My husband called today as our dog broke a nail . We wanted to switch to a local vet as as Westlake is pretty far . We saw the reviews and were excited to switch care as it is pretty close. The woman answered the phone and laughed at the idea of getting our dog in today and said it be three weeks. She didn’t seem at all she wanted our future business and was quiet condescending . We understand it’s busy and you may not be able to see us but the attitude about it was not ok. I don’t know about the vet as they may be wonderful but we did not have a great first interaction .

Reviewing on behalf of my friend. Their cat was CLEARLY meowing out in pain, constantly hiding, and constantly trying to use his litter box with little to no success. When my friends mother called the vet and told them about what was going on they gave them anti biotics WITHOUT even meeting the animal first! Which apparently is highly unprofessional. The soonest appointment they had was in EIGHT days. After finally getting a second opinion two days later they strongly encouraged my friends mom to go to the vet ASAP. When they got there they stressed how IMPORTANT it was that this cat got there when it did. The cat had, Urethral Obstruction, something that IS deadly when untreated. But because my friends mom trusted the advice of the veterinarian this poor baby almost died and suffered through 3 days of needless pain. He is currently recovering at Conejo Valley Hospital and they have treated my friend and their cat with nothing but kindness. I understand this vet can be very convenient especially if you are lower income but this has clearly come at the cost of quality. Please get a second opinion and do NOT let your vet ignore your concerns or prescribe medication without even meeting the animal first! I hope I’m the only person with such a horrible story, because these past few days have been incredibly stressful when the problem could’ve been solved much much sooner and I can only pray this furry friend makes a quick recovery 3

We have visited a few other vets in LA and the 2 vet hospitals in Moorpark and we were so disappointed with the unnecessary tests and upselling. After visiting Dr Mason, we were so grateful we have finally found a place we can trust. Dr Mason is the best. We have brought our 2 cats and dogs here, we cannot thank her enough. The office staff are also wonderful people. I will always recommend Dr Mason to neighbors and friends. Thank you for your professionalism and kindness.

Thank you Dr Mason for your support as we had to say goodbye to our sweet dog, Ollie. Ollie ate something toxic and went into kidney failure. Dr Mason was available to us even after she had us bring Ollie to emergency. She has sent kind words all of today... as we said goodbye this morning. I hope no one has to go through this, but it helps to have Dr Mason and her kind staff at your side .

So far, so good. I've had dogs all my life and I've been to many vets. I had a great one in Encino some years ago but he suddenly died (hit by a DUI driver) and since then they've been pretty much the same. Competent, but clearly interested in their fee more than you at your pet. This place is very different. Dr. Mason is like a down home country/ranch woman who clearly loves animals, has been around them her whole life and opts for taking a more natural approach. For ex, we're poodle people and with their long, silky ears are prone to ear issues. While most vets will tell you to assiduously clean their ears - can't do it too much - her approach is that it's natural for some bacteria to be in there and unless it's causing discomfort, leave it alone. Initially I was very troubled by what I'd heard was her position against neutering/spaying but when we talked to her and she explained that the circumstances of how your pet is kept (are they around other non-neutered pets, are they on a ranch where their job is to keep out predators, etc.) you may want to reconsider putting your pet (esp females) thru an invasive procedure. And she has discouraged us from unnecessary treatments - our puppy eats socks and I believed there was one in his stomach that he hadn't thrown up, she said not to waste money on an X-ray because he'll throw it up or p*** it out and he wasn't bothered by it. And he in fact barfed it up the next day! She seems direct, practical and knowledgeable. Like I said so far, so good.

A neighbor had given me Dr. Mason's name when I needed to get a relatives elder dog his shots. They were kind enough to come to my car to give the shot so he didnt need to get in and out.Recently i brought our brand new puppy in for an exam and was so impressed with the staff, the vet and their ease with answering questions I had. No upsells. No BS.And an adorable office to boot!

Dr. Mason is simply the best! She is after the best interest of the animals, not anything else. She is loving and caring and to the point, which I appreciate. Lexie, Teddy, Bonnie, Maple, and Bosco are always well taken care of when they're under her care. Thank you, Dr. Mason, for being a wonderful vet and human being!!

A TRUE GEM. Family Mason Animal Clinic is a perfect little TREASURE that we are fortunate enough to have in our community. Dr. Mandy Mason, Isela, Vanessa & Erica are everything I've ever wanted in a Veterinary Staff. After over 16 years in animal rescue work, & countless more years in animal ownership, I can confidently say that I have never once come across a team as thoughtful, caring, considerate, knowledgeable, empathetic, kind & hard-working as those four angel humans are. I've been bringing my animals to Dr. Mason ever since 2019, when I adopted a special-needs kitten who she'd been treating after it had been brought in with severe burns all over the entire back end from a car engine. I figured I would keep going to her until this kitten was healed, & then transfer the kitten over to my usual vet. HA! No. That was the end of all other small animal vets for me. Once I met Dr. Mason & her staff, I never looked back. Now she sees all of my small animals, including my foster dog who was born with a deformed front limb. She is financially conservative; she has never once pushed a treatment or test on me that she didn't believe was truly necessary for the animal, but always gave me the option to do so if I felt compelled to. She has always been honest & straightforward with me. She goes out of her way constantly to check up on my animals after they've had a diagnosis or a treatment has been started. She offers low cost shots for the community. I just cannot say enough good things about her. Her staff is a reflection of her, & mimic the love & care she puts into her practice & the animals in it. Those girls work so incredibly hard & give their all every single day. They are the bones of the clinic! I feel so seen & cared for every time I step in those doors with another one of my animals. I have so much gratitude for them, & know that our community is better off because they are a part of it. And I sleep well knowing that my herd of many animals have someone like Dr. Mason & her team at the heart of their veterinary care.

I drive far to get to this specific clinic but after today I will never come back. I brought my pet to be looked at for a specific condition. Instead, the vet upon seeing my pet with shoes on gets so triggered that she begins speaking in a very condescending tone towards me and my wife. She questions us on why our pet has shoes on in a aggressive tone. We decide to leave and will never come back. I guess respect is not something that is a priority at this clinic.

We have found our new vet! One of our stray cats we adopted (Onyx) became injured after a cat fight. His left front leg became abscessed with infection. We took him in to see Dr. Mason this morning as a drop off. I had sent her pictures of the injury and she was able to tell me what was wrong. We were given the option to leave Onyx there for further evaluation, or start him on antibiotics at home. He wasn't happy being in the carrier, so I chose the latter. Dr. Mason called this afternoon for a follow up. So professional and caring and her staff is top-notch. I highly recommend Family Mason Vet Clinic! Looking forward to bringing our dog and other cat in for check ups!

I had been with Dr Mason for years. I had always recommended her clinic to others and trusted her. When we got our new pup last year, we made a new pup appt without hesitating. I was surprised when I asked about the age to neuter him. I have been in rescue for decades and have seen what happens when you don't spay/neuter animals. I was shocked when she refused to do it or even refer me anywhere. Her response was "you can google that, but I don't believe in it anymore." Then I asked at what age could I take him to a groomer since he was a poodle. Her response was brash and she tersely said, "you are just wasting your money on groomers when you should be doing it yourself!" (no way would you want me near anything with clippers) Weeks later our older dog was ill and we had to take him to VSEC emergency clinic over the weekend. I tearfully called Dr Mason on the Monday, begging her for advice on his bloodwork. I asked if she thought he was getting better or if we should make the decision to euthanize him. Her response shocked me and had me sobbing. She said "You have wasted way more money than I would have spent. I don't believe in euthanasia. You need to go get your dog and bring him home. Sure, he'll just go die under a bush in our backyard, but that is nature's way!" I had the call on speaker phone and my husband heard the whole thing. I was sobbing and we hung up. We could not believe the harsh words and uncaring attitude. We went to see our poor pup and he was truly suffering. There was NO WAY we could EVER have let him continue that way and we HUMANELY let him cross the rainbow bridge. And we found another, more caring Vet in Moorpark to take our pets to. It has taken me months to write this review. I did not want to write one out of anger and hurt. But an honest review to warn others is what YELP is for. Honestly? I think Dr Mason is getting too busy and burnt out. When you stop caring about animals.....it's time to take a break. I do love her staff and for them I will always be grateful for their kindness.
