Staff was friendly however my dog did not benefit from the visit. The medicine did not help. I had to visit my regular vet on Tuesday and I was told that the medicine that was given was not the correct one. I had to purchase different medication. Additionally, they wanted to sedate my dog to clean the wound where my regular vet was able to shave and clean the wound within 10 minutes. Unfortunately I found it to be a money making business and was not there to actually help my dog. I will not be returning.

This folks provided great after hours emergency service for our pet. Staff was very professional and courteous, and sent our doggie home with medications that helped resolve the issue within a 24 hour period. We'd use them again!

They were very communicative, kind and really acted like they cared. They told me what to expect from how long the wait would be, updated me with time frames a long the process, and how they will handle my dogs situations. They were wonderful. I wish their review rating represented my experience. More people need to trust them and try them. I would always go back here. My dog had an urgent situation, not critical but urgent and needed stitches. They were fantastic.

I would give this charnel house and death trap for pets a 0 or -1000 if I could. Our dear cat, StarBlazer or Starber, a 4 year old, neutered, very athletic, male tuxedo cat, was admitted to Blue Pearl on July 2, 2024 at around 11:30 pm. He was normally a patient of VCA in Salinas for check-ups but they were closed at night. Starber was experiencing breathing difficulties; his temperature and blood pressure were normal and he was fully conscious. He was given triage by Blue Pearl in the form of placement in an oxygen cage, IV fluids, and antibiotics - as well as a battery of tests. The vet (who will remain unnamed) met with my wife and I to discuss Starber's condition and recommended chest-tube placement to drain pleural fluid build-up (i.e. pleural effusion) - but without informing us of the details of this surgical procedure or the risks. He clearly stated that he was going to take an "aggressive" approach to treatment - which made us very anxious for Star's safety. At about 2:00 am, we were then taken to see Starber to say good night. When Starber was shown to us, cradled in the nurse's arms, he looked in very good condition, although he was mildly sedated. This prompted me, as the Owner, to consider taking Star out of Blue Pearl (which we didn't know) to be transferred to VCA in Salinas first thing in the morning. The vet sensing this, blurted out: "If you take him out now, he's going to DIE!" This really frightened us, and reluctantly (but with reservations) we deferred to the vet. We then went home. We received a return call from the vet at about 8:40 am on July 3. He said that Starber had come through the chest-tube procedure and was coming around, albeit a little groggy. Approximately, 20 mins, the vet called to say our Star had collapsed and was brain dead. We rushed to Blue Pearl - but it was already too late. Starber died in just 7 hours after we saw him in good condition, but before the chest-tube procedure - which for some unspecified reason was conducted very hastily in the middle of the night, shortly after triage had been completed. In our view, having read the Blue Pearl report of Starber, there were complications in the placement of one of the chest-tubes or catheters - but this is denied by the vet.
We are pursuing what happened. Another vet has suggested that there was an apparent lack of communication between the vet and the client and a lot of "unresolved questions." As a family, we have been severely traumatized by the vet and the events that transpired at Blue Pearl - even now three months later. It has been one of the most horrific experiences for me in my 70 years. My very strong, vehement recommendation to pet owners - if you value your dear animal family members and their lives - never go to Blue Pearl in Del Rey Oaks! We miss our Star so much!
