The Rusty Piston saved our trip to Yosemite. I made a huge mistake just outside of the park when I put regular gasoline into our diesel sprinter van. Don was willing to help us out on short notice when other shops in Oakhurst were not willing to get us back on the road within a few days. Don let us spend the night in our van in their parking lot outside the shop, and he and his staff got us back on the road in the morning. I could not have been more thankful for their help. Very pleasant, down to earth people.Service: General repairs & maintenance

This was an awful experience for my family. Their website isn’t updated and so our car was towed in on a day they weren’t open. If we had known, we would’ve rather towed our car to Fresno. Then they overcharge for the part we needed. We were stuck so we had to pay. They also charge extra if you want to pay with a credit card. And then they had the gull to say we needed all these extra parts. Some of these parts were things that had either been recently replaced (brand new parts) or had problems that were frankly impossible to happen. We were able to confirm this mechanic possibly wasn’t being the most honest when we went to someone else to double check. Don’t go to this place unless you want a mess. Get a second opinion from someone else. Preferably in Fresno.

My car broke down on the way to Yosemite. After being denied by other auto shops in the area, Don at The Rusty Piston in Oakhurst was willing to look at the car to see what was the problem. He quickly diagnosed the issue and repaired it, so that I could drive it back home. I highly recommend The Rusty Piston!Service: Engine repair

Don and The Rusty Pin performed a miracle recently. My sister and I were headed to Yosemite from So Cal and her car died going up an incline. We called several places going down a Google list and everyone said they could look at the car in a couple weeks. They wouldn’t even let us park the car in their lot if we towed it there. Thankfully Don said he would “squeeze us in” and do what he could. He also helped us ensure we had a rental car. The throttle had failed and he had it ready by the time we were heading back home. Thanks Don for coming through for us! ❤️??Service: Transmission repair

Exceptional and Honest Service. We had service codes pop up during our trip to California. They went above and beyond to try to get to the bottom of it for us. They are the best! Highly recommend!

I was jacked up by this shop- the old "tourist in a bind" situation:My car needed an emergency repair while I was vacationing in Oakhurst. I checked the Yelp reviews of repair shops in Oakhurst and The Rusty Piston is top rated. So, we took it there for diagnosis and repair. The car was left in their shop for two full days for the repair they said it needed. The job was a common, straightforward, routine procedure. I just checked with my local dealer and a also another top-rated repair shop here in (expensive) Marin where I live and learned that I was overcharged around 60% ($600+) by this shop in Oakhurst which even charged an extra fee for putting the bill on my credit card, versus check or cash. Furthermore, the car still exhibits much of the very same condition that they "diagnosed" and charged me to "repair". I'm back home now, I'll take it to the dealer and have them finish the job properly.

Love the name and the atmosphere of the place. The guy behind the counter was very professional, kind, thorough , thoughtful. This place was so honest they shortly figured out that the problem I was having wasn't with my truck as I had thought, but with my trailer. With a few simple adjustments they had me on my way. With a minimal charge for there time for checking it all out and confirming. Thank you Rusty Piston. I really appreciated this place and wish it was in my home town!

The staff was friendly and great. The oil change and service was quick and responsive. I haven't been to other shops in Oakhurst so I can't make a comparison, however I would take my car back to the Rusty Piston for the service of my vehicle.

This mechanic shop is great! They always fit me into their schedule and out of the 3 times I have called, they have never said the schedule is booked.

Got into a minor accident passing through Yosemite, and my tow truck driver recommended The Rusty Piston for timely, authentic help. Everyone there was super helpful, kind, and diagnosed my vehicle issues with precision. They provided a very detailed explanation of what was wrong, as well as what I can expect in the future and how to manage it. I made it home safely after the repairs, and they charged a great price for the service. Highly recommend them for vehicle issues, and the personality they carry. Thanks again.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Couldn't leave well enough alone. Came with an urgent issue and though they said they were open, nobody would help us. Had to go across the street where they were more than happy to give us assistance in a friendly and speedy manner. It was that easy. Then, if you tell the rusty piston, hey if you're gonna close, maybe indicate that, they respond with sarcastic childish comments. Just go somewhere else with so many better shops right next door, why deal with that type of owner?

Spent more than 10k dollars with this shop. Tried to have me pick up the truck on multiple occasions saying the work was complete. Each time finding out that the brakes, that I paid them to convert from drum to disc, were faulty. They broke my dash board so now it rattles, and ripped my drivers seat and they refused to cover the damage. Had lights stolen off my truck while at their shop, and their shop manager promised to park the truck inside there shop for the remainder of the time my truck was with them, only to find it sitting right outside in the front of their shop that same evening after talking with them. I questioned the manager as to why I was lied to and was told he forgot. I also learned that the shop owner refuses to buy insurance to cover loss or damage to customers vehicles. They had my truck for a total of 8 months, and I still have faulty brakes. Found out they would constantly put other customers ahead of me even after I had paid them. I finally had to take my truck to a different shop to have my brakes fixed because the rusty piston told me there wasn’t nothing else they could do. Will be filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair as well as pursue legal action against this shop for not completing the work I paid them for and damages my vehicle sustained while at their shop.
