Mediocre place to shop, usually busy and understaffed. There's routinely 1-2 lanes open for checkout, and of course the self checkout. It's almost like they want you to do self checkout, but the problem with that is the line, I've seen a line that goes halfway to the other side of the store that makes me turn around and walk out.

The woman who is usually at self checkout is incredibly rude to every customer. She is always barking "NEXT COME ON" and rushing customers to check out even when it's not busy. sometimes she makes customers go to another register even when there's no line or need to, or she will make a customer go to her register and ring up. she calls for the next customer to come up even if theyare not done putting there groceries or change away! I hate coming here and getting barked at and bossed around by her. I go through self checkout because I want to ring myself up and bag it myself, I shouldn't be made to get rung up by her unless I want to! If youve been to this Safeway I'm sure you know the lady I'm talking about she does this all the time.

The lady in self checkout is on a power trip. She bosses people around and is all around rude to customers and lacks common respect. She herds customers like cattle and my trip was all around unpleasantWorst Safeway in the Bay Area!!!

This place checked my ID for an alcohol purchase. After their "assistant manager" denied my authentic California drivers license I went to Moraga liquors, which sold to me no questions asked. This is a very poorly managed store, with rude employees and undertrained staff. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

Customer service here in Moraga store 969 at the desk is horrible. Customer service from Brenda a blond middle age women I believe that was here name was nonexistent. The worst customer service I have every experienced. No communication skills, she ask a question then talks over you . No eye contact very rude . She walked up to me shouting what do you need ? While she was helping me she shouted to the guy behind me what do you want.. He started explaining and she put her hand in the air telling him to stop wait. Again why do they have someone like this in customer service? Very unprofessional. I'm looking online for the corporate office number. This is my neighborhood store , the cashiers are great and their helpers are friendly. I have never dreamed that I would have to go online to file a complaint.

Hands down the slowest checkout lines (actually, make that line since there's usually only one open) I've ever experienced. Sadly they're the only game in town, so people keep going there. If you're just picking up a few items and can use the self checkout, it's ok I guess. If they can't/won't hire more help, they should consider converting a few more of the abandoned lanes to self checkout.

Absolutely awful store. I'd give 0 stars if possible. This Safeway has been mediocre and poorly managed for a while, but today was ridiculous. Right before my mom and I were about to check out, there was an announcement that the payment systems had failed and they could only take cash. Alright, things happen. They told us to go to a nearby ATM and we could leave our basket by the self checkout to grab once we came back. My mom went back in by herself to find that the items had all been re-shelved. She asked an employee for help and they were very rude. The lady working at the Starbucks stand asked what she needed then snapped when she told her that the items had been removed from the basket. Eventually a helpful customer assisted my mom in finding everything. Please do not give this store your business. It's so poorly run and the people they employ are terrible. The one in Lafayette is much better. I don't know why management here can't get it together.

By far the worst service out of every grocery store in the area. Extremely under staffed and the few workers that are there are extremely rude, the tiniest inconvenience sends them spiraling out of control.

I feel like my 2 stars were generous after reading everyone else complain about the same thing. Here is an obvious suggestion, given staffing crisis: cut opening hours - maybe close at 10pm? Open at 7? Use those staff hours during your busy times of day instead! Open more than one checkout lane! It takes so long to go to different edges of the store to buy what you need - produce, bread, milk? Opposite ends of the store. Next you make it to checkout and have to wait 5-30 minutes. Customers here skew older and chattier, which also adds to the wait time, which is not Safeway's fault. Or is it?

This store is comedy bad! I live here. It's our only grocery store in town. At first it used to concern/piss me off, then I realized there is absolutely nothing to be done here from a customer service perspective. Now it just makes me laugh. When I tell the kids "Let's go to Safeway!" They laugh too and it just makes for a fun time because you never know what fresh hell is going on! This last time I was bullied into using the self check out machine because as usual there is only one actual cashier lane open at 5pm at 20 people clogging up the frozen food aisle waiting for this lane (6 feet distance is not enforced here). I told her I couldn't because my savings cards magnetic strip inactivated. She pulled my cart over to it, punched in some b******* numbers and then disappeared! Guess what? No savings card deducting my total! LOL. Now there is one less self checkout machine too. Definitely go here during prime time shopping hours and try to figure out how to navigate the restocking carts blocking the produce aisle! Oh and one time we opened up a freezer door and the whole front panel fell off almost taking off my daughters foot! if you want to experience the worst Safeway in America, this is it! So it's kind of fun if you go in with that attitude. The order online/pick up is *slightly* better.
