I absolutely love the staff at this location. They're humble folks who understand the struggles many of us go through, and they often will take personal time to assist you. Just have any small amount of respect, and you'll see it first hand. There used to be an issue with the internet, but I can see that they have fixed it. Updated my review to 5 stars. The rooms may be minimal in terms of fancy amenities, but they're consistently clean, and I believe they all have microwaves and mini fridges. For anyone booking on a budget, I highly recommend this place. They'll work with you and you'll have your peace and quiet, as promised.

DONT ever stay here room dirty hair on towels in the bathroom the TV didn't work and they didn't care no trush cans in the room beds very uncomfortable by far the worst place I have ever stayed

The management of the hotel is the best in the entire area, I love the management here but I have to update my review because my last review was 10 months ago and gave 5 stars but after tonight I gotta add this, the internet was decent 10 months ago I could play Xbox and watch TV on my phone but this time I came and the wifi was so bad I couldn't even scroll through Facebook or make a simple Google search. That would be okayish if the cable box didn't just stop working randomly in the middle of the night when it was way to late to go to the office and ask for assistance getting it to work again. I like to come here and relax every now and then on my day off so I need these to work or else I don't see a point in coming here. I am homless and I do appreciate the showers available but that's not the only reason I come here, if I just wanted a shower I could get one at the wharf or any local camp grounds. I really love the manager he understands people need help and he helps them out when he can. Please take in consideration my review because after taking a shower there was nothing left to do here, and I feel like more people would leave a good rating if the wifi worked. I would gladly update my review to 5 stars again as well. To anyone reading the review and wondering I do have amazing phone service and I get really good signal but for some reason this location I can't use my phone data at all its blocked out here.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! This is the absolute worst hotel in every way imaginable. I wish I could leave zero stars in every area!! When my wife and I arrived, the room was dusty and dirty, the beds were uncomfortable and sheets were dirty, and to top it all off- there was not even toilet paper in the bathroom! (As basic of an amenity as there could be…) When I walked through the poorly lit and unsafe-feeling parking lot to the front desk to ask for some, I received rude responses and horrible service from the man at the front desk- who appeared horribly inconvenienced by my request for having toilet paper for our room. Loud arguments were occurring in the parking lot in the middle of the night and it is clearly in a bad area of Monterey. We had planned to stay for 3 nights and left after 1 because the room was so horrible and it was such a bad experience. I’ve never been more disgusted with a hotel room, location, and a staff that absolutely doesn’t care about customer experience.

My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights. That was a bold move based on the reviews I've read, but another hotel had canceled my reservation very last minute and this was the only affordable place that had availability. The rooms are dirty, floors will make your feet / socks turn black, it did smell like cigarettes. Even when we left for the day and came back there just a very strong cigarette smell. We had to get over 5 different keys since they all stopped working at some point. The restrooms were a disaster, the towels are extremely small, ripped and really stained, and there was no toilet paper holder. The TV also did not work, and the wifi connection as well was just embarrassing. The only bright side is the man who owns it is super nice, super understanding and super chill... maybe a little too chill. The cleaning lady was super friendly but her cleaning job was bullshit.

This place is really not worth the amount you spend. The pool is closed (they said they couldn't get a permit, I suspect they did this to save money). The wifi is very spotty and often doesn't work, but in the case it does it is extremely slow. There is also no data at this location so you can't use your phone at all. The room is very smelly and feels quite dirty. They did get 2 stars because they tried to make the situation a bit better and refund part of our payment, but I would strongly advise you to pay a bit more and stay somewhere better.

I felt compelled to leave this review. Looking online for a room to rent during Car Week was crazy. Astronomical numbers!!! After reading reviews of this place I had concern, but more importantly I had a budget. I rated this place a four because it's a 2 Star hotel (not a 5) and during a major event in our area I believe I got a deal compared to the prices online for other hotels. Check the pics. Furniture is out dated, but it was clean, basic and safe. More importantly it was affordable when I compared. If you're looking for a 3,4,5 Star hotel, this is not the place for you. The Fairgrounds is a solid 2 Star hotel.

I am going to put everything in points to be CLEAR: 1.- I explained to the "manager-receptionist" that I needed a room at the bottom because my mother could not climb stairs and she did the opposite, giving me the 2nd floor... 2 .- When changing rooms, the door does not work, the handle is all broken and the cards are sometimes recognized and sometimes not, the room was not clean in general EVERYTHING was dirty, even other people's underwear was under the bed, it smelled a lot of chlorine because the "cleaning" lady added a lot of chlorine and half mopped the floor with a SUPER DIRTY mop, and when I finished I took out an air freshener and to "mitigate" the smell of chlorine I added too much of the aroma spray. The facilities are terrible, super horrible, in poor condition and its staff is the same as the place, TERRIBLE! 3.- There is no place for you to hang your clothes, the sink and shower faucets are in poor condition and poorly installed. 4.- Disgusting walls and windows. 5.- The dirty sheets and the blankets are worse because they were even stained with who knows what. 6.- I claimed all this and more with the "manager-receptionist" and he promised me a 25% discount that "supposedly" I would receive by email advising that it was done; but it was all a lie. 7.- The toilet had drained urine and puddles behind and to the side of the bathtub. 8.- There is an atmosphere of insecurity in that place, since the handle of the door and the window are broken and it gives the impression that someone could enter the room to steal. 9.- In the Laundry area it looks like a junkyard and the parking lot has old cars full of things (garbage) and with flat tires. 10.- You meet people who take drugs because it even smells like marijuana and you find syringes outside in the parking lot. 11.- They charge as a 3 or 4 star hotel and it is a pigsty. 12.- I read the comments on different sites, and people tell about the terrible experience they had in that place. 13.- I had to carry all my valuables during my stay for fear that they would be stolen

If I could give this hotel -0 I will, this is the most expensive hotel I’ve stayed at and totally not worth $240. I wouldn't even pay $100 for this place. Rooms were either cleaned with a super strong bleach odor or dirty. Our bathrooms didn’t have a trash can and no toilet paper was provided, only a used empty one. Thankfully we had our own toilet paper. Also the beds were super dirty and the bedding had holes everywhere. This place has no signal and their wifi doesn’t even allow you to connect. Also forgot to mention we were stuck inside and out of our room because the doors would not open and they got stuck! The worst hotel experience ever! Do not stay here!!

Room did appear like it needed cleaning, the towels were lousy the bed didn’t seem to have fitted sheet. I was woken up at 7am with loud talking I was in room 102 close to the office and dogs barking, it never stopped I had to get up since it was not going to do any good. The premise was dirty which was a clue and we paid over $200 dollars for one night. Will never go back.

Don't sleep here. We've been to several hotels and this has probably been the worst. What the website shows to what it really is is a lot different. Super simple and kinda ghetto honestly. I'm very tempted to leave my room right now and just go somewhere else honestly.Adding to the review.. we ended up leaving. We didn't even stay for 20 minutes. The blanket isn't even a blanket it's a sheet which had holes and the bottom of the mattress sheet was dirty and on the mattress itself it had like sprinkles on it (weird) We were not given our money back, sucks but we just couldn't stay there.
