The Stone House has become our favorite downtown location for a special dinner or casual drinks and superb bites. We went for Happy Hour this time and marveled at the quality and quantity of yummy large grilled shrimp, white pizza and smashed potatoes in our orders. Service was exceptional, our food arrived promptly and as ordered even though it was a busy Friday night. Of course, their creative cocktails never disappoint. Not only are the bar, lounge and restaurant beautifully styled and appointed, even the bathrooms are gorgeous! Everything at the Stone House is top notch and staff is extremely professional, friendly and helpful. It really feels like a highly rated San Francisco restaurant without the crowds and high prices....right down to the quality Heath plates, cotton napkins and hefty silverware. We also especially enjoyed the background music. It was early in the evening and the music set just the right mood at a perfect volume, something we rarely experience these days. Thank you for being here, Stone House. The locals truly appreciate you and all you share with us.

We had a very nice meal at the Stonehouse on a pleasant Thursday evening. Locals that have been around for a while know how restaurants come and go at this location, this latest incarnation is very nice. Starting from when we entered until we left the service was very attentive, they have a good staff there. I had the scallops, my wife had the duck confit. Both were very nice dishes. And their drinks were excellent. The interior is still nice but from pasts experience it can get quite loud in in there when loaded with patrons. I really hope they use the back patio when it warms up, it was quite pleasant under the previous owners.

This was the best meal we had over our weekend getaway to Nevada City. We had a drink in the bar downstairs while we waited for our table. The decor is spot on gold country. We liked the music playing down there so much we ended up Shazaming a bunch of songs like the Gen X dorks we are. Upstairs Skye was our server. The menu was full of enticing options and we were well on our way to over ordering. But the informed way Skye made recommendations that spoke to our specific questions helped us narrow our choices to the perfect amount of food and balance of flavors. His wine pairings were perfect and reasonably priced. The scallop crudo and Dungeness crab salad were my favorite. We split the fresh, handmade mushroom fettuccine pasta with gulf shrimp and we couldn't stop raving about it. We also had the mole. Skye said he thinks the mole is so good they should sell in on its own. We agreed but I don't think the chicken and plantain preparation did it justice. Still a great way to round out an inspired and palate tickling combination of dishes. We shared the perfectly sized crème brûlée for dessert. We were so pleased we bought the chef a drink to say thanks. Skye was the best! We are hoping to check out his production of RENT! when we visit again this May. That's how great our experience was.

The food was exquisite and I think the best meal in town I would say fresh produce and all healthy like food and the service was very good they were out to get our order of food right away and we didn't wait to long for it to be done and brought to us so I'm giving them a five star cause I would that if your looking for a great service topnatch food and in a mellow environment then stone house is where you want to go they have two bars and restaurant food and pizza as well they also have dance floor, the place is perfect for public events or private events weddings ,and much more they also have a three bedroom apt .above the tavern that they rent out air b and b which is very nice all brand new appliances and just and over all comfy setting full size copper bathtub and standup shower separate from bathtub and the best part is it has a full kitchen as well if you wanting to cook they accommodate very well with a generous supply of dishes ,silver ware, and what nots ,that you need to cook a full size meal if needed but the to say that the food is good is an understatement because they cook every meal to order and the chef is great cook amd the presentation of the food when served was so professional amd very nicely put the choice of food they have is top of the line and I would recommend going there to amyone cause if you want real quality cooked food then stone house is where you should go trust me wheni say it's wonderful amd when your done they have some desserts that are incredible you will love it so dont for get to stop there and eat cause you wont be sorry it was a real treat to eat there and i will definitely be going there more often

The food is amazing. The service was great, and the chef is out of this world. The BEST fried chicken I've ever had. My wife had the sea bass, and it was equally phenomenal. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommend. Reasonably priced too!

The Stone House is a most welcome addition to the restaurant scene in Nevada City which has been flagging during Covid. The inventive menu changes weekly and includes small, share and entre size portions thereby catering to all appetites. Wait staff are super friendly and attentive, ambience is excellent. Food, cocktails and wines are all top quality including innovative appetizers, house made pasta dishes, fresh fish, a luscious deserts. Fine dining in Nevada City is back!

Food was pretty good. I wish they had an option for chicken that wasn't deep fried. Definitely more vegetarian options. Our waiter basically disappeared. He would walk by us multiple times and never took our order. After half an hour I finally had to find him to take our order. He never came back to refill water and that was the last we saw of him. We had to approach another waitress to help.

The kitchen's last call is around 9pm. The chicken sandwich is okay, the bread is really good. They gave me a lot of fries, but they are a bit soft and cold.A decent venue, I can imagine a party downstairs and dining upstairs.

We had a lovely evening dining at the Stone House this week. We started in the Tavern downstairs and had happy hour wine and pizza- really delicious. Bartender was very helpful and attentive- great vibe and atmosphere. Went upstairs to have dinner- all tables were full except one- very warm, relaxed and cozy. Highly recommend the light and fresh crab salad and their pasta with prawns. Everything we've tried has been tasty. We look forward to our next meal at the Stone House.

I had a milestone Birthday celebration at the Stonehouse and it was fabulous! Booked the cavern for an intimate vegetarian dining experience followed by a private dance party in the upstairs bar. I worked with the chef on the food courses based on the options on their main menu and the offerings were exciting & unusual - not your run-of-the-mill veggie options. I also had my main party at the upstairs bar, and they let me transform the space with my own djs , lighting etc .. and name my own specialty cocktails. The fabulous penthouse upstairs served as an excellent place to host my out of town guests. What I loved most was that they were easy to work with and communicative, guided me through the process while also stepping into the background when needed to allow it to feel I could host my own private party.Definitely a memorable experience, in a unique historic building in lovely downtown Nevada City!Vegetarian options: The whipped burrata with beets was fabulous, the micro green salad with charred satsuma & pomegranate was delish - everything was yummy.

I've never had fried chicken so good. My wife had sea bass that was equally fabulous. The ambiance is amazing, the service was great, and the food was out of this world. Chef Garret Dakan was fabulous. Highly recommend, and will definitely be back.

My husband and I came up from Sacramento for their Valentine's Day tasting menu. There is a lot of great things to be said about Stone House. The history and ambiance of this place is really something special. There was an old movie playing on stage which was totally my vibe. It really was the perfect setting for a cute Valentine's Day outing. The 4-course tasting menu was delicious and the staff was completely delightful. But what I am most impressed about is the integrity of its ownership. There was a somewhat significant issue with our dinner and I was so impressed with how the Stone House handled this crazy situation. So what happened? My husband and I are both long-term sober members of a secret coffee club. Sober alcoholics, to be frank. I've been sober for 10 years and my husband for 12. We frequently order mocktails when we go out to eat and this night, we ordered their Rosy Bottom Mocktails. A few sips in, it was apparent to me that there *had* to be alcohol in what they gave me. My throat burned and the room got rosy. Frightened and baffled, we asked our server for new drinks. She took our drinks away and returned with new ones. She assured us that she watched the bartender make the 2nd round and they were *completely non-alcoholic*. Trusting her, I sipped my new drink. There *had* to be gin in this. Feeling insane, I asked for a Coke instead. On our way home, I called the Stone House and got Jonathan, the owner, on the phone. I told him what happened and that as crazy as I sounded, I was sure there was alcohol in our 2 rounds of drinks. My idea, I explained, was that they must have mislabeled their drink mixes because without a doubt and despite what I was being told, there was gin in their mocktail. As I write this new review, it's been two days since Valentine's Day. Ironically, today is my 10th sobriety anniversary. Jonathan just called me back to let me know he researched what had happened and confirmed that I was not crazy - the drink mixes indeed had been mislabeled. We were served alcoholic drinks. To be honest, I wasn't expecting such honesty and I am so grateful for it. I had really felt crazy that night. Not only did Jonathan take responsibility for the restaurant's mistake, he assured me that the restaurant will no longer pre-mix any of their drinks and that all drinks will be made to order to ensure this never happens again. What more can you ask for? Mistakes happen. I am just grateful that I recoiled from the alcohol the moment I realized what was happening, and that it didn't happen to someone whose sobriety may have been on shakier ground. All in all, it was an excellent lesson for me and my husband and even with 10 and 12 years of sobriety, respectively, we realize that we need to be on guard and ask more questions when we are ordering any kind of non-alcoholic drinks from bars. But in regard to the Stone House, I am grateful they handled the situation with total integrity. I am impressed they have changed their policies and retrained their staff. I truly look forward to returning. Thanks for being a part of my sober journey, Stone House. See you again soon.

We had an okay experience. We had a cocktail and two beers. We had the fried chicken and the house made fettuccine with mushrooms and we added prawns. The pasta was nicely made, however really lacked salt and sauce. Not much mushroom flavor. Would have been really good with a little more seasoning and maybe some mushroom stock for flavor...maybe a little cream? Anything really, it was just a really dry pasta, although delicate. The fried chicken was good, only criticism is that the coating didn't stay on the chicken. The arugula would have been nice if it was dressed as well. For dessert we had the apple beignets and they were stodgy and rather flavorless. Would have been nice with an apple compote or something saucy to go with. Service was a bit lacking, he was a little busy, but he also just wasn't a very attentive server. Not bad service; just not great. We probably will be back one day, it were not in a rush.
