This place is absolutely a must visit when in Monterey. I called ahead to see if they could make a special memory for me and my daughter for her adoption day. The owners, Karen and Will went above and beyond to make it so memorable. They let my little one pick the oysters she wanted and then made sure we were satisfied with the pearls we received. They had multiple settings to choose from and let my daughter have a fashion show of her own. They made us lifelong customers and friends. We look forward to visiting every time we visit Monterey. When you visit their store you will not just be shopping for jewelry you will be making memories because the owners are so personable and kind you feel like you are with family! Had the best experience here! Will was so helpful, kind, and accommodating as I inspected pretty much every necklace in the store trying to find a gift for my mother-in-law. I also ended up picking one of the prettiest pearls I’ve ever seen. Truly a hidden gem of a store in Monterey!

11/10 AMAZING! I cannot say enough good things about this place! I came here with my girlfriend and family for Valentine’s Day to pick out an oyster and get a unique pearl. We looked all over and I believe this is one of the very few places you can still extract a pearl from an oyster, it was an amazing experience. He did not let us leave until we were 100% satisfied and happy. We got 2 amazing pearls, one light pink and another deep blue, almost black. He even let us pick another oyster if the pearl was not exactly perfect, which I really appreciated. Overall, these people are extremely talented artist, amazing jewelers , and even better people! I was truly blown away with just how nice the man was and how he truly cares about his customers! Anytime I’m back in Monterey, I’ll be sure to stop at this shop!

11/10 AMAZING! Much like these other reviews, I had met the owner of the shop and he was just so amazing that I HAD to leave a review. It's awesome that people THIS NICE AND GENUINE are still out there. I cannot say enough good things about this place! This store is a hidden gem of Monterey Bay! I found this place before my trip & couldn't wait to visit. The owner was incredibly helpful, kind, and patient. He let me pick out an oyster and opened it up right there. A beautiful, perfect little pearl came out. He happened to have one more ring band in my size so I had to get it! He set the pearl in 30 minutes & I now have my own custom pearl ring to remember my trip by. The ring is dainty, feminine, and so unique. My sister also got a beautiful pair of earrings and we both are in love with our purchases! Please visit his shop on Cannery Row! We searched Monterey & could not find a jewelry store that compared to this one! Thank you :)

1,000,000/10 recommend this wonderful place. Owned by the most amazing husband and wife. Will and Karen are the most helpful, informative and sweetest pair. Not only do they have the most photographed art, they have such beautiful sculptures, they even have the most beautiful pearls. You can pick your own oyster with a pearl in it. When I was able to choose my own pearl an oyster basically gave me such a positive vibe. He opened it in front of us and it was my favorite color PINK! Hands down the best experience ever. I picked a ring for my pearl and it came out so beautiful. It takes about 30 minutes for him to set it in the ring or necklace you would like. If you wanted it in a locket it is really quick and takes a few minutes. Again the best Valentines Day gift and experience for myself and my boyfriend. Happy Valentines Day!

Wow what can I stay! I had the most amazing experience at Kochiya pearls and gems! My best friend and I went to check it out and loved it. Karen and Will gave the best customer service I've ever experienced! They were so nice, patient and were overall amazing! I will definitely be coming back and recommending others to go!

I had such a wonderful experience today choosing my own oyster/pearls for my ring and necklace for my birthday. They were both a lovely slightly mauve color. Will was very helpful and my husband and I really appreciated his expertise.

Today was a very special day to me, my newborn daughters first visit to Monterey, I wanted to commemorate this occasion by finding her a single pearl on a necklace or charm. I was surprised when I didn't find many reviews of jewelry stores in the area online. I was over heard speaking to another shopkeeper about a pearl and was recommended to Kochiya Pearls in Steinbeck Plaza. I found exactly what I was looking for and more. I was greeted by a gentleman named Will who was extremely knowledgeable about the types of pearls. I ended up picking out a perfect keepsake necklace with a Japanese akoya pearl with some cubic z accents. The best part of the experience were these oysters you can hand select and have shucked opened in front of you with pearls inside of them. Guaranteed!! My wife and I had fun each picking out an oyster. Her oyster was a pink pearl and mine was black. We had them made into a necklace. That we later picked up after lunch. The whole experience was a lot of fun. I had to write a yelp review to let you know to stop by and check out their selection. They also have an art studio with custom sculptures and more. For being in a the touristy part of Monterey they are very reasonably priced. I will be shopping more in the future.
