Such a wonderful program. You can see the difference in the people that it helps.

A Christian rescue mission, homeless shelter and charity organization that transforms the lives of sinners, including former robbers and drug dealers through rigorous Bible education, cooking responsibilities, house-keeping responsibilities, and referrals for job training to outside organizations such as People Ready and Episcopal Community Services. One gentleman I met named Antonio is in a cooking program through Episcopal Community Services. There is a lack of accountability, and a serious need to reinforce Biblical values with the foul language and lack of seriousness in glorifying Jesus with words and conduct.Regardless, I am very thankful for the resources and opportunities City Team Oakland has given for broken people like me to turn away from my sinful ways and keep in step with the spirit.

My order was finished fast and accurate. Great, tasty food. For the individual try the small 10" pizza unless you like leftovers. With domino's it's just as good the next day in the microwave.

This is a wonderful place, that if you are asking for help with addiction, and are will to admit you are powerless and your life has become unmanageable, this is the place to get you back on track. You have to take the first step literally up these first set of stairs. Ask for Gabriel

After my first review things improved. I think there was a lack of understanding and frustration on my part. Plus covid shut downs made everything that much harder to accomplish. I think they do a good job offering a safe place for women and children who are in immediate need. They also have a men's house that serves meals to the community daily (or did, pre-covid I heard it's lunchbox style now). They have a treasure chest of resources and if it wasn't for my time there I don't think I'd be where I am today. I appreciate their patience and generosity with me while I adjusted to accepting life on life's terms. The only negative was having to wake up for Bible study at a ridiculous hour (I've never been a morning person) and then be forced to exercise daily (also not one to exercise. I only run when bears chase me. And there ain't no bears in Oakland. Eh, who am I kidding, I wouldn't run if bears chased me either, I'd accept my fate. See? Acceptance. )

Hello all!The 722 Washington St location is only a temporary housing and services location, so what I am about to explain to you will give you a better perception of the organization as a whole. I came in intending to be an intern at the Turning Point Oakland sight which is a transitional housing sight for women; there is also one for men too. At the time of acceptance, I did not need any help or housing for my internship. Closer to the scheduled date of starting, I found myself in a small crisis. I reported this to the program manager the day she gave me a tour of the facility, and she-without any further questioning- recommended that I become a resident. Unfortunately for me, her boss (the Oakland program director) came to the same decision. The thing they failed to tell me twice -once this time, and another coming up- is that if I had accepted emergency housing through their program, that I would be ineligible for any internship in their program! Further more, I was only at this particular house-as a resident- for a few weeks, when they suggested I move to the Youth Collective program in the San Jose area. Their reasons were because I was commuting to San Jose for a job-that I did not end up staying with- and the other reason (hinted) is because I was young. I did move to the program there and further got questioned by staff on whether or not I was intending to be an intern or just a resident. Those who interrogated knew full well that I had been signed as a resident for both programs. Neither had I been read any options for both a compromise in housing and interning while this was going on. At the beginning, I just had the HR Intern Program Supervisor constantly rewriting acceptance letters to accommodate me and my housing situation. At the end, I was told that I was no longer eligible to be an intern. Also, there is so much inappropriate behavior that comes from the interns and staff just at the Turning Point and Youth Collective house, it's not even funny. I have had to report them to HR and their directors for it. Most of the residents at the houses that I've stayed at feel as though they have no voice. When something serious is reported, it eventually gets brushed off or not handled very well. If they do handle it, they're doing it to cover their tracks or to make it look like they're doing their job. Also, at the Turning Point house, they did not let the women or their kids go out claiming that it was a safe house (domestic violence) which a board member of CityTeam Oakland proved otherwise. Even the schedule the residents were made to follow (7am-10pm) was unreasonable. The residents are people not robots need/deserve more freedom and respect. I do have other details that I did leave out. If you like any further information please feel free to contact me, or even comment on this review. By the way, this is detailed for a reason. I feel as though the public and any prospective residents, interns, or staff should know this.Pros:-There was always donated snacks and food from the San Jose location. Free hygiene products.-Your stay is about a year in their transitional living programs. Then, you graduate and are eligible to intern for 3 consecutive 6 month periods.-Internships have a $500 monthly stipend. If you are a live-in intern you get to stay for free on top of this.Cons:-Case Management is not really good. Not very goal oriented or set on making subjects lives more prosperous. The way they case manage keeps these people in the cycle of poverty not gets them out!-Their system of complaint is bad because they only want you to go through interns which are often the problem. Most rules are centered towards residents not staff or interns. They also use Bible verses as excuses not to step in or deal with issues properly.-No ethnic hair products (coconut oil, shea butter, etc) (found in grocery stores).

If you need a hot, free meal this is the place to go. They serve dinner only at 6:30. Make sure you go by 6:45 as they stop serving by 6:50. They also have a shelter for men although it's always at full capacity. The food is really good.

This soup kitchen serves 3 meals a day rain or shine. They dont push religion on you too bad either. This place saves lives every day. Strait up. I can't thank this organization enough for the work they do. A big percentage of the people who come here don't have any other resources. When covid hit the cityteam powered right through it. Mad love to this organization.

So proud we have institutions like this in our neighborhood. These people do great work serving and housing so many each day. Volunteering there is a great way to feel the power of community and reinvigorate your soul, reminding it of the little acts your body can do to help restore the world.
