The bathroom was extremely small with no wash basin. The room did not have a microwave and the hotel lobby couldn’t provide one either. The pool is a gimmick. The only thing that’s nice is the location.

Such a beautiful hotel our rooms were absolutely amazing. The view was absolutely amazing. It was our anniversary. They gave us free champagne. We will definitely be back. What an amazing experience.
Rooms: The rims were super clean and absolutely beautiful in the bed and the pillows were so comfortable

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Monterey Beach Hotel for an evening. The shower was not draining properly, in which I would turn on the water for two minutes before having to turn it off to prevent the shower from overflowing into the bathroom. We contacted the front desk to which they said they would get someone out ASAP. After an hour of not hearing anything, my boyfriend went in person and received the same reaction. After another hour and now 11:30pm, we had to call again for them to tell us no one was going to come out and there is no other room for us to stay. My boyfriend was unable to take a shower during our stay. At check out, I expressed my frustration and the woman said she would investigate. After phone calls going back and forth, the manager offered less than a quarter of what we paid for the room due to our inconvenience. The rooms are supposed to be newly renovated; however, still definitely need some work. As does the customer service.

I made a reservation via AirBnB and as a SuperHost, I was eligible for a $100 credit for any stay .. so I decided to book one night on the beach to get out of the Sacramento heat. My price without the discount was just a few bucks shy of $600, but then I thought well, that's the price of an ocean front room, so I confirmed the booking reading the details of my booking to be sure my expectations were as described. I admit I didn't check the reviews (similar misunderstandings/disappointment) and did not read all the way to the very last line, which did say I could end up with a so-called "garden" view. I would have NEVER booked this room at that rate for anything short of ocean front. Checkin isn't until after 4 p.m. which is VERY late, but to avoid a line at checkin, I got there closer to 5 p.m. I was given keys to a garden view room .. and immediately said, no, I have reservations for an ocean front. They they hit me for both a parking and resort fee - making the room closer to $700 for the night. Really? The staff advised me that they were sold out, and no ocean fronts were available. Due to my booking thru AirBnB - they threw them under the bus .. saying I would have to work things out with Air BnB. I then asked to speak to a manager, and the polite young man said he understood the confusion on my part as he had suggested to the Tides marketing staff to be more transparent with both the photos and description. Literally, my room was on the 4th floor with the entry door facing the highway and interchange. I didn't even bother going in .. I was so upset that I immediately returned my keys to the front desk and made my way home. I sure hope someone doesn't make the same mistake I made by driving five hours just to be very disappointed. I sense that I will need to fight for a refund.

This is such a nice hotel and the location is spot on! The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Dogs are allowed which is a huge bonus. The beds are also super comfy. The views are amazing and there are tons of lounge spots infront of the beach with comfy sofas and chairs with fire pits. You can also have a fire on the beach!

Great location right on the beach you can definitely hear the waves from your room it's nice to be able to go outside and the beach is right there I was there in the middle of the summer time and it was probably about 70° out sunny but beautiful weather for a summer day the beach was not overly crowded and the beach was not dirty just dead seaweed and one dead animal on the beach but other than that completely clean and beautiful constant waves coming in you can see the Aquatic Center from here as well and it's nice looking through the binoculars and seeing the boats in the distance
Rooms: The room was kind of small had two beds in one room and no microwave but it did have a refrigerator
Nearby activities: The Aquatic Center is about 2 mi away and you can see it on the coast from here
Walkability: Right in the front yard is the beach

Love the hotel bar! The remodel looks super nice! The menu has a nice update as well. Best spot in town and locals discount ? Enjoy a drink and snacks, then head down to the firepit!

As some mentioned, the lobby looks great but our “premium ocean view room” on the 3rd floor was terrible! Just look at the pics. Pool was cold and there were flies and sand in the hot tub.

Annoying!! Under construction and they never said anything about it!!! Logistics were terrible!!!And they didn't even care at all. No amenities like they showed. We were very miss led!

Hotel steals money and is currently under massive construction and guest could not utilize any of there amenities! The room we stayed had a BROKEN HEATER AND AC UNIT. When i mentioned it the receptionist just said "okay". They still are charging full price for a very poorly maintained room and property. Not to mention you are unable to access the ocean due to the construction materials being left all over the property. I was also charged an additional fee of 170 on top of the price for no reason at all which they did not talk to me about when I checked out. I called and they could not explain this random charge. I have been staying at this hotel since I was child when I would come to Monterey however that will not be the case moving forward. CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENTS AFTERWARDS

My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights in February 2024. The hotel is under renovation which was not shown or listed anywhere on the website or on Expedia. We purposely booked this hotel for the heated pool and hot tub but unfortunately did not know they were unavailable until we checked in and asked. The hotel map the front desk gave us still advertised that the pool and hot tub were available and open. I recommend that the hotel be honest and mention on their website that the normal amenities are not currently available. They should also mention that to get to the 2nd floor, you must go to the 4th floor using the elevator and walk down two flights of stairs. Can't imagine staying here with someone who needed special mobility access. The restaurant food is ok, 5/10. Very overpriced. The location is great, close to the beach. But also very close to the noisy freeway. The views of the ocean were 10/10. We made the best of our trip and still had a great time in Monterey.

This place has potential to be incredible - the staff is fantastic and the location is ideal.But, alas, while we were there (Feb 2024) the place was swarming with construction crews, and mostly covered in scaffolding. If you want to stay, find out if they have completed the renovations first.

Tried to take my wife for a nice weekend, wasn't told the hotel is under construction and to get to your room its a 10 minute walk with all your luggage up then down then up again. Rooms are renovated poorly and the only friendly people are the ones cleaning.Safety: If there's a fire during construction say a prayer

The hotel is currently being renovated, which was much needed. The current renovations are a fairly large hassle because the main check-in and bar area are closed but the restaurant is open, and of course the construction noise can be loud. However, the new rooms are great and I didn't hear any construction noise while in the rooms. Can't wait until they are completed!

Beware as the hotel is going through major renovations with lots of noise practically at all times one wishes to get some sleep. Access to most things is blocked. No ice machine. No ocean view without some construction stuff blocking it in one way or another. Room are being renovated in order to jack up the prices drastically. If I were you I'd avoid staying there till after July so all the construction is done. What upsets me the most is how they downplay the major construction project and intentionally mention nothing about it on their website! Grrrr!!!!
