Napa's best kept secret.✨ I (rather selfishly) hesitated on posting this review for very long time because I didn't want a million annoying gym rats to discover this place and ruin the vibe ? If you're dedicated to fitness and hate big, corporate gyms like InShape, this is the place for you! I've moved around a lot and have belonged to 7 gyms throughout 4 states in the past 15 years, so it's safe to say that I know gyms. I'm also a pretty serious weightlifter. So when I first moved to Napa from NJ in 2016, one of the first things I did was join InShape because I thought it was the only option. And for the first time in my life, I actually loathed a gym. I really don't need much. The shiny new equipment quickly and frequently broke down, presumably from overuse. No matter what time I was in the locker room, there were old ladies and children everywhere. The worst part was the total lack of camaraderie over the entire 2 years I was there. That said, I was thrilled to switch to Custom in February 2018. This is the total opposite in all the best ways. It took a bit of getting used to -- there are no locker rooms, so I would often change into my gym clothes before leaving work. I work in hospitality, so the hours (all 24 of them!) finally work with my schedule. The other members are friendly, and there are not hoards of people waiting for a Zumba class lingering around the facilities. There is no candy dish or pizza night and the people who are there, are there to work out (I'm looking at you, Planet Fitness). If you come during staffed hours, you will see that someone is constantly cleaning something, somewhere. And the price is right. This might not be the perfect gym for everyone, but I wouldn't want it any other way.

I do strength and bodybuilding training and used to work out at Custom for 4 nights a week for a year before moving. Best NO-FRILLS gym for bodybuilding and powerlifting in Napa, for the price. Cheapest pricing if you pre-pay for the full year (turns out to $40/month). Pros -4 squat cages -Cheap $10 day passes -Affordable -Friendly staff -Good choice free weights and machines -Bumper plates, dip belts -24 hours -Clean (always see personnel dusting, vacuuming, wiping down with disinfecting wipes) -Quite a few patrons are serious lifters and follow gym etiquette. Mostly male patrons but never had any problems or creeper vibe from them. The few that I had any contact with were were respectful and supportive towards a fellow serious lifter. Never saw anyone take selfies or sit on the equipment playing with their phones (like I've seen at larger commercial gyms). Some of the regulars come to work out in groups of 3 (and use the same equipment for a while), but they would always let me work in. Cons -No locker "room" nor showers, need to change in single person bathroom, although there are lockers -Other patrons leave bathrooms dirty, but personnel does and excellent job of cleaning. I wish other patrons wouldn't be so gross in the bathroom! If you are a serious lifter, come to Custom, it has all the equipment you need. If you are not a serious lifter and looking for fancy-schmancy amenities, I'd recommend elsewhere.

Stopped by for a day pass while the gf was running in the Napa Valley Marathon...Had to get my a** up at 4am to start preparing, and somehow John was there to let me in at 5am on a Sunday when I showed up. Now that's dedication!!! The day pass was very reasonably priced, and for a small fee you'll have access to all the equipment you'll need to start your day off with a great lift. Thanks for the hospitality and clean facility John..

Nice place to workout, convinient hours. I purchased a year prepaid membership ($400), I was told I could cancel anytime as long as I paid a $50 fee. A few months later, I had an emergency and had to move to another state. I asked for a refund on the remaining 9 months remaining, no response. Finally I was told that the owner would not refund me.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE YEARLY PREPAID. Because if you have any type of emergency the owner won't consider your emergency.
