Mike and his crew are the best in the business. Their expertise with classic transmissions and professionalism is top notch. I have a 66 mustang w/a C4 they rebuilt a few years ago thats still running smooth. They've helped me over and over to keep my car and transmission maintained. Fair prices and best value. I highly recommend for any classic car owner looking for best quality transmission service/repair. if you want the best, go with Russ's Transmissions. worth it!

If I could give this shop a ZERO I would. We filed complaints filed with - CA Attorney General -CA BAR -CA BBB - Visa Dispute - Filing small claims suit next. We were VICTIMIZED by faulty repair work of this shop and its owner deceiving us by telling us the repair was warrantied when it wasnt. Our car broke down in the Malibu area while traveling away from home some 150 miles away and was towed to Russ Transmission shop in Northridge, CAThe owner identified himself as "MIKE" but I believe his real name may be MIGUEL VELASCO (the name on the CA business license 1719982) is JUST AS SOME REVIEWS READ, RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, INTIMIDATES customers. He was Disrespectful and attempts to bully. MikeMiguel said he would look at it and after 2 hrs he came to my partner and said "It needs a complete transmission rebuild" and presented us with a poorly hand-written and somewhat illegible invoice for $6,095. We were blown away by this price as 2 other transmission shops in the Northridge area each quoted $3740-$3865 yet Russ Transmission charged us $6,095, which I cannot think that the fact that he knew we did not live in Los Angeles County and were stranded and he took advantage of us. When I asked him "Why are you charging me so much when others in this area are much cheaper" MikeMiguel responded " Look my price is my price, you don't like it I will put your transmission back together, push your car out you pay me $2,000 labor and 15 days storage at $75day for the time it's been here and you have 30 mins to get your car off my lot or I have it towed off to long term storage where you deal with them". We reluctantly agreed to what we felt was OVERPRICING based on other quotes in the area. He told me on the phone "I want cash", I said NO, I don't have that kind of cash, I'm paying you in credit card., he said I want 3 forms of ID", he was RUDE, and attempted to intimidate me. When I arrived to pay I expressed concern of the repair what happens if we have problems with it back home in San Diego, MikeMiguel stated verbally to my partner and myself, "It comes with a 12 month12,000 mile warranty, if any problems you can take it to any WWW.ATRA.COM transmission repair shop and if its transmission related it's covered for free". 1 month later back home the transmission FAILED and had to be towed. We called MikeMiguel to report his FAULTY TRANSMISSION SERVICE and his daughter AMANDA answered and said "Mikes not here, but you can take it to any ATRA member shop and it will be warranty repaired". We had it towed to a local reputable transmission shop and they said "There's metal in the trans fluid, it's completely blown and you need a complete transmission rebuild and the cost is $3,812.58 and we are sorry but we looked up your cars transmission repair warranty in ATRA and it was NEVER REGISTERED BY RUSS TRANSMISSION and you will have to pay us for this service repair. They took us back to their work bench and showed us the broken inner transmission parts. I WAS BEYOND ANGRY, THIS MAN MIKEMIGUEL LIED TO US AND DECEIVED US AS WELL AS PERFORMED A FAULTY REPAIR SERVICE AND WOULD NOT MAKE GOOD ON IT. I called MikeMiguel and notified him and demanded he MAKE THIS RIGHT AND THE ONLY OPTIONS ARE he fully refund my payment, or he pay $3,812.58 to this shop to repair his FAULTY REPAIR SERVICE or he pay to tow our car back to his shop and he repair it (THIS WAS VERY REASONABLE DEMAND) and Mike said "What's the shop name and ph # it's at now, I'LL CALL YOU BACK". As I was standing in that shop the phone rang and it was Mike Miguel calling and spoke with shop owner's wife and she put him on speaker and we all heard him say, "Hi listen, I F***ed UP AND WENT ON VACATION AND FORGOT TO REGISTER THEIR CAR IN THE WARRANTY SYSTEM, WILL YOU DO ME A FAVOR AND FIX THEIR CAR FOR FREE AND I'LL TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUSTOMER WHO BREAKSDOWN IN LA". The shop owner said, "First, don't use vulgarity at me, I

There is no better transmission shop then Russ’s Transmission!!!This is the second time I am using their services. I was slightly out of my warranty by six weeks and over my miles and they honored there previous work. I will never use another transmission business except for Russ’s Transmission.. they are kind, helpful and honest. Also, I would like to note that they put my van to the front of the list of clients on a busy day because it’s a vital work vehicle to make sure I can get back out on the road and service my clients. So appreciated!Sincerely AmyAmys Ark IncGroomingService: Transmission

I am extremely cautious about who and what I write a review on. With that said when I went to russ transmission I met Mike. He is a outspoken amazing man. There is no words to describe the care and passion takes to his craft. He takes care of his customers as if they are his own. I have a 2014 Nissan rogue and these cars are known to have transmission problems. When my car broke down I looked for places and stumbled across russ transmission. Mike took my car for a day and called me back saying he found no problems with it and to pick it up free of charge, he let me know when or if you have any problems to please bring it back and he would happy to work on it. When I got to my car it looked like he vacuumed slightly to get any large pieces of dirt and stuff and came back with the car was topped off which is exactly the same amount of gas I brought it in with. Overall I got a clean bill of health for the car but I know this car will be in the family for years and these transmissions do not last. Mike I look forward to doing business with you again and thank you for being one of the honest mechanics out there!

The transmission went out in my VW Jetta that I just bought last year. I was devastated and didn't know how I was going to pay for it. Not only did Mike give me a break on the price but he did amazing work and communicated the entire time with me. I found out I had a warranty and even though having a warranty is a hassle for the repair shop, Mike took care of everything for me. I got my car back in a couple weeks and it's as good as new. I would recommend Russ' Transmissions to anyone looking for an honest mechanic that knows what he is doing.

Called to get an estimated cost for a potential rebuild. Despite what they advertise on their website, I have never been treated with such disrespect and professional bullying. I personally used to be a mechanic and this guy wanted to argue with me about the issue I was describing. Part of good sales and customer relations is being a good listener. he seemed to think he already knew everything without even looking at the vehicle.

You get what you pay for. If you're looking for an affordable transmission rebuild then go to a cheap mechanic! Mike was courteous and straight to the point no sugar coating here. Not too many mechanics like to work on older cars but they rebuilt my 67 Plymouth Belvedere and it runs great now!! Final price and turn around time was as promised. Another satisfied customer!

Service Received: Toyota Corolla manual transmission clutch kit assembly replacement, rear main seal, rebuilt axles, new rotors/pads, drums/shoes, trans & engine mounts. 1st time customer. I'm happy that I found a specialist shop that I can trust and can recommend to my family and friends. The other 5-star reviews here are accurate.Mike and his team truly went above and beyond to take care of me. I'm starting a new job soon so having my car back fixed and driving better than ever gives me a huge peace-of-mind. I cannot stress more how grateful I am. While I typically do most of the regular maintenance work on my own cars, I've never done my own clutch replacement. I was not ready to take on an ambitious DIY repair right before starting the new job. After researching reputable transmission specialist shops in my area and reading reviews, I ultimately decided to take my car to Russ's Transmission, which is 45 miles from me. From the first point of contact and throughout the diagnosis, Mike was very clear about his process and all the parts that may or not need repair (e.g. flywheel resurfacing, rear main seal), depending on what they find when they start to disassemble. I really appreciate Mike's consideration to the quality of the replacement parts and his feedback on which parts he recommended we stick to OEM original Toyota. This has never been my experience at other shops. Transmission issues are never a good time, but what a difference it makes to go to shop where the person helping you knows this and makes small gestures to show they care. For example: 1) I was missing my 4th front right hubcap - the shop snapped on the 4th one (no charge); 2) My car has a power steering fluid leak, which I hadn't addressed when I dropped if off. I noticed my engine bay came back cleaner and the fluid inlet house was secured with additional hose clamps 3) My front bumper was missing a fog light cover - Mike found the part and installed it (no charge). that meant a lot!My car is older, but I'm trying my best to make it last for at least another 15-20 years, so taking it to a specialist like Russ's was important to me. Positive, positive, positive experience. Mike, office and shop team, thank you!
