A place to buy home gifts. A tad snooty. Not quite my style but a nice addition to Napa's downtown. It's hit or miss for gifts.

Not like most African decor locations. A pleasant surprise of a mostly modern collection.

Mecox, with its odd name, is yet another charming new boutique spot in downtown Napa. It's part of a chain that it's in ritzy locations (New York City, Palm Beach) It's got upscale home goods, like furniture and accessories. The service is friendly&helpful. They often have bowls of free candy to enjoy while browsing their wares. While they emphasize furniture&accessories, it's the books that are underrated. They have an excellent coffee table book/cookbook that highlights California's different regions, from the Central Coast to the Redwoods. They could double as a bookstore since they have a genuinely good selection of books. Despite its weird name, Mecox is a pleasant little place.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. It was after said "free lunch" that I wandered First Street with my dining companion, listening to him blather on about his woes. Could he not see, as soon as I walked into Mecox Napa, that my interest in his stories was waning? I put up a good front but honestly, all I was thinking was "ooh la la, look at all of these gorgeous furnishings". This is the sort of store that I can get lost in, the sort of place from which I'd like to decorate my whole house were money no issue. It's fair to say that I like good design and find pretty much every single thing in this store both beautiful and artful. I grabbed a business card so I could remember the name of the place but also so I could call back about a particular piece I spotted. It was the piece I'd not known I was seeking until I saw it. Happy-dance time. Mecox Napa is one of 8 Mecox stores nationwide. I was unfamiliar with the store but notice that it's other locations are nicely situated, in other rather tony environments (e.g. Southhampton, Palm Beach, NYC). Back and forth via phone and email, the helpful Elizabeth identified the piece I was interested in, answered all of my questions, and placed a multi-day hold on it until I could get in. Today I got in and though it was hard to leave with only the thing I came for, I have a suspicion I'll be a repeat client at Mecox. If you like divine home furnishings displayed with an artful eye get yourself in here. My "free lunch" only wound up costing me an additional $1200. Now I can have my friend over and listen to his woes while I sit in my attractive new chair thinking about what I might get next from Mecox.
