant to help besides telling me to “come back Monday” which is insulting to target demographic they serve because staff was “busy” due to not answering her reception call. With the flyer and business card she gave me i contacted a case manager’s mobile directly THEN someone came down to talk to me about services they offer which i was told didnt really serve me cause i was competent already. If i took the receptionist’s word for it i would of wasted more time coming back on Monday. Its even more ironic now cause a month later they are hosting a critical response faire for my exact situation. I hate to say it but thanks for nothing. I literally left crying and laughing hysterically from the frustration from this organization and others that purportedly serve the community

I really appreciate this place because the workers go out of their way to make you feel comfortable while they help you with whatever you need to get done. To me it's the best non profit organization I have ever been to. I will always be grateful for everything they did for me. My case worker Catrina Hayes Xena Torres and Yeni are the best workers I have ever seen working at a non profit organization. Although I don't live in the East Bay anymore I still keep in touch with them and always will. That's all I can say about this place. CAROLYN CHAVEZ.???? ..

I teach free ESOL classes ( Basic English) for people in the community through Merritt College. I love Lao Family. It is a gem in Oakland and it has so many services that help people in need. I am honored to be a part of it.

This place is more of a joke than anything, they offered services June 2021 and I still haven't heard back as of September 2021 regarding what THEY OFFERED, from managers to regular employees it's unprofessional but the two stars represent what they did handle. 20% out of 100. God bless people and stay up.
